I wish I could beleive that, but then I remember how Paul Dini said they cancelled Young Justice because it had to many fans that were girls. I think there is some kind of sickness that only affects CEO's of american animation studios or something.

I don't think they want their shows to fail, but they come up with the most asinine reasons to fail them.

And that issue is because, in their words, "Girls don't buy the toys."

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

Which is another issue.
Instead of actually TRYING to market to girls, trying to think of merchandise girls would like, they just give up and piss off fans everywhere.

A few months ago when ASM2 was in theaters, McDonalds was giving out ASM2 Happy Meal toys for both boys and girls. Boys got toys and girls got ... well this stuff.

But my point is that fucking McDonalds actually tried to market to girls. It's a sad reality when they're doing a better job at this.

I'm kind of confused by the suggestion that McDonalds is some kind of low bar of marketing, when they're probably one of the most successfully marketing-driven companies in history.

I'm mostly just saying that the people that make the shows should try harder to appeal to a wider audience.

If this show gets canceled it would be justified punishment for its stans (and creators) referring to seasons of a tv show as "books". It is so deeply embarrassing and cringeworthy.

Korra Book 1 and 2 do indeed have English subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Oh that's good. What about the Avatar: The Last Airbender boxset, do they have subtitles?

And that issue is because, in their words, "Girls don't buy the toys."

This brings back memories of when Mattel just flat out didn't make any toys of the female characters when they did the toys for Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Left me confused as I saw Avatar as a show that appeals to both girls and boys.

You may be on to something there.

No you are not.

So is digital-distribution-bending a sort of specialized schedulebending like metalbending or bloodbending?

no this is Asami's specialization. She's a master money bender, and now she has learned of a new way to money bend where she bends it so much the money flow stops completely, and she can force shit online.

I would guess worst case scenario at this point is the last half of S4 has a massively cut budget and goes straight to DVD, but that seems unlikely.

Hilariously, at this point a retail DVD release for S3 and S4 actually sound pretty expensive all things considered. I'd expect them to show up in pay-to-own Amazon Prime or iTunes, if that. Nick sounds like they're abandoning ship as much as it can. If the voice acting hadn't yet been done and animation been well underway for for S4 I guarantee you Nick would've pulled the plug.

I didn't even know there were people who had a problem with Avatar's seasons being called books.

It made it easier for me to remember which season was which since they're all named.

The real reason they pulled it from the air. They didn't want the backlash for when this character was introduced at the end of season 3.

As always with everyone. But Mako really need some love to cheer up a bit, just saying.

FUCK.

MAKO.

He deserves jack shit for cheating on girlfriends twice. Bolin is more of a womanizer but at least he doesn't cheat on women. Officially. Crazy ice princess doesn't count because she's a psycho.

So... I just heard the news, and really don't feel like reading through the last 5 pages. (I read enough to figure out that is when the news hit this thread ><)

Are there any details beyond
We will have 1 episode on tv tomorrow.
the rest of the show won't be shown on TV anymore.
At some point it will come online.
we will learn what is going on at comic con? (which is what saturday?)

To be fair korra has been largely a failure so it's not surprising nick considers it that. It's just been a clusterfuck of not knowing how much they had. We had a bullshit end to season 1, a horrible first half of season 2 in animation and writing, and low ratings. And that's not even going over how much writing issues there are compared to atla.

It's sad to see an avatar show go in such a way but hopefully the franchise will be kept alive in other mediums like games and comics.

Nick has mishandled this series since it's inception pretty much. A lot of the reasons for the problems that S1 had were due to that. Remember it was supposed to be first a movie, then a 12 episode mini, then a full season. The extension left the crew with a hell of a rush for Book 2, and it shows. Mir couldn't do all the animation, the scripts were generally poorer, and the scheduling for the show after Book 1 was atrocious.

The ending to Book 1 was what it was because when it was animated, it was supposed to be the end of the series, there were no plans at the time to continue Korra when it was written. The beginning of Book 2 has the issues it does as a result of that too, and the reason that they went with the HUGE big bad then, was again, the series was supposed to end with 26 episodes. Then it got extended again.

I know people have said they wished that the series had more time with Amon, or more time with the Vaatu story, but that was never in the cards. Even if they say, found out that they were getting a second season (books 3 and 4) during production of Book 2, which is what happened, the process of animation doesn't let you change much once you are in that phase, VO has been recorded, every scene has been storyboarded out, and the die are cast.

Look at the difference in quality of Book 3, which hasn't been rushed, and had the creators knowing exactly how much time they had to work with.

Nick simply doesn't care about the series though, and it definitely shows.

After this Friday's episode, episodes will come out once a week online (Nick.com and digital outlets like Amazon and Hulu/Xbox).

They will probably mention full details at Comic Con although they pretty much said next week will resume the 1 episode a week schedule only online/digital. The creator also said that Book 4 is fine and Studio Mir is deep into animation. That said, we don't know what their contract is. So Book 4 could possibly change at any time.

It sucks this happened right when the series was getting good...but that's part of the problem, the series was just getting good. Most people find season 1 of the last airbender the weakest of the series, and even then it's a solid season with character development and character interactions and is still considered good.

The first two seasons of Korra is either mediocre or flat out bad outside it's animation. Then we have the stupidly moving it to Friday night, which is a death slot due to the sheer amount of competition compared to Saturday mornings.

To the bolded, while I completely understand, I thought this was also the case for the original series? If so that didn't stop them having big plans beyond what was already funded.

thanks for the update...
with all of these changes I am half expecting them to go...
AND IF YOU WANT THE FINAL EPISODE TO SEASON 3 YOU HAVE TO BUY THE KORRA VIDEO GAME COMING OUT THIS FALL....
that would show us all for watching it on tv ><;

And here I was thinking this was so active because everyone was starting to like the show again and wanted to discuss it. Man, complete heartbreak...

It's already being animated. I think there was a comment basically saying "it's safe."

Yeah, it still looks like Book 4 is going to happen, but the animation budget might get cut or Studio Mir might be told to start rushing things. This is just speculation on my part, but I'm trying not take very much for granted right now.

Sort of. Bryke were invited to pitch ATLA to Nick as a big epic adventure story, and they had the entire three season arc outlined (albeit very roughly) by the time they made their first pitch. The initial episode order was only 13 (ending with "The Blue Spirit"), but the understanding was there that they would keep going for three full seasons if the show was successful. With TLOK, the idea was for it be a miniseries from the beginning. IIRC this idea initially came from Nick, but Bryke have said that they like the idea of shorter, self-contained seasons, even suggesting that they would have preferred to do that with ATLA if they'd had the opportunity. TLOK Book 1 was initially written as a completely stand-alone work, however, but that obviously did change when Nick started asking for more seasons.

I thought this was suppose to be on for an hour tomorrow night? On my TV guide all I see is 1 episode called "The terror within" for 30 mins and after that is spongebob. Ugh.

And if they cancel the show, I stop watching the channel, simple as that.

Stop watching it anyway. Korra is done for them.
