not feeling the guitars in this tho. =/

Sounds great!

Man, looking at the tracklist, I hope one is the Colbert song. Doubting it at this point though. At least I'll always have the performance to listen ;_;

Is the soundcloud link for the King Kunta snippet down? I get an error message =( I wanna listen too dammit!

just got back home and was bumping king kunta for the whole drive. shit is my fucking jam. the bass is on point.

"what's the yams?!?!"

Just listened to King Kunta. I like it, but I can see how some wouldn't like the back up singers. I feel like their timing is off or something. It doesn't bother me, but I can see how it can feel weird. Solid track and I like the James Brown influence.

Edit: It's really great if you're into that funky sound. It's pretty slick actually.

Yea that part felt like one of the producers just ran outside and gave three women 10 dollars to sing a hook right quick.

King Kunta was a good listen but it's definitely not a song I'll listen too often for years and years and years. Not a fan of the backup singers/repeating vocals. Not my steeeeez.

Seriously, they should have edit those background singers vocals or something. It was like somebody tapping you on the shoulder and screaming in your ear at the same time. wtf :/ :/

I think it's a mish mash that's kind of iffy on the execution. I see what he's trying to do with it, but:

1. I don't know how I feel about the effects on their voices

2. The 'we want the funk' and other vocal flourishes feels out of place. I get what he's trying to do (paying homage and stuff), but I think he probably should have left it out, lowered the amount of repetition or changed how they enunciated the phrase.

I like them saying 'King Kunta', especially when they say Kunta at the same time with Kendrick.

more of an electric funk sound vs. James Brown's style. definitely hearing that mothership connection influence in there, especially with the whole "by the time you hear the next pop the funk shall be within you."

also the bass in kunta sounds like it's running through an envelope filter

Guys, relax. While some may not like I and King Kunta, I loved New Slaves and Black Skinhead and the album was still disappointing.

These songs grow on you. I didn't liked 'i' until I listened to the live SNL version. After that, I started to listen to it more and I really like that song now.

It's an unofficial leak.

But yea, you can hear the Parliament influence. George Clinton is in the "i" video and on the album.

actually listening back it doesn't happen that often. the main bass that chugs along is fairly clean but every now and again you'll hear that low quack come in, not too loud though. either way I doubt it has anything to do with the quality of the leak, sounds pretty damn solid to me.

edit: ok now it sounds like the bass player has his enveloper filter set up extremely well and just knows exactly how to attack to get whatever sound he wants. so it sounds like it's on all the time but for most of it it's just this subtle, like, baby sweep whenever he holds a note. then occasionally he'll attack a bit harder to get that quack pop.

I like it, but has Kendrick really rapped recently? This song is pretty short without any bars that punch. It's good on a musical level, but I don't know... something just feels off.
