Well, yes actually...how many times have we seen lame brained decisions from various devs in the last 4 years? A lot ..too much...a lot of it comes from the fact that they're not playing their own games on console. They're certainly not play testing properly. How many times have we seen Digital Foundry have to point out to devs and explain why another approach would've worked better?

No. Nor Returnal, Astrobot, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted 4 remaster ...that's 5 major ps5 exclusives they're ignoring ...unacceptable
Alan wake 2 plus any game that have intense software RT lighting and other RT
is a no on consoles. They eat all the bandwidth so there is not much left for anything else resulting low setting and low resolution.
It is no coincidence Jedi Outlaw which have software RT also fall into this category. Dragon Age is bit different. It is just optimization issue i believe. Bioware has shown distain for the engine because of how difficulty it is to work it.
Both Outlaws and AW2 Image quality/clarity and stability suffered greatly because they have bad specular highlights shimmering, RT Noise and edges alias due to low res and low post processing and no denoiser even on the pro.
The specular shimmering mostly due to RTGI. Only high post processing can eliminate this. RT noise can only solve by denoiser. The edge alias is due to low resolution and only high resolution can mostly clean this up.
Fortunately, UE5 seems to work great on the pro because l believe Lumen mostly set to low on these games but still look spectacular in 60fps because of high base resolutions especially Empire of the ants and Until Dawn remake. The first Descendant and Lord of the Fallen are also looking significantly better than the base console because of higher internal res.
So, in the end. I think bandwidth is the most important factor in these consoles and high resolutions is a must for image quality/clarity and stability.

Thats wild, John has shared a couple of anecdotes like that where devs stand there looking at him like "idk what you are talking about" lol. I wonder if it would be a big business move for them to open a consulting firm or something haha.

The best upgrades so far (do people don't think I'm just trying to be negative):
Last of Us 1+2- amazing iq at 60 fps
Jedi Survivor (blew me away in the 30 fps mode- this is what I hoped for from games like AW2 and SW Outlaws, huge iq uplift and added RT makes it look like a high end PC game)
DA Veilguard- it's gorgeous at 30 fps with higher settings now and clean image
Forbidden West-just a lot more detail can be seen now though the audio in my game is totally borked now.
Hogwarts- looks better
Rise of the Ronin- while I'm perplexed by the Graphics mode not getting a greater fps uplift, the actual iq and visuals look much better now
GoW Ragnarok-similar to other Sony games it looks cleaner and more detailed than before
SM2 and Ratchet- as always Insomniac goes above and beyond with their patches
Until Dawn- big improvement
Diablo 4- looks a lot better now
Demons Souls-already looked amazing but now even better
Boost mode games with nice resolution boosts and stable fps on Pro-
Suicide Squad- i know the game sucks but it looks better now at least
Banishers- it now looks a little sharper and runs smooth as butter whereas the 60 fps used to be unstable
Elden Ring-it looks higher res and fps might be slightly better but still disappointed no locked 60
I'm still testing shit so will keep posting impressions

Bought Star Wars: Outlaws yesterday as its the only Pro enhanced game I hadn't already played.
This is a mixed bag, I don't remember a game recently that can look both beautiful and trash at the same time depending on the area. The outdoor zones in Toshara (first main planet) can look stunning but interior zones really look flat and ugly. The world lighting really seems to benefit large outdoor areas but interiors just seem so dull. Supposedly this is the original "Quality" mode running at 60fps. I can't imagine how bad this game looked on the original performance mode on PS5.
Seems like a fun game however but definitely not a showcase for the Pro at all. Jedi Survivor looks leaps and bounds better.

I don't really understand.. where's DF Alex "RayTracing" Battaglia analysis and comparison with the 4090?
How bizarre nobody cares about the first instance of transparencies RT reflections on RE Engine, and also revamped opaque ones.
Just as bizarre as the game receiving a Steam update the same day as the Pro patch released and there's still no Ray Tracing on PC.

I don't understand how they're able list a game as Pro Enhanced when it's not. If your game isn't patched, then it's not Pro Enhanced and should be removed from the collection.

This is really annoying. They did the same for BLOPs 6 and Silent Hill 2. They got nice Pro Enhanced labels and aren't even enhanced. I think the Silent Hill 2 Pro patch might have dropped, but it had the label for a few days before.

