Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Review Thread

Very interested in this game, I'll be shopping for deals, might pick up the ps3 version just for comfy couch.

Any noticeable differences between 360 and ps3 versions?

But KOA doesnt have any of the charm that makes fable enjoyable. KOA doesn't have the living breathing world feeling of Skyrim either.
Yeah, my only knock against the game right now. I'm not finding the fiction or the world terribly interesting. I don't have that desire to seek out every single dungeon, every single side quest. Just not sucking me in like a Skyrim or The Witcher yet.

The stuff with your character not having a fate and the fateweavers and whatnot is sort of cool, though. I need to play more, there could be a lot of cool material that I just haven't gotten to yet.

Enjoying the game right now.

I doubt that I'd ever replay it, but it's so big that a single playthrough is well worth the money. The writing is Skyrim-esque--that is, not that good--but at least it doesn't sound like they only used six voice actors for the entire game.

I can't argue to make you like the writing, or lore, but I am assuming you guys that love that stuff are going into the dialogue, all of it, and reading the books and listening to the lorestones, as our lore is not written FOR the history of Amalur, but about it actually.

That isn't going to change your minds on quality, if you don't think it's there my post won't make it appear:)

But this is our, well, it's our version of "The Hobbit" as it relates to the Amalur universe. So much of what you are hearing and seeing is there to set the stage for the game, the end game and the rest of the products in this world we will be rolling out over the next 10 years.

Hey Curt,

I've been doing exactly that. Listening to each dialogue option and all the lorestones and reading all the books. The amount of lore and backstory and just general dialogue written in just the first four sub-areas of the starting zone is a welcome surprise for those of us to who like this sort of thing.

I've been surprisingly happy with the lore and writing so far. I usually skip the stuff, but there's a lot of good ideas going into the way this world works, especially the way the different races interact and how they see the world.

I'm holding off my judgement on the game until I'm about 60 hours in, because that's when Skyrim started to go from exploring a world to checking off a grocery list for me.

Everyone buy the game if you like RPGs, it's awesome and more fun than Skyrim. Read my post here:

Also, the game is so friggin humongous with so much content you'll be shocked. Well worth the money for those looking for a lengthy game. It doesn't get boring either, most of the side quests are really well-made and could be mistaken for main quests. Just ignore any of the bad reviews and buy it if you enjoyed the demo. The 2.5/5 score is a joke, so are any 6s and 7s to be honest.

I like rpgs, I bought the game and am really enjoying the experience. I don't feel its more fun or better than Skyrim however. There's something about the way Bethesda weave world building, exploration, audio and atmosphere together that nobody else in the business can get near.

I'm an ex Everquest player, and that game was broke as hell, but it had a quirky personality and soul that was highly attractive to some people. There are parallels you can draw from EQ and Skyrim. You can select a feature of either game and rip it to shreds, because on its own it doesn't stand up very well (especially if you like for like compare it to other games). But those games are more than just the sum of their parts. If you can get past the kooky parts, there's a rewarding experience there like no other.
