Anyone know if NBC and USA will change the medal counting style?

Would be hilarious!

No, they haven't. China is still ahead on NBC. And it's the way the US has done it since forever, not some bias thing. Also, if you look at individual events where US has most golds but less medals throughout history, they also rank the US behind them.

As far as medal count, I'll remind everyone no country is going to be as dominant as the former Soviet Union, which would sometimes take home up to 50 golds in Olympics with fewer events.
Edit:
is phelps racing anything else?
Medley relay tomorrow night, which should be an easy gold.

Fastest 100 back of the meet
3rd fastest 100 breast of the meet
Fastest 100 fly of the meet
fastest 100 free of the meet

on paper only Australia could pull an upset

Bwahaha. Brazilian TV showing Cielo's parents' reactions during the race.

They looked basically crushed when they looked at the results.

Basically just like everyone in the entire fucking country.

Not diminishing Phelps amazing feats but there aren't many sports allowing such medal collecting. One can be the greatest runner of all time and never achieving this Olympic medal count.

I may be biased, and I know the whole world thinks differently, but I like the total medal count better, I think anything that lessens the gold or bust mentality is a good thing in my mind. I read somewhere that a lot of countries cut funding for events that they don't think they can get gold in, since that is what their medal table is all about. If China finished ahead in total medals but with less golds that would be perfectly fine with me.

Forget other sports, no swimmer is even anywhere close to Phelps' medal count, even with all of the medals available. While the total medal count is amazing, the margin of how many medals he has compared to other all time great swimmers validates his status at the greatest olympian of all time in my opinion.

so he is racing the medley relay? thanks guys, do you know what day that is?

tomorrow around this time - the women's 4x100 medley is tomorrow too featuring a lot of stars like missy franklin. Women's race should be much closer with USA, AUS, and NED.

ok. i woke up early for the tennis today, and slept through the first half of the swimming today :(

Which makes his achievements all the more astonishing. Just like "runners," most swimmers specialize at a very small subset of the entire sport. The fact that he has to bust his ass on a lot of tiring events each Olympics makes it impressive too.

Cycling was so awesome earlier. I really want to take it up as part of my workout routine I'm going to start very soon.

Love athletics. Is Bolt next week?

Which is why comparing individual medalists from different sports is stupid.
