its not even a tape delay, its recording the tape, sleeping on it then waking up and running it delay

The tape delay really is brutal. I've had a ton of events spoiled for me accidentally, including the women's gymnastics final that I wanted to watch tonight. I'm getting really fed up with it and it's only the fourth day. The first day of coverage NBC even spoiled Lochtes' win on their own network while I was watching another sport waiting until later to watch the race, it was such bullshit. An hour ago I figured out my directv account and am now going to be watching online live, thank you very much. I'll keep recording the primetime coverage though so I can rewatch some amazing moments that happen if I want.

In the arena watching France against Argentina basketball, a min to go and the frenchies are booing loads at their opponents. Anyone know why?

Here is the problem with NBC-ratings are actually better than 4 years ago so they have zero incentive to change things.

Do they ever pretend that they're showing the events live and unedited?

Edit: The interview with Le Clos's father is on Deadspin.

not sure, i don't really pay attention to the primetime coverage since it is mostly comprised of things i watched during the day, like swimming. i do know that they basically take international olympic feed and put a dub commentary on it AFTER the event is over. same kinda shit we bash NK for, but at least we can see the real shit if we want. beijing was much better because the time differences matched up well, so basically everything could be shown live

what is handball exactly? is it soccer but you hold the ball in your hand essentially? i have never seen this sport in my life, but it is on lol

Do we know this for sure?

France pulling an upset over Argentina.

Edit: Gotta love how that game ended with a monster block on Ginobili's layup attempt.

Do the same issues exist politically for a GBR women's football team that exist for the men's? Even if we can't have a men's team in future Olympics, letting the women take centre stage would be delightful.

the stupidest part about nbc's tape delay? their own local affiliate stations will cover the phelps story before the tape delay is shown, brian williams will talk about it before the tape is shown, every other station has probably already spoiled it(i got text alerts from espn right after both races today)

i got a text alert from NBC themselves (their olympics app) right when the event was ending. Their front page has it.

There's scots in the womens team, but there's still things like refusing to sing to god save the queen that the media goes on about. I'm sure the women would rather play in a scottish only team as well, but given that's not possible as of yet it doesn't make sense not to agree to play. it's the olympics ffs.

Seriously? I though japan is good at ball control and organization, but Brazil is technically better so they should give lots of trouble to japanese style.

But then I also thought they would lose to usa in penalty last year.

The Japanese girls are world champions.

The Brazilian girls freaking suck.

Women's Football is a complete mess, though, so I guess anything can happen.

Man, that really sucks, then! I thought they recorded and edited the stuff they did live commentary for and the live commentators just forget that it's going to be edited later on so they say that it's live or something. If they really do put a dub commentary over the Olympic feed, that's really lame.

If Canada's CTV can show this stuff live, with several channels at its disposal (ex: CTV, Sportsnet, TSN, etc), I don't see why NBC can't do the same thing. Same goes for the time zone delay for those on the west coast--it's really disappointing that they seem to have to wait a little longer.

This is amazing. They're even inconsistent.

How come rugby isn't an olympic sport? Team sports in the olympics are really fun.
They need to vote I in. I don't think there are any specific rules for qualifying as an Olympic event, but I feel like it needs to be a sport played in most of the continents.

We have sevens at rio. 15 wouldn't work. Rugby takes about a week to recover from playing.

Guys, They stated it from the first day they will re-air as the way it happend. Everybody uses the same feed because NBC/NHK/BBC provides the cameras. INOC provides the secondary GFX.

Pretty certain the commentary is live and the whole thing is edited later. If not, Dan Hicks and Rowdy Gaines are amazing actors.

Next Olympics it will be I think.

Just checked it, looks like there's going to be a 7-players version in Rio. Never heard of that version, I wonder if countries are just going to take their 15-players rugby team and cut it in half. Looks like they play this variant in commonwealth games, might be an advantage for them.
