I want a regular 2D Zelda at some point but this looks cool too. If it's set in LttP/ALBW Hyrule that's fine, I love that map and I'm sure Nintendo will find a way to mix things up.

Zelda seems to fight like she does in Smash Bros: summoning beings for a short period of time, maybe even just for one move or attack.

It’ll be interesting to see how the boss fights work (assuming they’ll do regular dungeons/temples in this one).

I for one love the Link’s Awakening remake art style. Not sure how I feel about not controlling Link going around with a sword in a Zelda game. Also, the extreme freedom to use any object for any purpose sounds great in principle but at the end of the day it detaches me a bit from the world and the adventure, much like Totk did. Will see I guess.

I'm just glad we get a new 2D Zelda game. We can't really say anything else for now, we'll have to play the game to know if it's good (I mean, the most important thing about a good or bad Zelda game is the level-design and how good are the puzzles).

Very true, that will be the determining factor for sure. And this mechanic does have great puzzle potential.

It just irks me a bit that they seemingly made this into a 2D BotW/TotK type game for Zelda’s first outing as playable. I’ve always imagined they’d bring back the magic meter and have a big focus on magic, spells etc. if Zelda would ever be playable.

Copy/pasting furniture wasn’t really what I had in mind.

Could be good. The Links Awakening remake was solid despite the constant frame drops. I doubt they'll get the same lightning in a bottle effect, but Ninty at least doesn't botch their first party titles anymore.

I'm usually not into these creative and puzzle solutions and prefer a club, sword or axe to smash and slash things as solution. But the world looks so adorable and stunning that I still want to play it!

Nintendo have shot themselves in the foot this time. I don't know what you guys know about Zelda (I'm an expert) but come the fuck on. It's literally CALLED The Legend of Ze- wait. Well it's still fucking stupid. Why can't they make a classic Zelda game top down featuring Link? How long has it been, fothermuckers?! Zelda 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17 and 18 called, they want to STOP BEING UNDERREPRESENTED. You can kiss that crawfish boil goodbye and go back to snorting lines of yellow coke off the lid of the toilet (ancient) cistern, you mollywhopped diarrhea in a toothpaste bottle FUCKS.

I'm optimistic. Could be a lot of fun puzzles with that power set. And Link still acts in character when he gets captured, using his bow to save Zelda as he falls. So the vibe isn't like the malicious approach of western media when a woman replaces a man where the goal is to hatefully diminish the man and destroy the positive messaging of the established characters/world.

Cannot believe they skipped Oracle of Ages/Seasons for this. I'm still confused on why Zelda summons furniture in this title. They completely missed the title "Legend of Link" for this game. I think I'll pass on this.

This looks great, very different than your typical 2D Zelda game. Also unsure about the combat, but maybe the combat will be less of a focus and more so on puzzles. I love that Nintendo is doing stuff like this though, hope it's great and succeeds.

In the video they called it an ability, which seems to me there will be more abilities.
I trust Nintendo more than most to make a fun game, so I think there is more to this game than has been shown. I remember the first Super Mario Odyssey trailer not even hinting at the capture ability.

The gameplay looks fun and creative.
But I'm really disappointed they've stuck with the boring art style of link's awakening
I'm in the same boat. Game looks really fun though and I love getting other Zelda games than BotW which isn't my cup at all.

The dungeons were particularly barren and boring looking, that was my biggest beef. Some of the hallways were absurdly cheap and "artless".

It took 35 years, but there is a game I can, finally, play with my sister.
My little sister loved the Little Mermaid on NES, but that's about it. And maybe Sims or Sim City. I remember making a character for her on Ultima Online.. "Here, start with mining, go mine some ingots for me.." - that lasted as long as it took for a PK to find her. :messenger_grinning_squinting:

I wonder how the echo thing is limited. The RTS kid in my heart just wants to summon an entire army and just fucking overrun everything.

It’s limited by the number of triangles trailing behind “Tri”. You’ll notice every time she makes an echo that one of Tri’s triangles disappears. And I think different kinds of echoes will “use” more than one triangle. I think those moblin echoes used two per cast iirc.

So I imagine that you upgrade Tri over time to get more triangles, which allows you more simultaneous echoes.

I feel like this was a great direct, and this was probably the announcement I'm most excited about.

I think this seems like a super cool spin on the 2D Zelda formula, and it's honestly nice seeing Zelda get a chance to be the hero after all this time.

(little theory about the story; maybe when Link disappears, he goes to the island from Link's Awakening? they share the same art style, after all)

I would still ***LOVE*** to see the Oracles games get remade some day, although I'd personally prefer seeing an all-new art style that better captures the official artwork for those games. They have the best design in the whole franchise for Link, imo, and would love to see a game that captures more of that "teenager" sort of look for Link. This plastic look is very cute, and while it isn't necessarily my favorite style, seems totally appropriate for a Zelda game.

Who knows, maybe one day we'll get a game where we can play as a non-evil version of Ganondorf?

So do we expect ‘physics’ interactions in this?

Like, if I stack water and put a book in it, the book should float upwards etc.

Well, that's a bummer. But also understandable. Otherwise I'd go full Genghis Khan on Hyrule.

Looks ace. If you're bothered by Zelda being the protagonist of the game you've got legitimate brain damage.

Can see how the conjuring gameplay won't land with everyone but it's neat that they took the "wisdom" part of her character and made her practically a mage.

Also, using the creation tools in TotK was about 30x more interesting than "press B to sword", so maybe give it a chance.
Nah, I wanna press B to sword, no beds.

Nice to see Zelda in her own game and while the style isn't my preference, the people looking forward to seeing her in something the most are going to eat it up.

Some on Resetera very upset that Zelda doesn’t have a sword and appears to spend a lot of time rearranging furniture rather than fighting directly herself.
Lmao I just looked on that thread and I think I lost multiple braincells.

it's something different, I'll take that over yet another LTTP rehash (a formula that was basically perfected over 10 years ago).

I'lll take this over Oracle remakes too, again, it's new. Even if it sucks, at least it's different. Seems obvious that even Nintendo doesn't want to make LTTP again.

Man I really hope it's coincidence and this is not true.
Would it kill them to actually make a completely new and original 2D Zelda map for once?
Doubt it's a coincidence, but there's always the chance that it's not just the same map but an expanded version of it.

Yeah I'm sure they'll add new stuff.
And the entire summoning objects mechanics is already going to make traversal and exploration unique just like Link Between worlds did with the 2D wall paint stuff.

Still, I'd have like something completely new. The last 2D Zelda was a remake and the one before that already reused the LTTP map so it has been more than 10 years since we actually got a proper unique 2D Zelda world (spirit track ?)

It's a neat gameplay mechanic. Worked well in tears of the kingdom, but an entire game of that could get boring real quick.
