I'm going to the beach volleyball preliminary rounds and men's semi final football at Wembley. Have I missed something or is it actually possible to get tickets on the day?

I'm not sure what the situation is with tickets when the games begin but I am hoping that there will be some legitimate way to get one for an extra sport while I am there. The official site still had tickets left for a few events when I booked them not too long ago.

I am going to 4 games, all preliminary rounds.

1. Men's Basketball - UK vs AUS
2. Men's Hockey - India vs Korea
3. Weightlifting - Various Countries
4. Women's Beach volley Ball - Various Countries

Wish I got some USA in there (I am an American) but didn't get the option with the horrible lottery system they used. Oh well, should still be fun to watch.

Never been keen on the Olympics either, but figured since I am here its a once in a life time chance.

I don't believe commonly televised sports such as basketball, football, golf etc should be in this

why? That just sounds elitist, "those pauper sports have no place along the noble games of curling and badminton!"

Olympic women football and olympic basketball are the most prestigious event for those sports.

Golf will be introduced in 2016 btw, with rugby 7

Why do you guys call it the Summer Olympics since it doesn't always happen in the summer? It's the Olympics or Olympiad!
I'm not really mad, just find it funny!

Let's go Brazil!

I am spending a week vacation in England, and I will be back home tomorrow. London is unbearable right now. Too much traffic everywhere. I pity Londoners who want to get to work in time when the Olympics start.

Indeed.

"The fact that instead of creating construction jobs for Britons, the Olympics had provided work for “a bunch of Lithuanians, Romanians and Czechs.”

Did they ask this question in London or Bradford?

Who knows. There's dickheads everywhere nowadays.

Will QA for food.
I can't take that logo seriously.

But woohoo, go Canada. I won't be able to watch much, I'll definitely be following the results.

The torch came through my town the other day and it was all ads. Just a stream of trucks with logos on them.

I've never cared about the Olympics but I really want to be able to get a ticket to something just so I can say I've been.

My sister, brother and niece are currently sampling the joys of elite Football.. Senegal vs North Korea at a Friendly at Broadhall Way, Stevenage.

I booked the two weeks of Olympics off - no fucking way I want to be in the City during the games. The public transport system can barely cope as it is.

You know it's going to be an issue when they've cut back the opening ceremony due to transport concerns. Screw that.

Can't wait for it too actually start. Living in London it seems like the buildup has been nothing but negative press and corporate backslapping with actual sport pushed into the background. It's unbelievable the amount of buildup there has been to what is ultimately just two weeks of sport.

Obviously it won't be on the same scale as 2008 but I'd take venues like Greenwich Park, Hyde Park, Box Hill, Wimbledon, Horse Guards Parade, the Mall and Royal Barracks over the purpose built venues in Beijing

As a Brit in the USA I'm totally stoked for this. Was really worried about NBC's coverage after the crapfest that was the Winter Games, but it looks like there's going to be live streaming of every minute online (3500 hours). That'll do.

Team GB will dominate the cycling, our sailers will do awesome (my parents live by the Olympic Sailing venue and I used to sail in Portland Harbour). Not that interested in track and field, and hope to see some surprise GB metals in events I don't expect.

Bailed out of London just in time. It's going to be crazy.

I'm working at the games (doing some administration for the housekeeping team) and i'm commuting in every day.

Alot of the teams have arrived now (just checked in brazil + columbia recently) and from what i've seen and experience it's going to hold up pretty darn well.

I wouldn't believe the typical scaremongering of newpapers (yeah i'm looking at you dailymail). They gots to get paid so will jump on anything like this.

Oh and i've just been told I will have entry to the olympic park during the opening ceremony :D (i'm usually based in the olympic village).

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Going to the Olympics in 1996 is one if not the highlight of my life at least with regards to what I've ever done with my Father. It was an amazing almost indescribable experience.

Have the Brits added extra funding to train athletes?

Canada put extra effort toward their winter athletes when we got the Vancouver bid and it paid off big time. It was a hugely popular event because of it. The Aussies had a great showing when they hosted. Same for China.

I hope London puts on a good show and has success for their athletes. As much as this is the premier international event, it's a huge boost for the national pride of the host.

As much I love 'Merica, I think China will be even more successful and cleaning up in the less televised sports like ping-pong and shooting and they'll be better in the popular sports. For example, they have some of the best men's distance swimmers right now and have put up the fastest times of the year thus far. So, I think China will likely win the medal count again and additionally be in very good position to win the gold medal count too.

Also, US Men's national team failed to qualify in soccer/futbol. =/
