Kadokawa confirms Sony sent an acquisition letter

Sony can easily absorb all parts of Kadokawa (gaming, manga, real estate).
I would be more worried for the small visual novel studios Kadokawa owns than for FromSoftware.

I actually got an exclusive look at that letter.
It was pretty much this:

Would be interesting to see what From would do with Sony's decima engine.

There must a lot of Japanese documentation thanks to Kojima productions.

People saying Sony would suddenly turn this company woke need a serious IQ test.

You guys seriously believe Sony doesn't know how incredibly dumb that would be?

Do you really think they haven't analyzed the market to know that turning a company that deals primarily with Anime and Manga into some Californian woke friendly business would be the stupidest idea ever?

Did they not just took the biggest L ever in gaming due to Wokeness this year with Concord and immediately axed it and sent it right into the shitter along with the entire dev team?

I know some of you are joking but come on people, they aren't THAT incompetent.

Kadokawa is a massive company that employs thousands of people across different media and fields and yet the one thing people have latched onto about this here is console exclusivity for a couple games lol. Pretty fucking dumb but unsurprising.

You know how there is a lot of "gaming is doomed" posts and how most of them are hyperbolic... This is not one of those...

You apparently don't follow the news well. Sony has been actively buying up everything related to Anime and Manga for the last 10 years. Including studios, streaming services and publishing houses.
Aniplex, A-1 Pictures,CloverWorks, Madhouse,Toei Animation - These are all Sony studios, not counting smaller ones like JOEN.
And slowly but surely they are taking control of the Anime and Manga market.

Imagine telling me that I don't follow the news well...

Also, you don't know what you're talking about. Sony owns 5% of Madhouse. They do not own Toei.

They do not have anything close to a monopoly in anime.

Pssst... Dont know if you noticed, but this forum, and in particular, this section, is about games.

(Edit: also, console exclusivity for a couple of games? What games are you talking about?)

Getting From is nice and all but if this deal goes through Sony will truly be the god of Anime.
I'm more worried about Sony having a monopoly on the anime space than I am anything else. Crunchyroll is expensive enough as it is. I don't give a fuck about From games so whatever on that front.

This is my assessment too, they would be better off buying Square Enix, From is too rare of a jewel and Sony doesn’t have what it takes to recreate their games.
Sony should just let the guy who runs From to keep on just running it. Why try to fix something that isn't broke.

Is Kadokawa really so massive that Sony would be interested in acquiring them?

Another day on gaf. . . another day to hear people complain about wokeness.

Honestly don't think this one's a big deal. From Software kinda feels like a Sony first-party anyway. As a bonus, maybe if they're under Sony's wing, they'll finally get some decent performance to match their god-tier game design.

I honestly would prefer From just be left alone and not connected to any studio but their own. But whatever happens, happens. If it DOES happen, I obviously hope it's more good than bad. Man, that would suck so bad.

Geniuses don't worry about engines and optimisation. I'd rather From produce Elden Ring quality rather than stale optimised games.
Unrelated to the acquisition, but I'd rather they did both. In the end it's a game so being able to play it smoothly is a big part of the experience, genius or not. They're basically doing a disservice to their own games.

Some of From's finest works came through their partnerships with Sony, so your doom and gloom has no basis to it at all.
We have no idea how the partnership between From and Sony has worked up until this point. Maybe they just let them do whatever they wanted. Maybe Sony presented a ton of really shitty proposals that From declined before eventually settling on something that reflected their own vision. If it's the latter, then being owned by Sony would have the obvious drawback that From would lose all bargaining power. If Sony really wanted them to, say, make a soulslike spinoff for Horizon then From would have to work on that, even if they thought the idea was stupid and would rather make something else.

Sony just published Stellar Blade this year and people keep saying these nonsense stuff. Besides that, From have start their golden run with a Sony partnership, aka Demon's Souls (and Bloodborne).

Stating that Sony somehow will destroy From Software is just dumb thinking.

From Software going out with Elden Ring as the last good game.

Any future FS games I will not be pre ordering until I see reviews.

Ummm.... have you seen how Sony runs things?

Look into Bungie/Concord.
Sony's record with Studios that have previously worked as second party developers in their ecosystem has been pretty good though...

Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Guerilla etc.

The reason this is happening:

Sony: Remake Bloodborne
From: No.
Sony: Dammit, remake Bloodborne
From: No!
Sony: REMAKE BL--
From: NO!
Sony: (scrawls out acquisition letter to present to shareholders)
From: Ugh, fine.

They still would be their own studio though? It's not like they'd be forced to work with Naughty Dog or anything (although that Collab 'could' produce something amazing... From story/design with Naughty Dog tech)

They would most likely be part of SIE and one of the PlayStation Studios but they would be no different to any other studio in that they would be self reliant, they could continue using their own engine, or Decima (that is being offered to other studios within the group but most like their own engines as they are tailor made to the games they make), or a third party engine like UE5, its up to them.

Well, potentially. It really all depends on the agreement to be quite honest.

It could likely "be no different", but I still think one of the things that makes From so special is how they represented themselves. Especially when their success relies on their own success as a whole, no one else.

can't believe they are going to ruin FromSoftware.

if this goes ahead they better have a hands off approach. don't fuck it up Sony.
