JANG reviews 60134 Fun in the Park City People Pack:

https://youtu.be/xzREA8vpfrA

This set got a lot of press at Toy Fair, due to the inclusion of the first official minifig wheelchair. However, this set has a lot more going for it than that, and I hope it is a great sales success for LEGO, so that they will be encouraged to step out of their "comfort zone" more often.

I'm buying it on principle alone, though I think it justifies itself just fine. This is an important development for LEGO, and I want to encourage that, rather than putting my money on yet another fire truck or police vehicle.

I just put together the set, but had not watched JANG's review until I was done to see how my impressions lined up with his.

This is going to sound really weird, but this feels like an important set. Kind of like it is a ground zero for a lot of greatness to come.

You have the first LEGO baby figure, as well as the first LEGO wheelchair that will work with any standard mini figure. Those two things alone make it significant.

But there are so many other touches to the set that just set it apart. The sheer variety of figure parts are staggering, and you could make just about any normal everyday person out of this thing, and from all ages. It has everything from infants up to senior citizens. Even just going off the instructions and following them, you also have different personalities for every gender as well. You have the nerdy little girl, but also the professional business woman, and just about everything in between.

This seems like some perfect storm to be all inclusive to all walks of life (well, except for the sciences, but those are different sets) out for just a normal day. There don't seem to be any gender stereotypes on display in here, and in fact seem to be bending some of them because they can. One thing that stood out is that even if the box pics and whatnot show the bearded man and the one woman as the couple with the baby figure, in the instructions you build the mother and the woman that runs the lawnmower in the same stage. It almost feels like a subtle insertion of a same sex couple in the City system sets. I know that was not the intention, and I may be projecting there, but that is how it came across during the build.

There are multiple simple, tiny builds throughout it, and it won't take you any time to finish it all. But this just feels like a watershed set. LEGO is breaking the norm from City sets, and also delivering an incredibly strong mini figure pack.

I really, really want this set to be a huge success for them, because it will show them it is okay to break from the norm of what they have been doing with City.

Jang sold me (again) on that set. It's pricy in terms of parts, but there's a ton of cool stuff I don't want to wait and get later. Also, it's probably good to send a message.

Yeah, it's the expession. he has both his tongue and teeth showing on one side. while subtle, it is the only version with that expression.

the scooby in dimensions is also a unique print. (tongue showing on one side, nothing on the other)

I see Y-Wings. I want a Y-Wing set. Please Lego... please.

I walked into a toyshop today to buy Rey's Speeder.. and it was out of stock. (Interestingly I've later checked and it's out of stock everywhere.. strange.) So I was looking around for some impulse purchases; maybe a microfighter, or a polybag.. I walked out with a Mega Bloks Halo Heroes Series Master Chief and a Mega Bloks Halo Gungoose (with Noble 6).. And I'm kind of amazed what great value for price the stuff I got were. I'll go back next week and actually buy the Halo 5 Warthog. Lego Star Wars price/piece ratio is so terrible!

Holy fuck.

Didnt think the Web Warriors set was a £90 piece. Hopes of getting two pretty much dashed right now. All the Superhero sets seem pretty high tbh, but still in for Scarecrow on a combine.

I watched Brick Shows review of Rex's AT-TE. I have to get that set now. I liked the preview from NY Toyfair and despite the Star Wars tax that looks like such a big imposing set but hella fun to build. Also pretty much all the figs are exclusives and wont be in any other sets. And on top of that I love Rebels so, theres that. If I could moc I would totally make the giant sand worm to go with it.

A shop nearby has reduced series 15 minifigures to 85p, and it seemed like a fun idea to try and find the tribal woman just by random purchases.

Time passes.

I currently own a lot of series 15 minifigures, and this is not quite as fun as it was at the start now. I don't want to admit defeat though =(

I finally picked up the dimensions Slimer pack today. I was disappointed to see how ugly it is. I was no fan of the mold as it doesn't really capture his film likeness but the colour is disgusting. It's a darker transparent green versus the light green I the firehouse. The box gives no indication that it's different to the firehouse.
I knew about the color difference when I pre-ordered the dimensions Slimer but thought the pic online looked fine. When I actually opened it though....this looks more blue than green, at least under incandescent lighting.

Oh well, I'm not buying the firehouse so if I wanted Slimer, this is probably it unless the new movie sets have him.

I think this pic is a bit closer to what the color looks like irl than the official box pictures.

Hmm, well I already snagged this set a few days ago at TRU, but I didn't know the official release date was May 22nd instead of June 1st. Interesting though

The shipping was super fast, so I've already received and reviewed Belle's Enchanted Castle: http://www.beardednerd.se/review-of-lego-disney-princess-belles-enchanted-castle-41067/

If you don't care about the set I won't bore you with the details, but some quickie things:

* The Beast head does fit perfectly on a minifigure.
* There's 10+ 1x1 gold plates with holes, and most can be substituted.
* 1x2x3 dark red roof slope and the lion statue in production is good news for modular bricklinkers.
* Featherduster is nightmare fuel.

Now on to the rest...

Vacation Getaways is the first creator set in recent memory for me where I basically look at all 3 builds and consider them all strong enough to want to build. Usually I buy them for just one of the builds, maybe 2 but its insane how quality all 3 builds are, and they are all 3 completely different builds too.

I haven't built it yet but I can easily see it making my top 5 of the year when I factor all the things I look for in a set when I make my top 5.

