Since these are common to all industries, they should have regulations to guard from exploitation like other industries. I don't really find it shocking, and I'm sure you could go to many workplaces and find people being exploited and overworked and having breakdowns. That doesn't make it okay, and it is important to have things like this which reveal the truth of common business practices, but it's not really surprising.

Eh, i wouldn't bother comparing it to "every industry". But a more appropriate comparison is sport.

Young athletes have huge workloads put on them from a young age. And they can be treated just as badly.
