Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city |OT| No Beats By Dre

This shit special, g'damn. With the skits, the beat changes and all the layers Dre just crafted a movie out of sound and Kendrick is the star. Kendrick really upped his technique which I have no doubt is due to Dre's perfectionism. Everything flows so well and the reason why the deluxe tracks or C&C didn't make it is because they don't fit the movie. The album ends with a Just Blaze banger: Compton is the final jewel in the crown, Kendrick breaking in, giving a heads up about Dre's role in the album, and celebrating his achievements and the city he has been repping since the late 80s.

If this doesn't go plat there is no hope.

So can someone confirm who is singing along with Kendrick in Dont Kill My Vibe? I was reading on KTT that Gaga fans saying it was her..

Also the vocals around 4:00 on Money Trees >>>

I disagree that C&C doesn't fit the "movie". Good kid, mad city? Come one, that is exactly the mood of the song:

"Now I was raised in a sandbox, next to you and her
You was holding the handgun, she was giving birth
To a baby boy to be just like you, I wonder what's that worth
I-I wonder if you ever knew that you was a role model to me first
The next day I-I woke up in the morning, seen you on the news
Looked in the mirror, then realized I-I-I had something to prove
You told me "Don't be like me, just finish watching cartoons"
Which is funny now cause all I see is Wile E. Coyotes in the road"

The song is literally about a good kid in a mad city. It fits the album thematically and sonically. The only reason to be left out of the album would be the Gunplay feature...

just gave this a full whip test last night. one with my windows down shit blasting, and then another time, second half of the album, softly playing while i drove through some tornado warning weather.

in the thunder and rain...

so whats the "A.A." about.
cause the only A.A. i heard on the album was Arron Afflalo and that's random enough.

The last two lines of m.a.a.d. city:

"I live inside the belly of the rough
Compton, U.S.A. made me an Angel on Angel Dust"

BTW, I don't know what it means, but it seems to be what the acronym stands for. Angel Dust is a drug, and I don't see it being mentioned anywhere else in the song. Maybe because an angel is supposedly peaceful, and Kendrick is like a guy on PCP - full of adrenaline, euphoric, and paranoid. An Angel on Angel Dust.

I would have said coke? really good coke is called flake over here so angel dust wouldnt surprise me either really.

It also works, the effect of both drugs are somewhat similar. I'm happy with that explanation. Let me go to Rap Genius to gain some RapIQ with it.

Man I read this whole part in Kendricks alien voice lol

Going to resist the temptation to listen to the album until Monday. I want to have a completely clean slate before I am able to give the album a full listen through.

Good to see people are enjoying it though. Kendrick had big-time expectations for this one. And yall saying he delivered? Shit.

Wow this Album is amazing

Best debut by a rapper in a long time, probably since College Dropout and I think its even better than that off of a few listens

And I wasnt even a Kendrick Lamar fan before this album. I had heard him on features and some individual songs but never got behind the hype but now I see that I was missing out.

Listened to this three times now and yup it's still amazing. Favourite tde release this year. Top two tracks are maad city and money trees.

One thing I personally kind of don't like is how hamfisted some of the themes are like it's very obvious this album has the whole peer pressure thing going on in different songs which is fine, but the need to put a skit to reinforce it as if I couldn't tell it was peer pressure going on. Right now it's just a minor complaint, but something that could just annoy me the more I listen to it.
I have the exact same gripe with the album too, it doesn't ruin it for me, the album is still fantastic, but that was going through my head too.

Why we always gotta rank shit?

Album on its own is great on the first couple of listens, will see about the replay factor.

people hating on BSF really have to understand and listen to where it fits in the story of the album. It comes on right before Kendrick and his boys raid the house in Art of Peer Pressure, it's supposed to be some ignorant crazy shit because in the "story", he's with his homies not giving a fuck, having a good time.

No, they really aren't. In which ways are they better?

Considerably better production, KRIT has a better delivery, a more cohesive sound.

Again, Boobie Miles is just an example of the superiority of KRIT. The concept, theme, delivery, flow, hook, beat and lyrics is just better than anything there is on Kendrick's album.

I don't think people are "hating" on the concept, just the execution. I just don't think the track is all that good.

You're really saying KRIT is better lyrically than Kendrick? And has better hooks? The fuckouttahere.

I'm gonna be real, I don't know if I would put GKMC over LFTU/4evaNaDay right now. Krit's albums are so good because his albums are a collection of songs that just bump like mad and have a great vibe. GKMC gets major points for being more of a complete project with the whole storyline interweaving all of the songs together, though.

I think all 3 albums are going to be in my top 5 at the end of the year.

I'm absolutely saying that. Or what, compare the hook in dying of thirst with the hook of My Sub Part 2, I Got This, Boobie Miles, 4evanaday theme, etc. and tell me Kendrick has better hooks lol.

Haven't listened to GKMC but LFTU was underwhelming. Just an okay album, may have come out too close to 4eva. I was tired of Krits subject matter, and the hooks were absolutely tiring. His first 2 tapes were just classic though.

Also, saying Krit is better than somebody is certainly not offensive.

Swimming Pools has a better hook than any of them.

What about lyrically?

Live from the Underground has an incredibly cohesive sound and also feels like a "movie". The transitions are so smooth, from songs like Yeah Dats Me to Hydroplaning.

I feel you, but not like GKMC, imo. I'm probably the biggest lover of LFTU in gaf hop lol.
