Kotaku: Concord budget was $200M which did not include marketing, the sale of IP rights or the acquisition of the studio

Firewalk Studios is shutting down, PlayStation co-CEO, Hermen Hulst, announced in a press release on Tuesday. The team was responsible for Concord, the company’s sci-fi hero shooter that bombed so badly it was taken offline just weeks after its launch earlier this year. The news comes less than two years after the PlayStation 5 maker first acquired Firewalk Studios as part of its ambitions plans for live service gaming.

So probably $300-400M with marketing and all the logistics.

Should have invested in Gaf. Gaf Studios would have made a better game and it would have sold at least 15K.

It seems he was sort of correct. 200 million is just the development. Then there is the secret level episode, the CGI episodes, marketing, acquisition, server hosting and many more factors. I'd say 400 million total isn't impossible.

Couple that with all the costs of integrating and then disbanding a studio and 400 million is probably a low estimate.

There is a reason everyone in blockbuster Hollywood movies is hot. Nobody wants to look at an eyesore. I’m not even saying you need to make a coomer bait game like The Last Descendant to sell your GaaS. Even Blizzard walks the tightrope really well with Overwatch. Nobody wants to play with aggressively ugly characters. It really boggles my mind that this game made it all the way to the finish line and nobody stepped in like “what the fuck are you guys doing”.

i had a discussion with a podcaster (which was discriminatory and borderline racist) ad hominem attacks and bullshit like that...

.. that clown who sees himself above the fanboy and console war and who understand financials and game development (so he claims) was trying to do damage control on Colin's $400M leak and the utter falirue of sony's GaaS

... stupid people

They really had a breakout success with HD2 and flushed all that money and more down the shitter, for a game that was obviously going to flop.

ANYBODY could look at this and say “nobody is gonna wanna buy skins for that.”

Don't forget, toxicity positivity.
If theres a single soul there who were sane and though the same thing(the designs are atrocious), they probably keep it to themselves over the risk of being canceled and fired.

True I got suckered in because I loved the gameplay but realize maybe I just got good at it because of the low player base and wouldn’t have enjoyed it with actual competition from 10 year olds like in the superior IMHO Apex Legends and Overwatch. Really liked the universal 3rd person Rolling and Gameplay mechanics though so I hope Sony takes the bones and does something with it without the terrible character designs.

Also I was on a gummy a day that weekend it came out.

Nope.

Not until we see the financials of 343’s Halo Games, Suicide Squad, or Ubisoft’s recent flops, and many others
Interesting. You think that one of the Halo games might have been higher? Or Suicide squad? I hadn't asked about that from anyone.
The sources all said 400 for just game was for sure wrong. But I didn't ask about other titles. Your talking a percentage right? Like even a small game like Phoenix rising?

So Colin Moriarty was right, 400 million for everything, what a colossal waste of money, whoever saw "something worth" in this piece of garbage game should resign, but yesterday 😂

All that money could have gotten us a motorstorm remake, resistance remaster collection, killzone remaster collection.

This will majorly damage the blue haired brigade at Sony. Imo this is a hit worth taking.

Wait. Did that one person(Colin, I think) who said 400 change it to 200? Originally, it was stated 400 without additionals.
Though I admit I didn't recheck.

How the hell you buying a studio and give it 200 million, without seeing any game and the quality studio management ? Yes, i'm talking to you Hermen.
A good presentation with a lot of nonsense dreams about it being "the future of Playstation"
