At 18km:

1 Great Britain WIGGINS Bradley 23:14.73 0:00.00 +
2 Germany MARTIN Tony 23:25.96 +0:11.23 +
3 Great Britain FROOME Christopher 23:38.31 +0:23.58 +
4 Switzerland CANCELLARA Fabian 23:45.56 +0:30.83 +
5 United States of America PHINNEY Taylor 23:59.98 +0:45.25

Whilst I think disqualification is the right decision, nevertheless it does highlight that something is fundamentally very wrong with the existing group format in the Olympics when you’ve got 4 top quality sides who were in contention for medals all out of the competition now. Weren’t the Chinese pair the top seeds?

In my opinion the governing body WBF has to take a large part of the blame for allowing things to get into this mess. It’s clearly a dysfunctional format when participants feel they’re being punished for winning and rewarded for losing.

No doubt some teams are greeting this news with glee and rubbing their hands in anticipation. I wonder if team GB is back in the mix now? :o Pity it wasn’t arranged it such a way that any of these 4 teams were playing us in the last match. I would’ve roundly applauded them with a standing ovation as a very sporting gesture towards their host :D

You know what the hilarity of this farce does remind me of? The greatest Olympian of all time, Steven Bradbury

Froome is by far the best overall rider. He can live with Wiggins on the flat time trials and destroy him in the hills.

Are they in radio contact with the cars? Because that wasn't allowed in the road race.

Looks way different without dem glasses :P

Why couldn't the Spaniard just re-start? So many sports allow for false starts, seems a shame to ruin his Olympic dreams because the chain broke after less than a second.
