im going to make a resolution:

absolutely 0 soft drinks for an entire year (which shouldn't be hard since i almost never drink them but this time im also swearing it off for occasions too)

It's a good resolution. If you want to be serious about it, no juice or anything of that sort as well, since they're usually (almost) as bad as soft drinks.

Not eating/drinking sugar is hard, though.

Well he certainly has your interest, seems like a keeper type of guy, and seems to certainly give back interest too from what you're telling us. At the very least i think you deserve to make his companionship. Keep in contact see what happens and what might develop from him. Maybe if not him maybe you could see or find someone through him as well.
But hell after all the mess you've had to put up with from a bunch of jerks, you deserve to find someone that gives you some happiness.

It's really not that hard. I pretty much drink water exclusively. The only other thing I drink is Powerade Zero (which has no calories).