And now this IQ is locked in as there is no option to play it in base ps5 mode.
There is a tone of shimmer and flickering even if i just stand still.
I do hope they will patch these games nut starting to think i should just switch back to my original ps5 for the time being

No it hasn't. The Silent Hill 2 Remake 1.05 hotfix update was released on October 25, 2024 is the latest update. There is no update released after that.

Ok but still no support for PSSR or PS5 pro. Read the patch notes. There is no mention of PSSR or PS5 pro whatsoever anywhere in the notes.

Depends. If DF are basically advocating for players and pointing out the obvious deficiencies in a game then devs should definitely listen to them. You can absolutely find cases where devs could have done much better with a product if they listened to their playerbase (via DF) and prioritised accordingly. Otoh DF are pretty clueless when it comes to how the sausage is made imho. But they are good at doing taste tests in general. So for DF its all about the context of their comments. (including whether they are pushing a narrative, sometimes platform, tech preferences or bugbears etc.) Basically nothing is ever black and white.
FSR is garbage. Worse than AI upscaling with dedicated hardware. Blame the devs not the upscaler.

You don't need dev experience to point out things from the player's side that developer often miss. DF were actually consulted for Crysis 2 & 3 remastered and they really helped make it a sound port for modern platforms devoid of stupid issues. Developers often make dumb decisions for no apparent reason. Imagine if someone could tell the Wukong guys during development how stupid is locking the game at 45fps in a 60hz container...

That doesn't mean the issues you are seeing are due to PSSR. Those look more like FSR artifacts to me, in fact. Now why the FSR would get worse on a more powerful console, I have no clue.

Jedi Survivor also doesn't use PSSR, as best we can tell. The patch notes would have indicated PSSR up to 4K but they only say it upscales to a much lower resolution.

OK lets be clear here. Jedi survivor only looks worse in performance mode.
They made quality mode look worse on base when they patched out RT in performance to make it 60 fps.
This time around they did the opposite. Quality now looks incredible and is stable 30fps but made performance look worse.

Logically there is no way silent Hill is patched. Everything identical from graphics setting to resolution for both modes. No change whatsoever. Except the game appear to be sharper in motion because it stays in the upper DRS range.
There is no way the devs or sony let this past certification if PSSR behave like that in performance mode in silent hill 2. Jedi-survivor is a difference issue. It appears to have shimmering and flickering on grass.

I have the same issues on my Pro with Silent Hill and Jedi (don't have Outlaws).
There's nothing wrong with your Pro, the developers just need to patch their games.

Certification is not QA, it's about image quality. If it was then many games wouldn't be able to pass it
.I think that what happened is that SH2 was made with some Pro implementation added from start. It was a game that should be Pro compatible day one. Because of that they maybe had done some early implementation of PSSR or other features and left it, because they were finishing the base PS5 version. So the code is there and was supposed to wait for a patch, because they knew that they have time after launch. Maybe they had some issues and haven't finished patch on time.
As for FFVII Rebirth - it looks great but also has some issues. Some edges are shimmering, some assets that are more horizontal (like stairs) are changing every few seconds. There is this huge grain noise (it's also in other modes but PSSR makes it more noticeable), that is connected probably to shadows/GI. While playing you forget about that until you notice it on some occasions. I'm constantly checking, if quality mode had that (some of the issues are there but less noticable). Still it looks great, sharp and super fluid.

Sadly, there is always more to these things than meets the eye and I don't think any developer wants to release a poorly optimised game.
Here are some comparison images of Jedi Survivor（Perf Mode).
The PS5 Pro version adds RT reflections on the water surface, and the exaggerated vegetation shadows that were in the PS5 version appear to have been removed.

I'm still in the early stages of Jedi Survivor and I've only ever played it in the Performance modes. But for me the Performance mode now looks sharper, more detailed and resolves distant detail far better. With RT also back again. But now suffers from some issues on some parts which seems to be to do with fog. Both base PS5 and Pro can suffer from image stability issues on edges. Though I reduced some of that by turning off ambient camera sway.
For me it definitely looks better on PS5 pro, though they need to sort out the fog issue. And due to general image stability, I'd rather they had kept the RT off and simply increased the resolution further than what they have.
One thing I will say, the system calibration driven HDR can look superb at times.

I played Jedi Survivor with the Performance mode and I find the image very unstable. Sure it looks sharp and runs smooth but every time you turn the camera you see white rectangles at the edge of the screen, as if the engine can't render the scenery fast enough. It feels extremely unpolished.
