Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

ye its like night and day compared to my tv which is set to vibrant setting i look at the gamepad thinking why are you not as eye popping and colourful.

I wonder if Nintendo couldn't release a patch so you can select the settings for the gamepad screen.

UPS just delivered my NSMBU bundle, I'm all aboard the hype train.

I just finished Pikmin 3 and it was fantastic. And 3D world will still not let go of me.
Enjoy your new great games :D

So much negativity and misinformation towards Wii U, because of the bad sales it has created bad rep for Wii U. I do hope that in Nov/Dec Nintendo sells a lot of Wii U's. At least in GAF we have seen many new users and people looking into buying one.
But even in GAF I read people writing Wii U will be killed by Nintendo next year, lol, with SSB and MK8 coming of all games. This misinformation is alienating and sad at the same time, this can become a big enemy to overcome for Nintendo.
Even if Wii U continues to under perform it will live at least 3 years, Nintendo has a lot of cash reserves to ride this console.

This is all very sad as I love my Wii U, it is a great device and the games are some of the best games released this year. Yes, it is underpowered, but games still look very good IMO, and the gamepad adds a whole level of immersion or adds a great feature in off tv play. I have had a lot of fun with the console and I just hope that a lot of people get to experience it.

As a launch Wii U owner, I can say that sadly the. negativity is justified. You mention that Mario Kart and Smash are coming out next year (likely not till next FALL), but so what? These releases are all highly predictable, as it's the same set of games for generations of Nintendo systems. Besides Nintendo titles there is next to nothing on the horizon and 3rd support was terrible year 1, and it's only going to get worse once publishers leave the 360 and PS3 behind and stop with the shit Wii U ports. This is a fact. Again, Wii U is a Nintendo gaming system and one shouldn't expect anything else game wise on it. Nintendo also has a bad track record of putting out first party games at a constant rate. Facts only.

I agree with you, but I hate when people just arbitrarily call something a fact.

I'm now part of WiiU GAF! Fedex just dropped off my NSMBU bundle.

Currently installing updates and it's taking a long ass time.

So while I wait, I'm looking into picking up some games for it. I want Super Mario 3D World for sure. As for my second pick I'm having trouble deciding between Monster Hunter or Wind Waker. Maybe ZombiU?

Welcome, 3D World is awesome you'll definitely enjoy it once you get your hands on it. WWHD is good especially if you've never played it before. ZombiU is awesome too a hidden gem, you can download the demo and try that out for now till you get it for yourself. A few others that I have and can recommend are Pikmin 3, Lego city, NFSMWU, Arkham City if you haven't played them yet.

As a launch Wii U owner, I can say that sadly the negativity is not justified.

There were plenty of good games to play within a couple of months, of which some were certainly available at launch (ZombiU, NSMBU, Trine2...). Launch Wii U games scored higher than both PS4/XBO launch games (even with Zombi U being very underrated in reviews), yet when it came down to actually buying the console + games, for certain people, it was never going to be enough. In many cases, the same people that had their PS4/XBO day one... with even less compelling games to play. But that's ok. Gaffers even going out of their way, to dissuade fellow gamers to buy a Wii U, but skip or wait for a price drop. When the pricedrops came, the goalposts moved.

Again, the concept of self-fulfilling prophecies came to fruition. People didn't think there was enough compelling software to buy the system, so they stayed away, hence software didn't sell, hence 3rd parties stayed away. The bias is strong with Nintendo. So now, there is an actual problem. No ZombiU sequel due to bad sales, no new NFS, Rayman going multiplat etc.

Obviously, Nintendo is to blame as well. You can't expect to get the most technically advanced games on a weaker system, you can't expect casuals to eat it up if nobody knows the damn thing exists or what it does. But claiming there were no games, or that the system had some issues early on... the exact same could be said of almost every other console in history.

I still don't think it has come to the point where Target and other retailers 100% give up on the console.

I also wanted to tell you from what you said on the other thread, GAF is exaggerating and you shouldn't worry about buying a new Wii U.

