Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Is it really? I sort of wrote it off because the impressions I got were that it was worse (except for being in HD). I remember hearing it called uninspired, and also that the music wasn't good.

I thought the NSMB games up to this point were dismal. The first one was trash, the Wii one was solid, but generic, and NSMB2 was just plain boring in every regard.

I just played through NSMB U about half a week ago, and yeah. It's on a complete 'nother level. The art style, while still not amazing, is definitely more appealing than prior entries, and the level designs are impeccable. I was really surprised by just how much variety there is to the challenges the game throws your way. Despite being part of the crappy NSMB series, this was one I think can hang with the old-school Mario games in terms of overall quality.

New-series music always sucked. That's nothing new.

The game is the best of the New-series. You heard about it being uninspired from people who proclaim Rayman Oranges/Legends superiority because of its hand drawn art.
Cool, NSMB is always a hit with friends and I always had trouble getting into it because I'm a pixel whore and had trouble going back to standard def. I'll definitely be picking it up some time.

Man, I really hope Nintendo does some repackaging/rebranding of the Wii U so that it survives and keeps getting games. Even if the cases have "Wii 2" packaging and don't do much of anything with the GamePad.

I just got my refurbished Nunchuk and Wiimote from Nintendo. They're fucking like new. Nintendo is awesome.

Gross

Also, Miiverse is sweet, because now I have an outlet to post stuff like this:

While I agree with you to some extent, NSMBU and Luigi U are still great and should be held on to.

I think I'll completely go with this angle lol, thanks guys, I'll pick up 3D World, also loaded up my Gamefly with Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3.

I still need to get a Wii U Pro controller...I think I saw some good reviews for it. I'm not sure if the bundle comes with the charger stand but I want to play Smash Bros and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom off of the Gamepad screen too. I know the controls don't work on the Gamepad but it still seems like a cool idea to play off the screen and with a controller.

I'll probably do a little research with what Wii games I'll need to pick up too. I pretty much ended up selling most of my Wii games and haven't played Wii since I beat Skyward Sword, so I'm completely out of the loop.

I been considering the extended battery. Play-Asia though lists the Japan one at $50 and the EU one at $35. Is there a difference between them? Why are they selling at 2 different prices?

I have a US Wii U. Will either work?

Lego City would be a perfect choice.
I spend dozens of hours in that game just exploring that beautiful world.

A friend of mine really liked Lego Marvel: Super Heroes better. It's essentially Lego City with super heroes so you can fly around and stuff like that. It actually sounds more interesting to me as well, plus it's a newer game =).

The main appeal of Lego City is the great twisted story and the good humour. And does it matches it in terms of content and collectibles?

Ok GAF, I did my part too and got the Wii U bundle and a few games(pic posted after setup.)

I'm downloading the update now and then the Wii transfer tool. I really want to get that done first so I can unplug the Wii and store it. But....

So all my VC games are on an SD card on my Wii. How does this transfer work since I know it uses an SD card for the transfer? I have a spare empty SD card I can use for the transfer if need be, but does the process know to take all my purchases over? I'll follow the instructions and I suppose I will use the empty SD card for the transfer process, but I just worry about this whole thing. Also, I have 700 points on my Wii still unused, should I spend them now, or will they remain after the process?

Halp!

The U will know and identify everything and bring it right over, with the exception of something like Homebrew. It will even recognize VC titles you have that are also on the U VC and then discount them for you accordingly. It may take awhile depending on how much you have on your OG Wii though. Dont worry about it however. I was a little anxious too because I had never done a process like this before for any other game system I've owned. It was totally alien to me. Fortunatley, everything went smoothly!

Im pretty sure your points do remain.

I think it is better to use the empty SD card for the transfer and keep the current SD card with the saves and everything.

Hmm. I'm considering buying a Wii U next year now, in light of the poor sales. I'm really curious to see what Nintendo does. I'm hoping for a significant price drop and better bundles next holiday season :D

Ooh! I just popped into the Wii U eShop and have been greeted by some Christmassy music! That's nice, I'm feeling a bit festive now lol

One other questions after the transfer, I want to clear my Wii of my account and possibly give it to a friend. If I Delete my eShop account info(as it instructs to do when formatting my Wii), will that fuck with my account info on the Wii U?

Just confusing because it says that my unused points and ability to download my old games will be lost once I delete my eShop account. But I wonder if that is only for use on that specific Wii console.

Basically how do I format my Wii safely including my account info once my Wii U is finished transferring everything over? (It's nearly done).

It will definitely be cheaper by then. They're dropping all support and putting efforts into a tablet device called the U Wii.

Once the transfer is finished your Wii is as new, the account is moved to Wii U completely.

So I'm playing super Mario bros U and while I'm playing on my tv it is also showing the same thing on the controller. Its sort of distracting seeing movement on the controller while trying to focus on the tv. I thought there was supposed to be a item screen or something down there.

I bought the console finally, but I did not have enough money to buy everything I needed anyway like an E-shop card(They only had the $35 one at future shop) and an SD Card since I lost the one I bought to store downloadable games on my Wii a while ago.I bought some protection for the gamepad(A third party one since I could not find the first party one),the Black WiiU pro controller and Super Mario 3D World.

