Kingdom Hearts HD II.5 ReMIX |OT| Press to pay respects

Birth by Sleep is one of the few RPGs that I actually have fun grinding in. I'll start grinding just to maybe level up one command, and an hour later, I've leveled a bunch of commands, obtained at least two new finishers, leveled up all of my current D-Links, and found myself at level 13 with Terra before even finishing Castle of Dreams. All of Birth by Sleep's subsystems come together so organically in battle, and it has just the right balance of flash and substance for it to look cool as hell while still not feeling like I'm on autopilot. Re:Coded kinda feels the same way, but KH3D really, really dropped the ball there.

I keep getting one-shotted by the Large body heartless. He hits me when he is charging while my back is turned towards it. Am I stupid or is there not a way to switch between targets when I'm locked on?

Hold R2 and use the right stick to cycle through targets, though it's kind of a pain in the ass to pull off in the heat of battle. For all of the issues KH1 has, I don't know why it still has the least annoying target switching system.

Edit: You know how the Flame Salvo command in Terra's Dwarf Woodlands is in the high center platform in the big room outside of the Evil Queen's chamber and apparently can only be reached if you Air Slide or use Sliding Dash from one of the surrounding platforms? I only just now realized that there's a oven near the bottom of said center platform. If you hit it with a Fire spell, it'll ignite, spouting the same bubbles that you use to reach the surrounding platforms, and you can launch yourself straight up to the center platform. That's some KH1 level world interaction, right there.

That and the Disney Town generator seem like the only instances of it, too. My hope for future KH titles is that they incorporate magic into the exploration as well as battles: casting Blizzard to freeze an object to use as a platform, Aero to turn the windmill crank and open a door, Quake to clear away rubble/induce a collapse allowing you to proceed, etc.

The title of the game is based on Kingdom Hearts II's and Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix's secret ending, "Birth by Sleep", a title which Nomura developed as he wanted a phrase having "by" as well as to use an English title like previous games.

Lol.

I wonder if he starts writing the plot following similar weird desires.

Gah i wish KH2 just went full on action game with block/dodge cancels. They are tip towing so close to being a full fledge stylish action game I dont know why they dont just do it. Keep the leveling, equipping, and additional move earning, but put in combos. Game would be straight perfect if they did that. The menu is basically useless as is, especially today where quick menus have become the norm.

I agree. That'd be great to see implemented.

Another thing I thought about while playing and collecting the crown stickers in both games is why the hell they were never in KH3D. Considering the whole flowmotion mechanic, that seems like the single most obvious game for them to have put those in. It would have been far better flowmotion bait than stuff like treasure chests.

Prizes for completion include a more straightforward plot. :p

Considering both KH2 and BBS only got their pieces/stickers after each game's original Japanese release, it seems like a hint of a Final Mix edition that never came to fruition. I wonder if DDD being somewhat poorly received put the kibosh on that.

is Ultima weapon in KH2 as annoying to get/farm as it is in the first game?
Yes, it's annoying because you need to collect one of every synth item in the game to get it. Basically you get it so late that it's not worth anything because other keyblades have comparable strength and better abilities on them.

All i remeber about KH2 is that once you get te ability to shorten combos two hits you become a badass, making only heavy combos.

Ok, I feel like I should be playing this now. I've missed that. One of the things I love about KH1.

God bless Donald's Comet. He demolished those Dancers.

I'm remembering all the parts I don't look forward to in KH2.

Dancer encounters
That cave you fight Assault Riders in with Ping
Xaldin
Light Cycles
Pride Lands

Game still fun though.

Totally 100% agree. Grinding in BBS is super fun and it's why the campaigns for each character are so long for me. You can really beat them pretty quickly, but I get so addicted to leveling up commands that it takes forever for me to beat the game, lol. BBS definitely has the best leveling/melding system in the series (note: I haven't played ReCoded, so I don't know how it compares).

I'm nearly finished Terra's story on critical. Knowing what commands to meld is making this a whole lot better than when I originally tried critical mode on the PSP. It actually feels similar to critical in KH2.

Level 36 and just did the return visit to Port Royal. Gotta finish off Agrabah, Halloween Town and Pride Rock and then it's off to the final parts of the game on Critical. Fucking hate that Reaper Heartless with the coins on the return visit to Port Royal. I didn't die cos I took my time and waited for him to go for the coins in the chest but it's still an annoying fight.

