People really running with this "console price" remark. It really can't be over $500. It's made of cold leftovers.
That's what I've been saying! It would sell like hotcakes. With the specs of the device, it should be priced at $300.
I do think there's a market for a kind of universal prebuilt that delivers similar performance to its pc counterparts, even if it costs a bit more.
This is 5 years too late.
If a console player asked me about jumping to pc, I'd never recommend this thing at an 800 dollar price or whatever. Get a prebuilt with a 5060 or 9060 XT.
And they would lose a lot of money on each one sold, I think they want this to be low volume on purpose because that's all they are able to produce as their size companyThat's what I've been saying! It would sell like hotcakes.
And they would lose a lot of money on each one sold
It would make far more sense for it to be.With the specs of the device, it should be priced at $300.
Steam is already the most used gaming platform, they aren't in a hurry to take a big loss on hardware
Whatever they do they need to sell it for as cheap as possible or they risk sitting on a mountain of stock. $300 might be unrealistic but those specs aren't worth much more than that.Steam is already the most used gaming platform, they aren't in a hurry to take a big loss on hardware
They have no reason to sell it for a loss but just as a option in the already many pc options
They aren't making a mountain of stock so that's not a problemWhatever they do they need to sell it for as cheap as possible or they risk sitting on a mountain of stock. $300 might be unrealistic but those specs aren't worth much more than that.
Well if they aren't careful it'll be Steam Link all over again and I look forward to buying one for a couple bucks in a clearance sale. They aren't making a mountain of stock so that's not a problem
The frame for example is only forecast to manufacture 500k
Steam link became useless after they released the app it was replacedWell if they aren't careful it'll be Steam Link all over again and I look forward to buying one for a couple bucks in a clearance sale.
They will still have clear stock they can't sell.Steam link became useless after they released the app it was replaced
I could be wrong but from I heard its weaker than base PS5.......so chance are no.No one has answered the question does it do excellent ray tracing and wipe the ass of the xbox and PS5 combined?

It's not weaker than ps5, someone built a pc and got it as close to the steam machine as they could and it was a little stronger than ps5I could be wrong but from I heard its weaker than base PS5.......so chance are no.
Plus you can tweak settings in pc games to get the performance profile you desire. But Gaf will go on making dumb assertions regardless. A lot of you guys have no idea what you're talking about, it's hilarious. It's not weaker than ps5, someone built a pc and got it as close to the steam machine as they could and it was a little stronger than ps5

Probably not but that's what I feel it's worth. Just my opinion. This is absolutely not a $300 box.

It's a weird place to be with subsidizing what is in the end still an open PC platform, if you subsidize open PC hardware where you can install another OS and the value becomes too good, there would probably be hundreds of thousands of sales to people that never intend to buy a game on steam on there, at least. It's not really a console model where it's all locked down and you can reliably make the money back on taking a fraction of game sales later.
I think 500 is the fair price realistically and would still sell like hotcake but they'll try to bank on people viewing it as a cool little premium like steam box and up the price due to it. It's probably still going to sell a good amount even if it's priced at 600 for the base and 700 for the 2TB version even with worse specs than the pro due to the amount of games on it and able to use it like a PC so that would give it quite a bit more value than console due to a lot more games and something people would always have it on when they're home like internet browsing etc etc. If my PC fails right now, I'll probably get one and connect my mouse and keyboard to it and use it as a backup PC for a few years until Elder Scrolls VI comes. But...I would just spend double that and get a more future proof computer instead of a Steambox not sure yet.Whatever they do they need to sell it for as cheap as possible or they risk sitting on a mountain of stock. $300 might be unrealistic but those specs aren't worth much more than that.
500 for the Base and 600 for the 2TB version is probably the most fair balance for both Steam and the consumers. Selling for less than that would hurt one side and selling for more would hurt the other.I think our GAF voters are probably close on guessing the price. We've got a standard distribution centering around $500-600:

That is 100% what I would do regardless of price if my GPU unexpectedly diesIf my PC fails right now, I'll probably get one and connect my mouse and keyboard to it and use it as a backup PC for a few yeats until Elder Scrolls VI comes.

Given the specs, we know is not awesome, is mediocre. Tell any pc gamer that you are building a PC with 8gb video card, and they will beg you to upgrade, but when valve do it with a nice presenting package, the drones are activated and they are ready to waste their money. As long as he keeps doing awesome stuff for gamers/gaming, he can buy as many yachts as he wants imho. Give and take!![]()
The projection in this post is unbelievable, but I'll bite.Given the specs, we know is not awesome, is mediocre. It's like the switch proven point: you can mediocre stuff as much as you want, as long the presentation is nice enough to fool superficial people that only judge things by feelings instead of facts.
Hey, that's me, I am a PC gamer. For the use case of this device 8GB of VRAM is more than adequate, any questions about that?Tell any pc gamer that you are building a PC with 8gb video card
You seem madthe drones are activated
Pretty madwaste their money.
Definitely madfool superficial people
Confirmed for mad.judge things by feelings instead of facts.
Yeah, i know the specs are not that great. But if thats all what can you see, what Valve is doing...than I feel sorry for you.Given the specs, we know is not awesome, is mediocre. PS5 / SX are 4k targeting machines. They have memory bandwidth etc.If you told a "PC gamer" you were building a PC with 8GB video card that came to $400, they would say you did better than they could have. It all comes down to price.
If it's low enough, it doesn't really matter that it's not greatly future-proofed. It ends up being a toss-up with PS5 which has 16GB shared memory to SM's 16GB + 8GB.
If the price gets too high, I agree that it doesn't really make sense, especially since it can never be upgraded.
It should be presented as a console because that's how people see it even after valve saying other wise that's still how people see it

Gabe cube is 1080p machine. Its more of a upgraded Series S due to that. It will get 60 fps at 1080p where Series S could be stuck at 30.
You are aware the PS5 Pro does not come with a disk drive and that it's an additional $79 purchase, correct?I don't people here get his point. No one here asking for the steam box to have a disc drive. It just doesn't justify the price being higher than the ps5 pro that does have one.
The GPU can do native 1080p very well, and depending on the title 1440p as well. If it can get FSR4, it will compare very favorably to the PS5 which get 4K 40 fps upscaled from 1080p.PS5 / SX are 4k targeting machines. They have memory bandwidth etc.

its obviously marketed as targeting living room TVs, yeah good luck finding 1080p tvs in 2026