I was just mad. I ordered it a while ago (The 4th) and had it for a few days now (Bought with Christmas money so I aint allowed to open it til the 25th unfortunately :( ). I suppose Nintendo is doing all they can do at this point. New consoles are going to steal it's thunder for a bit until the hype settles down, not even a new 3D Mario can help against that.

After giving it some thought I guess I can't be too mad. I bought this for Nintendo games only so I guess it doesn't really matter if they drop support for it in say 2015 or so. I only want to play 3D World, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Wind Waker, and Zelda U anyways. Maybe a new Metroid if Retro ever gets around to it.

You mention that Mario Kart and Smash are coming out next year (likely not till next FALL), but so what? .

See, this is misinformation. Mario Kart 8 is clearly stated for Spring 2014 in all Nintendo press infos, including investors materials.Fact.

As for Smash we will see, the general manager of Nintendo Europe said in an interview this week that both games are coming in spring.

I've had no interest in buying a Wii U since it was announced but now with wind waker hd and Mario 3d world i'm really tempted to buy one.

I know the gamepad does not have much of a reach but If i were to have the Wii U in my room would i be able to use the gamepad to play games from ?

if i were to buy the wind waker hd pack with Mario 3d world which controller would be best to use for those games ?

DO IT! The gaming world needs Nintendo to survive :)

i want to i really do but i have issue's about the system.

Is the system really that slow to load and navigate ?

Super Mario 3d world is a coop game with four people but can you play all of it on your own and finish it ?

And if i were to get Zelda Skyward sword and other Wii games would they work on the Wii U ?

The gamepad connection either works, or doesn't work. It doesn't do dropped frames or bad framerates, torn frames, artifacts etc due to bad connection. If the connection isn't good enough, you'll just get an error message stating the connection isn't good enough. The connection will go through a brick wall in my house, but not two. It also goed through the (wooden) floor to the room downstairs. With nothing blocking it, i get 10 meters out of if without a problem. Maybe more, but the space where my Wii U is, isn't bigger than that, so i can't tell. It all depends, number of walls, wall thickness, distance etc. Like a Wifi signal, with that difference, that your wifi signal will steadily die down and you can still have enough signal to browse the internet... but like i said, Wii U doesn't work like that. If the connection isn't optimal, it won't work, because Nintendo wants it to be a lagfree 60fps experience (depending on the game obv).

I play games from my bed, downstairs, while the Wii U is upstairs in the living room.

As for which controller to play WW... the gamepad obviously. Can't speak for SM3DW yet.

The OS has been updated a bunch of times and is much faster than it was last year. And while loading a game or app might still be slower than on PS4/XBO, the fact that you can navigate with the touchscreen saves you at least the same amount of time, so overall you won't be losing more time.

You can simply enter the Wii "app" which puts the Wii U into Wii mode, and lets you play Wii games just like you would be playing on the Wii. You can NOT control Wii games with the gamepad or Wii U pro controller, but you CAN use the gamepad as a mini tv screen, and play Wii games on the gamepad screen, provided you use a Wii controller to control the game.

The OS is reasonable fast. The slowness of it is largely exaggerated now. It was painful slow at launch, though. And it is not as snappy as a phone/table UI. But it's fine.

Super Mario 3d World it's a great single player game.

All the Wii games works on Wii U. You enter a Wii mode which is practically a Wii within Wii U.

Edit: also answers for the other questions.

My works goes for at list 10 meters in any direction, except for part of the bedroom when it needs to go through 2 brick walls. I have the Wii U set up on a small long table behind my couch, so it is in open air. That might help

I would say the Gamepad is the best controller to use with both Zelda WW and Mario 3d World. Unless you find it uncomfortable (most people don't but some people do). In that case the Wii U Pro controller is great for both.

I'm a new Wii U owner as well and the navigation/dashboard at this point works pretty good, no complaints here.

Yes you can play and finish the game solo just fine.

