I was pretty annoyed when I found out I wouldn't be able to go to the the olympic park :(

Was your hotel opposite the ExCel Arena? Same rates as the one I've got booked. How were the queues and the spectator zones?

My hotel is on Stratford High Street, so it's very close to Olympic Park. Only a ten minute walk away. I collected my tickets from the park box office and each one came with a free travel pass. I don't know how flexible they are or if they last the entire day but the passes are perfect for getting trains to the arena. They saved me a lot of money from travel costs.

Eh Syncro is one of the few events I have very little (no) interest in. It just doesn't appeal to me at all even though I end up watching it most years (family loves it).

They have syncro figure skating as well. Thank god thats not an olympic sport.

My connection is being throttled because an idiot in my house is streaming two BBC streams simultaneously. Thanks for wiping out the data limit for me you bloody idiot.

I agree.

Though with beach volleyball I get the closest I probably every will to understanding heterosexuality. Luckily I can just watch a stream of mens diving to right myself afterwards.

It's unfortunate that you guys probably won't see a match in this tournament in the level of those from the old days when Brazil, Italy, Russia and Cuba shared dominance. Every single set ended well over 30 points.

It was so freaking mind-blowing that Volleyball was probably my favorite sport back then.

But it's still an amazing, incredibly competitive sport. The number of teams in these tournaments (both Men's and Women's) that actually have good chances of getting the Gold Medal is quite a feat.

Random question for RIO:

Are beach soccer players allowed anything on their feet? I am just imaging tackles and such with bloody flipped toe nailes and it make me flinch 4 years early.

Whoever decided to schedule beach volleyball at night basically wiped out half the photo-ops of the Olympics.

Dick.

I've no problem with handball, it's a legitimate question---I never hear about the sport outside of the Olympics.

I often heard that handball is the second biggest sport in the world if you count players. Not very likely to be true, but it's really big and popular in many countries. Where I live, in Norway, it's only second to soccer. It's big in most parts of Scandinavia and continental Europe, and also in Russia/former Soviet countries and South Korea.

I played it when I was a kid, and it's really fun and interesting when you get into it. I remember scoring a goal once by rolling the ball between the legs of both a defender AND the goalkeeper. They never saw it coming! Didn't work when I tried it again half a minute later, though. Good mix of strategy and explosive movements, a little like basketball. You can get pretty beat up as well if you're often on the offensive.

Only problem with the sport is that it's really hard to make into a good videogame. I don't think I have ever seen one, and if I did, it probably wasn't very good.

These super heavyweight boxer's punches look so damn painful in slow mo. makes me wonder how they manage to stay up after being hit full on with one of those.

Just as I was typing this the Chinese guy knocked out the Aussie with a super right hook.

Good to see loads of us posting about the volleyball. I know I keep saying it but it's has me hooked since day one. The quality has been really good, I've always felt entertained when watching it.