Xaldin went waaaaay quicker than I thought it would. He's one of my pain points because I struggle to time when I can attack and when I just walk in to a flurry of blades. Learn/Jump obviously speeds things up but my timing sucks for him. Fortunately I merked him pretty quickly.

I like Critical in that you have to show care and attention far more than mashing your way through it. Wish I started on this mode now.

I finished the game in Critical Mode, leveled every Drive form to max, grinded to 99, got the Ultima Weapon, kicked Sephiroth's ass, cheated and also kicked the ass of the Lingering Will, and reached the Data Org room.

As someone that sucks at guarding and has abused Limit form more than I should have, this is quite the accomplishment for me haha.

Now I only need to defeat these 13 guys.

Little bit of both. On the one hand, she is really strong and has a strong mastery of darkness. On the other hand, her only consistent allies are Pete and Oogie Boogie, both of which are bumbling morons.

Then you have the fact that she is pretty ignorant of the Organization's powers. Like, she doesn't seem to acknowledge it and is very full of herself. She could, however, most likely hold her own against them to a degree.

Doesn't help that re:coded devolves her and Pete to Team Rocket status. I think 3D does, too.

Jeez...They really did that to Maleficent ?

I didn't play coded or DDD,but knowing that my favorite is joke status now is highly disappointing...sign.

Really hope her role in KH3 is as good as it should be.

Are you going to tackle the Data's and Lingering Will on critical or call it a day after completing the game?

Only... lol Good luck with Xaldin if you aren't good at Reflecting or blocking. Limit form is useless in that fight.

Well, we defeated Maleficent (and Hades, too) so many times now that it's hard to take her seriously.
And she'll never be the main antagonist again now, even for a time.

She's useless, which is a shame. It was to be expected though, Disney villains are just in the background.

Marry her to Xehanort or something.

Falk

that puzzling face
The problem with Maleficent is anyone with half a working brain would have ditched Pete after one game of incompetence.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
DDD does turn her into a joke too.
While it looks like she's about to do something legit evil, Lea appears and saves the day. The two run away.

And yeah, I do look forward to more Hades in KHIII if my "Mount Olympus Coliseum" theory is true.

Yup Hades and Maleficent are easily my favorite villains in the series.

I think both were great in KH2 imo without having to be Major villains.

I understand if they can't be major villains from a writing standpoint ,but I don't want them to be devolved into weaklings or team rockets.

I don't want what happened to Frieza in GT to happen to them >_<

Maleficent sucks. I find it amusing in KH2, that every time Pete runs away, she doesn't give a fuck. She just calls him an imbecile or something, but she doesn't pose any kind of threat.

Of all the villains, can I say I just love Braig/Xigbar? All the other villains are loud jerks who ramble on about darkness this and light that, and Xigbar is just some greedy jerkface who likes laughing in peoples' faces and has simple, clearly defined motives. That, and he's funny as hell.

I've loved Xigbar ever since "Rambling? As if."

Hades is hilarious as a villain. I laughed when Sora said,"I need to speak to Hades" and Hades replied with his fingers in his ears, "what was that?" That small interaction makes Hades so fun as a villain. Corny I know, but he managed to make me laugh on several occasions.

Yeah moments like this are brilliant.

I have to say KH2 is so brilliantly well animated.

Its crazy how much effort they put into individually animating this diverse, huge cast of characters.

And it still looks great.

Yep. The Port Royal world feature decent facial animation and qualities. This game is almost 10 years old. KH3 is going to be mind boggling.

While I do need a replay, based on my one playthrough I think KH3D is the worst game in the series.

I need to replay it too, I remember the Fantasia and Country of musketeers worlds (dat music) worlds to be awesome, and I remember Riku's final fight to be the hardest story boss of the series and that's all. Fuck that boss and his stupid qtes, man.

Soooo I beat Marluxia's shilouette by spamming Reflect and felt so damn good, fuck that fabulous guy.

I'm seriously considering doing the data fights, what's wrong with me?

playing the games in order really helps you get the plot a lot better

Having (most) of the story in one system helps too

Fully expecting 3D to be a downloadable title for ps3/ps4