Yep again, Wii U has backwards compatibility with Wii games plus they look quite a bit better on the Wii U due to the much better video output/HDMI of the Wii U.

beaten by KingSnake. :P

Yeah, the fact that some stores dont have Wii Us on shelves is really worrying. I'm fine with the Wii U being another Gamecube, basically selling at a slow but steady rate and getting great Nintendo games. But if stores stop selling the consoles Nintendo might even stop developing for it themselves and just abandon it. If that should happen I frankly hope they will just go multiplatform.

Really sad stuff. I love Nintendo and want them to succeed.

WiiU Get!

I had always intended on waiting for Mario Kart, but 3D World and the holiday deals broke me.

First impression: Had a fuckin blast with NSMB U with my brother and sister. The boost mode was a really nice surprise and my sister loved being able to assist us vs struggling to keep up.

Cant wait for 3D World + W101 to get here later this week.

Would be great if we could keep these in the daily Nintendoom threads and leave this alone.

Anyone else still getting server errors when trying to access the eshop (EU region)? Bought the console 24 hours ago and still can't download the digital version of Zelda Wind Waker HD due to constant errors.
Also, is this accurate? http://www.nintendo.co.jp/netinfo/en_GB/index.html

Yes, I get the error too. Probably the servers are hammered by the 3ds NNID migration.

Edit: interesting, I get now a failed download for a system update. A new update coming today for Wii U? Now it's gone.

Skyward Sword requires a Wiimote with Motion Plus and Nunchuck so make sure those have those first.

It's possible to play Wii games entirely on Gamepad but for some reason that is not possible anymore for me, I get an error saying the TV has te be turned on to enter Wii mode.

NSMB U is a great game, haven't tried co-op yet but solo the game is so much fun.

Also now I'm playing Super Mario 3D World but TW101 is definitely the next game I'll play, the love in the OT of the game makes the wait really hard though. Now about 3D World...prepare to me blown away by the magic of EAD Tokyo. <3

I feel total noob by asking this
How to take screenshot in Wii U?

While in the game, whenever you want to make a screenshot press HOME button and open the browser and go to any image upload site and when you tap the browse button there (or upload or whatever is called) you will see on the screen the image from the screen and the image from gamepad and you can choose which one to upload. I recommend abload.de, doesn't compress the image and it's fast.

Basically, when you pause a game by hitting the homebutton, a screenshot is made at that time. You then either go to miiverse and post a message, where you will see the option to include the screenshot. Or you use the browser to go to an upload service (or webmail) where you can upload the screenshot. Just go to abload.de and when you browse for an image, you will be given two images to chose from, namely the tv image or the gamepad image.

Yeah, I'm debating whether to feed my curiosity by downloading the W101 demo or starving myself until I get the full retail game on Friday or so.

Mine is on the truck for delivery! I can't wait for tonight. I plan on starting the update and then hitting the gym/supper. Hopefully its good to go when I get done.

Very cool! Say, I see you mention the gym. If you're into fitness and Wii U I can't recommend Wii Fit U strongly enough. It's an absolute blast and can build up a real sweat.

Most of the guys in the OT recommend to not play the demo and instead dive in the full game so I'm planning to do it that way. :P

If you're also getting Super Mario 3D World (well you should!) make sure to update via the disc, it's much faster that way.

Ah I see, so all I need is to open an image upload site then. Thanks for the answer.

Unless its a mom or pop store, that is 100% not the case. Its more likely increased demand put a strain on the limited stock wholesales had to sell to stores in their markets. If it was actually dropped by any major chain, we sure as fuck would have a thread about it, trust me.

Agreed, I don't know if it means much, but the Mario and Luigi Bundle is at #2 on GameStops best sellers list. During November it kept selling out but when it was in stock it was usually in the top 10. Now since it recently came back in stock at the beginning of December it hasn't sold out yet but it's still high on their best seller's list.

Is written there. :P

I like most abload.de. It's in german, but it's not that difficult to understand.

Abloaden/Abload = upload.
Bilder von der Festplatte hinzufügen = Add images from harddrive
Meine Bilder = my images

Lol I am blind :) Thanks! That might spare you from the savoyyard peace-keeping forces tonight :)
