I'll be there for a couple of days at the start and have tics to the Opening Ceremonies. We are going to try to get tickets too for an event on the Saturday but I'm not sure if that will work out yet. If not, it gives us more time to see London...

Im READY.

Amazing.

Does home advantage have much of an effect in the Olympics? I can see motivation and support having an effect, but not enough of an effect to make the difference between 1st and 2nd in the medals table
It has more to do with investment than home advantage. GB's gold medal tally increased in the last games because of targeted investment in events they had a chance of winning. The same will happen in London.

Spend a lot of money, win a lot of medals.

I love that everything's in GMT since most events will just be on in the early morning up till the afternoon over here on the East Coast, so I'll be able to catch everything live during the day. And that's pretty damn great compared to how it was during 08.

Of course, I'll be rooting for Canada and the Philippines. My fellow Canucks will probably do okay-mediocre as is usually the case for the summer games. And I'd ecstatic if any Pinoy managed to medal in anything!

Anyway, I love the spectacle and drama of the Olympics and I can't wait for this thing to finally get stared.

Looking forward to seeing how sain Bolt bounces back after recent poor form (by his standards).

Also, James Magnussen killing the pool.

I got tickets for the athletics at the olympic stadium on 6th August, looking forward to the event but the restrictions imposed are slightly un nerving. One of the guys I know didnt get in as a helper but as a result has a ticket for mondays technical rehersal of the opening ceremony.

I spent my entire childhood wishing for a major sporting event in my back yard, like the Olympics, or the WC, and when it actually does come you realise it for what it is, a corporate shills wet dream and corruption and orderly chaos on a colossal scale. I'm still looking forward to the spectacle and the 5% of the sports that I actually give a shit about, but it's somewhat tarnished and too difficult to get invested in for me.

Personally I find it kind of sad that half the posts in the fist five pages of this thread are about basketball and football, two sports I don't even think should be in the Olympics.

Eh, typical British reaction to it is to complain, I suppose.

Anyway, I'm most looking forward to the open water swimming and triathlon (because I regularly compete in those myself). Some of the cycling, swimming and athletics will still be good to watch, though.

I don't think they will. I was expecting Germany and South Africa to top Korea/Japan World Cup opening just because it was more recent, and they didn't come close. They went for something more subtle that reflected their countries culture and history, which may be the same for London this year. Plus, to top china here is even harder.

Well the opening of world cup have never really been that big.

The olympic opening have been a "Propaganda" show off since 100 years back. Only lately, have anyone even started paying attention to the world cups opening.

People sure have it in for those vuvuzelas

Restricted items:– Noisemakers such as hunting horns, air horns, klaxons, drums, vuvuzelas and whistles.

Yeah working throughout.. Have some days off here and there, will be extra busy at work. But gonna try and check out the Super Hi Vision stuff... Regents street is packed at the best of times.. This is gonna be nuts lol.

Will posibly watch a few events from the comfort of my work lol..

Cheering for mother Russia in all sports, and a special shout out to ma boi,

Gonna put the smackdown on Usain Bolt, twice.
lol, usain let him win at the jamaican nationals, he says he's back in shape now and ready to win again.

He's gonna break his own records.

The amount of things I'm hearing about all the limitations and censorship due to sponsor demands make me wonder if London allowed itself to be pushed aside too easily. I mean, I know this stuff has happened at the Olympics for God knows how long but I never heard so many of these stories happening in the other cities.

This is probably what it takes to get the games these days ...you want the show? you bend over for us and our sponsors.

Live in North east London, work in the city, and I really don't care if the olympics screws up my commute. My work is being pretty flexible with working hours anyway. I'm really pleased we have it here, got tickets for the MtB XC, shame it's not actually in the Olympic site but at least I'll get to see a medal ceremony.

Oh and if anyone is coming in to London over the next few weeks and fancies meeting up with some fellow gaffers for some brewskies just let me know and I'll get the London Gaf crowd together.

I honestly don't get the nationalism. Like, it's cool to cheer for the home team and all, but some of my favorite Olympic moments have nothing to do with MY home country. I mean Dan Jansen is probably my all-time number one Olympic memory, but number two is watching Jagr and Hasek get a gold for the Czech team off Russia.

Also I love watching sports the US sucks or doesn't qualify in, like Rhythmic, or Handball or whatever. Sure, when I'm watching the Biathlon I do root for the US women to do well, but it's not like I'm watching to see them place or win.

That's why I loved watching the raw feeds during the 2008 and 2010 games; I could see EVERYONE compete and it wasn't just the same two braindead commentators rehashing a 12th-ranked performance of some American X-country skier when I wanted to watch the damn race.

Hoping the raw feed situation is still available this year, and also hoping I can set it up on our big TV now that our television is better than our computer monitors.

Open Water is going to be so amazing.

Those panel things looks way worse irl, so nice photography! :D And wow when was this taken? Apart from today the weather has been horrific while i've been in the village.

Time for a few pics ...quoted for size.
I was there a few weeks ago, staying in the Premier Inn at Westfield.
The high speed trains to Stratford International will hopefully work well.

I wonder if people will spend the day at the Olympic Park, and head to Westfield and Stratford for food (instead of everybody eating at McDonalds).
Also hopefully there's more parkland around the Olympic Park, looks like a concrete jungle from the first three pictures.

Here's a few I grabbed today from inside the village:

About half the athletes have moved into the village now, hopefully soon I can get a few pictures with the athletes in. At the moment were allowed to chat with them but no autographs or pictures being taken directly of them :( Also as you can see in the pics some countries are quite happy to display their locations to everyone, others not so much :P Infact you can see where America is staying in one of those pics I posted but you would never know as they aren't showing anything off for security reasons, have their own security in any all that jazz.

p.s. I apologise for the crappy iPhone quality :)