Ghost Rider impressions:

The street corner is literally a scaled-up version of the one from the Leonardo set before. Comes with four stickered newspaper bundles, two newspaper stands and a huge traffic light. Once again Bleeker St and Second Ave. On the other hand, I can use these for my city.

Hobgoblin is on another of those crappy little flying speeder things. Cool figure though.

Spidie is the simple version - why on earth does Goblin have multicoloured legs and not him? But the new grip-to-stud piece is VERY exciting. I need a ton of those.

Nic Cage has a cool bike that isn't TOO oversized and since the parts are all fairly standard I may keep it built (and give it to the fire elf). The figure is cool looking, BUT, the flame comes glued to the head. WHAT? It's literally the Taskmaster head with a new hairpiece, but I wanted to use it for other things. I mean, the set itself has a pumpkin that could have used the same part!

Fun in the Park impressions:

Obviously not much to build. Feels like an advent calender with more figures than average. The builds are generally crap, although the baby stroller is genius. Get this for the baby, the wheelchair and for a ton of new torsos and hair variations. And for promoting huge figure packs.

Ultimate Flama impressions:

Well, only built the figure. A really cool little figure, but since I can't put Ghost Rider's flame on him, it's a little less cool. And I've already started making him into something else...

Score! LEGO retail stores did indeed get new Disney CMF shipments to coincide with online availability. Specialist at store said they got a good amount, but not as much as initial shipment. Hopefully more shipments will trickle in to keep them readily available.
Full set complete. Now to focus on duplicates for myself and gifting. Got a box too, but it was already ripped open and folded for display. Will try to get a new that isn't ripped open or see if I can buy a full unopened box eventually.

Happy to hear the beast head is basically a "helmet/mask" that fits over the minidoll head and fits standard minifig heads.

WTF!?! Disappointed. I feel they could have done the flame differently and use printing to blend with a flame hairpiece.

I always assumed the flaming transparent headpiece from the ultra agents infearno set was going to be a great ghost rider down the line.

Can you please put Beast's head over the Goat Boy from the CMF line so we can get an idea of what Beast will look like in Disney CMF Series 2? :D

Click on his review link. He does except with a torso replacement to more resemble Beast in formal attire.

Seems like I'm busting your chops lately. :)

This arrived today:

10x Battle of Takodana minus minifigs. Got them for $150 shipped and they'll be perfect for a modular MOC I have in mind.

$60 x 10 = $600
$150 / 10 = $15 per set

That is an awesome deal for bricks!

At retail price, one would have to sell each minifig $9 avg just to break even. The person would have to get those sets on heavy clearance of $30-$40 to make a decent profit for the effort.

EDIT: Does $150 include shipping costs? If it does, you basically stole those bricks at that price.

Oh snap I didn't even realize he linked anything, zipping through the thread too fast!

Beast looks amazing as a Minifig, please please let there be a Disney CMF Series 2 with him in it Lego. All they need to do is use that head, make a blue suit torso, and change the printing on the satyr legs so that it's paws instead of hoofs. They could use the new Queen "legs" piece to do Belle's dress too (unless they did a "normal" Belle and not her Princess form).

I mean they reused the Pizza Planet Alien and Buzz when there have been MiniFigs, not even MiniDolls but MiniFigs, of them already. Do Beast justice! Rabble Rabble!!

As for busting my bricks lately, eh! I wouldn't have even realized there was a link to a review if you hadn't said anything. And with the Lego Mech hand thing, of course I know I could just build another hand hahaha :p I've done it before it's just a hassle (wah wah boo hoo) cause unlike all you Mega Moc'ers I don't have a surplus of extra parts so any kind of modding or building of a new arm/hand is likely gonna require a BrickLink order for me ):

Is it a limited print like the 41999?

Christ, I hope not. I am really compelled to get it, even if I know I won't use much of the parts again after building it. But the potentially limited nature of it and the awesome packaging are pulling me in.

As Lazlo in Real Genius said, I have certain materialistic needs...

EDIT: On a different note, I ran into a great couple at work tonight that are also LEGO fans. It was fun to finally meet some people in person that knew of modulars and upcoming sets, etc.

I also mentioned to them that I had been contemplating a way to being a LUG for southern KY/northern TN and meet more fans like them. I hope to see them again sometime.

And if for some strange reason that kind and lovely couple are reading this, you now have a face to go with this crazy avatar and postings.

Any new news on the Technic Porsche 911 due at the end of the month?

Reviews aren't allowed until June 1st, but there is a bit of an unboxing video on YouTube by a German car magazine.

I think I'm going to wait on this one, and hope that Amazon sell it at a discount in the future. That might change when the reviews are out!

Ugh, getting the last few minifigures in a series is always the worst part of collecting them. Still need Hook, Cheshire, Aladdin and inadvertently picked up duplicate Alice and Donald.

Is it me or is the Cheshire cat really popular? I cannot seem to find him in any boxes that have already been gone through and no one I know collecting IRL has him either despite making a point of looking for him as a priority.

I guess the Hot Topic crowd went for him.

That's a parts pack, yes.

A magnificent parts pack it would seem.

And I am trying to figure out how they pulled off the grill style pattern on the main tower. I am thinking plates with the small slider extension like they usually top off modular floors with, but set on their side.

EDIT: Looking closer at the pics, it seems to be using 16x16 plates, etc. instead of regular baseplates.
