I kind of want this album to be what his mom wanted at the end of "real" but at the same time I hope he doesn't go all good/positive. If the blacker the berry is a snip of what it's like, then kdot is gonna do good. Fucking stoked

how is mainstream America supposed to relate to this type of tracklist?

Fox News gonna flip their shit

i thought Kendrick was one of the good ones!

People expecting 808s, programmed drums and "turn up" music are going to be disappointed. He's been mainly working with Terrace Martin (instrumentalist responsible for much of Section80 and the live stuff on GKMC) , Robert Glasper (jazz musician), and Sounwave (Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe). By all accounts the drums are live and dirty, and The Blacker The Berry seems to be what to expect. Bombastic drums on the more aggressive tracks, mixed with jazz and funk sounds.

George Clinton is on the album, Prince and/or Stevie Wonder might be on the album, and Pete Rock is on there too.

i want more boom bap, fuck 808s i agree

Can somebody explain to me the internet hate for "I"?

It samples an awesome Isley Brothers track and is trying to inspire a lot of people out there with little hope. More musicians should be doing that sort of thing.

Yeah I don't get it either. It's nothing earth shattering but it's a decent poppy track

This...

The song is dope and has crossover appeal. People treating the song like lil Wayne belch on it.

It's turrible. This'll be a 15 track album for me.

Section 80 does have Kendrick's worst song. No Makeup is fucking awful.

^has to get drunk to have fun

:)

I liked Real tbh

agreed. it worked really well within the context of the album. the hook is meh but I wouldn't call it bad. the hook in no makeup is bad. the hook in real is just there. it doesn't really add or detract from the song.

I enjoy i. the only thing that kind of bugs me is that damn chipmunk voice.

He did perform an extended version of it on SNL(?) I believe, awhile ago.

Never in my life have I seen it because I don't like "i" to begin with so already the album is a 15/16 lol.

Do yourself a favor and give it a shot, the snl version is much better.

You'll hate Section 80 then because that whole album consists of weird ass Kendrick voices.

I absolutely love Section.80 actually. I like most of Kendrick's voices to be honest. it's one of his big strengths as an artist. something about his voice on i doesn't do it for me though. still dig the song though but every time his first verse starts I'm like "whaa?" then I adjust.

FIRE!

This is gonna be sick I'm so ready

also I like "i" yeah it's different but it's catchy, I reckon people might change there opinion on it after hearing "u" then listening to "i" it'll all flow well like GKMC

The hook kills Real, I just can't stand it. No Make Up is listenable at least.

Real and that Sherane song are candidates for worst songs on GKMC.

Now I really can't wait. Section 80 sounded amazing to me and Bitch Don't kill my Vibe is one of my most favorite tracks from him ever. Bring on the funk/jazz.