Only fear is that when I go to the eShop, I see my past history still listed. All of my downloads state "transferred to Wii U" and the new user would still need to purchase any of them again to redownload. But I don't like that there still remains some info about my account left behind on the Wii console, especially if I give it to a stranger.

Any further help on this?

You should definitely get ZombiU when you can it's a great game, I know you said you don't have money to spend atm, but when you do get 3D World, and Pikmin 3 those are a few of the must have games on the U.

My NNID is the same as my user name also feel free to add me if you'd like

Oh yeah, I totally want those games, especially 3D World! I'll add you, too!

Damn, you just missed a fantastic black friday sale for Zombi U at BestBuy. Selling it new for $15. I ordered a copy shipped to me and I don't even own a Wii U yet, just know this was one of the few games I was hinging to buy when I eventually do purchase.
Yeah, I wanted to take advantage of that sale, but I just couldn't make it to Best Buy (and I am a bit hesitant in buying online after being the victim credit card fraud recently).

I tried the Wonderful 101 demo, and I was blown away by it! I had no desire to even play it, but I decided trying the demo wouldn't hurt. FUN demo! Yet another game I need to get!

I bought AC IV on Wii U and I'm enjoying it. It's not unplayable as the DF analysis makes it. As neither the most of other 3rd party ports aren't. Until the DF analysis everyone in the next gen screenshots thread was amazed by its look on Wii U (for a 3rd party port), now it's shit because the gods have spoken. Oh well. I guess I'm in that minority who enjoys the hell out of the gamepad.

I agree but that's always the case when it come to DF analysis. I'll buy ACIV on Wii U when I get around to it , but for now I've been playing more indie games and 3D World.

Then format the Wii and that's it. The account is anyhow linked to Wii U after the transfer.

DF analysis is honestly like a broken record. They also exaggerate how badly the framerate affects some games and completely ignore screen-tearing for some reason even when it's present. Anyways, them bashing the Wii U version is nothing new I guess...

I've almost 100%ed AC4 on Wii U. There's some very minor framerate chugs in the larger cities but overall you'll never really notice them. The lighting is gorgeous in the game and the textures easily crap on 360's version (I double dipped.)

I don't think there's any worry. If you let the Pikmin take everything from your old Wii to the Wii U, the old Wii is now like a new system again. Everything is transferred and you can redownload on your Wii U or play or whatever you want. It all moves. The Pikmin take care of that for you!

I've done the transfer but just haven't gotten rid of the Wii yet. I know it looked like a new one on the home screen once I was done.

I just bought my first eShop game, The Wonderful 101. Download speeds don't seem to be too good; it's using only half of my 3MB/s fios connection.

Well if it's an older model Wii, it basically becomes a Gamecube after the U transfer.

Yeah, Wind Waker does look ridiculous.

Though playing it again, I am remembering that it's one of my less-favorite Zelda games. Still awesome, but I like walking on solid ground.

glad to see you're playing it. I didn't even finish it in 2002, but devoured this version in ten days days and 40 hours of gameplay

I havent played it since 2004-05 and the only thing I can really vividly remember is that final shot of your final blow to Ganon.

The only thing that sucks so far is the fact you cant invert the Y axis for camera control, just like in the GCN version. Of course they give you every other option and you can even invert the X, but not Y. It's fucking horseshit and it'll take me awhile before I can get properly adjusted.

Is Splinter Cell: Blacklist good on Wii U or does it have benefits on PS3/360? It's on sale today at my place but only today.

I think it's a pretty par for the course port from what I understand. I actually remember there being some Wii U exclusive content for the game, at least initially. I haven't played the game though, so I'll leave it to others to give more definitive information.

I hear you, brother. I hate when games don't have this option, especially in 2013.

Single player is great. A ton of content. Online is barren because they didn't fix connection issues fast enough plus low sales which burned the few of us who cared.

Only real downside of the game in my opinion is the loading. Its 3 times longer than it should be. Luckily, in mission loading such as checkpoints/deaths/ failures are only a second or two.

I am playing through it at the moment for the first time. Haven't really played a Zelda since ages, so it's a lot of fun and the art style is fantastic. Sailing is starting to get pretty tiring though, oh well. And some optional parts of the game seem to be huge time sinks...

*Sigh*... It's nice that you are enjoying the game, but the numbers don't lie. It is a shit port that runs below 30fps a lot. And it doesn't look better than the PS360 versions. No reason to sugarcoat. If you have low standards, fine. But there is not reason to pretend it's a great version or anything. And no, people were not amazed.

I started to waver on picking up a Wii U based on sales numbers and then realized that I was just being silly. The perceived value is there already for me with what had been released and what's coming soon.

So I picked up the Walmart Mario/Luigi bundle deal with the $25 GC and then the Toys R Us B1G1 40% off for the family Christmas present. A little looking around went a long way.

It really isn't. It's not an optimized port, but it's certainly not shit. It's fully playable and most normal people will be more than happy with it.
