Gah, Brazil is stomping Australia at the basketball. Australian coverage is shit, they show only the Australian competitors from each event, I swear. Instead of showing events they just show individuals. Team sports is better, at least they show most of the game when Australia is playing.

Anyway, Olympics isn't even about amateur sports anymore. The only amateur sports at the olympics is boxing and wrestling. On all the other events, you don't even need to be amateur :p

How many amateur golf players do you know?

I hate that. Stupid American basketball whiners.

Is there some reason why most of the players in football have to be under 23, but in basketball they seem to be allowed to have as many pros as they can fit into the team (at least I assume so, looking at Team USA).

i think it's okay to limit football to under 23 since we already have the world cup and the uefa + similar events on other continents that are WAY more important to the players and where everyone shows up. an olympic gold medal is the most important international event in basketball a large part of that is because the US shows up. the NBA should not enforce the same u23 rule, that would be incredibly stupid in the long term and it would mean no international event with all the talent.

+ olympics always are in the same year as the euros so good players from europe would have to play almost the whole year long.

Oh God the guy commentating the stream I'm watching is actually answering internet trolls instead of talking about the basketball match.

Unbelievable.

There's the world basketball championship, but it's far less popular (at least in the US) than the Olympics.

yeah i know but the us already sends their B-Team to that event and other NBA players don't attend as well. if the NBA makes the Olympics U23 they basically kill international ball.

The BBC news are reporting on the empty seats issue. The cheaper seats are filled but the more expensive ones (more than likely gifted to sponsors) are empty.

How about they're given to people who actually want to see the events?

This last minute is going to be a pain to watch.

Edit: Take Leandrinho out of there. What the fuck is that guy doing.

Ha! Apparently the woman in the red shirt during India's entrance at the opening ceremony wasn't part of the team and somehow snuck into the group.

Exactly, the solution is piss easy. Just do it. Fuck the sponsor seats if they can't be arsed to show.
