I agree. I dated a girl once who owned 3 fucking dogs and a cat and she straight up told me once that she would save the life of her dogs over a human. That bothers me. Here's a woman with two children and she makes a comment like that. Obviously you would hope she cares about her damn kids more than a pet dog. But some people are so extreme with their attachment and feelings towards animals to the point where they value the life of a pet or wild animal over that of a fellow human being. In my opinion, that just isn't right.

I see variations of this argument a lot and I swear it's conflating two completely different issues. People often show more love for animals than they do for their fellow man anyway. Animals don't have voices of their own so people project all kinds of lovey-dovey shit on them in a misguided attempt to support their misanthropy. Furthermore, Kimmel's tears would have meant fuck-all anyway.

It is not a competition. Some people would love nothing more than to have everyone on the bottom fight for slightly higher standing which is absolutely ridiculous. I am much more in tune with the plight of latinos who aren't even called human ("illegal aliens") and who never report when they are victimized because they fear that police will contact ICE and deport either them or their family. Who get dirty looks when they speak Spanish and snickers when they speak broken english. That said, nobody gains anything if I post "well what about my people" in threads about black people getting killed. Me saying Black Lives Matter does not mean that the problems black people face are greater than the problems faced by Latinos, Native Americans, Muslims, Sikh, LGBTQI or any other marginalized group.
