Kendrick Lamar's verse

I'm starting to feel that any rapper doing a direct response (especially over the same beat) is taking an automatic L. They sound too reactionary and some even sound offended especially considering all the rappers that made response records weren't named directly. Outside of Joell, everything has just been....aight or just outright weak. I'd rather hear new records where rappers are just goin in, maybe a line or a verse or something if they have to mention it.
Same.

I don't think this is true anymore. Dudes are just trying to make money. The prospect of having to get a real job is probably more terrifying than any jabs K.Dot can throw

well i think the initial idea was to have both simultaneously, to have a plethora of money and the prospect of becoming the greatest. the context of kendrick's list of the new school rappers is that these are guys who were good enough to make their money (to the point where it's nearly inconsequential), and now it's about the dream.
perhaps it was forgotten or shafted once they all became rich, but kendrick seems to still hold on to that and now that he's got the money, he's locked his sights for the top. or at least the first to vocally notify everyone that it's his next step.

A must watch: 9th Wonder and Young Guru break and debate over Kendricks verse.

Really funny but a bunch of truths there. Copy+pasting from what I said in GAF-Hop but really, what do you say to Kendrick when he's cornered every barbershop argument? What will their rhymes contain? Choice quote.

"There's a lot of n***as running around the city talking about they "really rap." They're complaining that's the reason why they're not on. So really rap. I'm on, so really rap."

Also Big Sean explains Control. IMO this is how everyone should handle getting wrecked on their own track. If sample clearances was a cop out, he wouldn't have put it out period.

I love how angry, hurt and disrespected people feel about this. And I'm not even counting rappers, lol! "Yeah, he iight son, but really if you think---" I can't hear the rest of your statement over the sound of your face exploding trying to hold back the tears.

Yea sean kind of got bodied on his own track that was suppose to hype up his own album. So thats going to take some time for that wound to heal

9th hit the nail on the head. Not only did Kendrick murder everyone, he kept it 100% on rap. Doesn't care about clothes, doesn't care about cars, doesn't focus on money...dude is daring people to out rap him. That's it.

These dudes can't even comprehend that. They've been gliding on being richer or selling more than people, but finally here's a dude who went platinum yet can still rap his ass off.

aw hell nah i aint catching up on 9 pages

That song is horribleee isn't music supposed to be fun to listen to? Geez that was disgusting

this was 10x more fun than any sean track should be

Listening to the radio just shows a lot of people don't actually listen to lyrics. People calling in saying Kendrick went at NAS, 3 Stacks, ETC.

...wow
its still weird that it's being called a diss track but that's a whole other level of dumb

Drake does not care

He's headed to the bank

this, so hard
its been said but the only people more immune to this hungry/competitive side of hip-hop are the pop dudes like flo rida & pitbull, going after them would be as weird as when em would name pop stars alla time

I want NY to write against this and come out hungry - not on some beef, but on the spirit of competition.

That's how this would've been in the 90s, or even the early 2000s before ringtones and such.

that really would be the best thing to come out of it, but its clearly not happening...i missed today's responses but honestly if joel ortiz is a highlight i shouldv'e stayed asleep

Joey Buddens been talking reckless on Twitter, said he's about to go write up a response.

hew

That was a cold verse...

Joey Bada$$ said hello...

HEW

It's a sad day when Joey is the representative for NY.

if son lives in an apt complex i don't think he should rep his floor
he knows about hip-hop, you can gather that from interviews but i don't think ive given a shit about his input on anything (past his taste in women, which is respectable) since he whined about XXL calling meth & others better lyricists and he threw a tantrum

Why does gafhop think these things deserve there own threads and why does gafhop only hype mainstream rap?

who is gafhop and why are you talking about a thread youve very clearly never even seen

man I miss hella dumb make no sense ryhme every word in the bar Cam'ron but he really did spit fire when he wanted to.

i wouldn't say I'm Nino with The Carter
I'm more like the plant in Little Shop of Horrors
but I don't say "Feed me Seymour" I say
"Feed me Dame, Feed me Leor"
Epic, they used to feed me detours
Rocafella, they feed me C-4

Nice to see people like 9th wonder and young guru reiterating what a couple people were saying on the first page.

He better not be featured on Drake's next album or do another tour with J Cole. Otherwise this was just another stupid rap publicity stunt.

These rappers are so fucking dumb

Like.. respond to what exactly? This isn't a diss, it's a fucking wake up call to do more than the usual things to sell a few records - everybody who responds to this so early misunderstood the whole point K-Dot was getting at. Respond with carefully crafted albums that actually has some depth and value instead of responding with a track that you shit out the next day which is by the way pretty ironic since this is how most of these rappers craft their albums

Somehow Joe Budden and Styles P ended up beefing with each other when Kendrick was supposed to be the target.

Styles is just an OG. Loved the diamond life mixtape, love that he fucks with jetlife and Currensy's crew.

Anyway I mighta missed it skimming over this thread but lupe dropped another song? And Los dropped a freestyle over the control beat. Any Los fans in gaf-hop?

He called himself the king of NY. I think that's what made certain rappers mad. Not the "step your shit up" part where he is calling out names. Being from Cali and calling yourself the king of NY is a big deal, it's a slap in the face to many NY rappers because it's kendrick basically saying you're not important and your town loves me more than you. That is shown in Astro kid and Joell's responses.

Why didn't he bring up Kanye... That would have made this much more entertaining.
Kanye's not new school, they're a different class. He's talking about the dudes coming through with him.

Dunno why he bought Pusha up though, dudes been in the game quite awhile.

SLR>SLR2

If no names like Fred the Godson are the only ones responding to this then this will get boring for me very fast.

None of the dudes Kendrick named (or other guys on that level) are going to respond directly. It's much easier to drop a hot verse on a different beat and then throw in a sublim reference to Control, rather than a head to head freestyle on the same beat.

The dudes responding directly now are just using Kendrick's name to get their buzz up (or back up).

Wait these are grown ass men right? Just just checking. I mean it's hard to tell. With all the empty threats and invitations to a ffight. Seriously reading that is taking me back. Haven't heard shit like this since the thugs in high school would get in each others face talking shit then slowly walk away from each other still talking about how they'd fuck the other up.

Whatever, the best rapper the west coast has had since Tupac died is a white boy from Detroit.

This. Kid Rock is the man.

honestly don't know which of these posts was dumber, but at least the last one had a hint at sarcasm
