Sounds like the the theme is the corruption of innocence. In freestyles and his most recent song TBTB he has spoken about drugs and guns destroying his city and tempting his homies. Violence is imported and then his people start killing each other. The pimp doesn't even have to pimp - the tricks trick themselves.

yeeeeeeeeeep

People laugh at the college course thing, but it happened already (even if he's talking about the title rather than his album per se)!

Loving the details from that RS interview. This gon be guuuuuuud.

I like the title better the more it sits with me.

but let's not talk about that. I want to stay on this very interesting and not at all meaningless discussion of whether this is kenny's 2nd, 3rd, or 88th album

That album art is dope. I'm hopeful after The Blacker the Berry, but will reserve judgement until the album drops. The title takes some getting used to for sure.

OHHHH didn't know about this but my body is ready

I'm also waiting for that cole collabo.
This might be the first album I buy since Yeezus.
And the first album I buy and actually listen to more than once since Smokeout Conversations (does anyone else even know what that is?).

Cautiously optimistic! GKMC is one of my favorite hip-hop albums in a long time. I love it. This... sounds like it may be a bit of a departure. I'm okay with that, but classics are hard to top... We'll see.

People expecting 808s, programmed drums and "turn up" music are going to be disappointed. He's been mainly working with Terrace Martin (instrumentalist responsible for much of Section80 and the live stuff on GKMC) , Robert Glasper (jazz musician), and Sounwave (Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe). By all accounts the drums are live and dirty, and The Blacker The Berry seems to be what to expect. Bombastic drums on the more aggressive tracks, mixed with jazz and funk sounds.

George Clinton is on the album, Prince and/or Stevie Wonder might be on the album, and Pete Rock is on there too.

Fuck yes.

This is what mainstream hip hop could use tbh.

A jazz influenced album was expected honestly especially after he performed that Untitled song on The Colbert Report. I believe he even said so in an interview or talked about the direction his next album will be going in with someone.

But yea, expect less tracks like Maad City or Michael Jordan and more of tracks like Kush & Corinthians or Rigamortus as far as instrumentals go.

Terrace Martin has said a lot of the low end percussion work of the album is heavily influenced by Midnight Marauders. So it's definitely going to knock in the whip.

If he has a joint like Electric Relaxation on it... lawd
Everything about that track is heavenly.

Hope that's true. S.80 > GKMC.
