Not sure if posted, but these are the headphones Phelps has on before the races.

They look like beats by dre.

You missed a point - that Ye improved on her time from 2 years ago by 5 seconds. Of course, Ledecky, who improved on her PB by 5 seconds in the span of a month, isn't being called out by a US swimming coach. Nope, Ledecky was fueled by apple pie and gold old fashioned American grit. And Ledecky didn't come out of nowhere. Why, she appeared for the first time at the US swimming trials WAY back in July 2012. That's just over a month ago; she's been at this for years.
All natural!

wow, can you say mega doping?

Can the swimming enthusiasts clear something up for me? What is it about swimming, particularly on the women's side, that you have these 15 and 16 year olds winning so dominantly? I just finished watching the replay of the 800m women's freestyle and I would think for a long distance event like that, you'd need a few more years of training to be competitive. I mean, I come from a track and cross country background so anybody in their teens winning a long distance race at the olympics would be unbelievable.
Women mature faster than men, which may be why we see huge jumps in performance at a silghtly younger age for women. There's been some suggestion that younger females actually have the advantage over their older counterparts in terms of body fat % and distribution as well as other hormones. I would also guess that since women and becoming more and more involved in sport around the world, the pace of records being broken may accelerate a bit as more genetic freaks get involved (whereas the male events have had wider participation for a longer period of time, making the record breaking swims less dramatic). But that is just a guess on my part with no analysis to back it up. Short answer: I don't know.

I probably shouldn't have posted Ledecky's pic in my post because judging whether an athlete is clean or not from how he or she look tends to border on sexism when it comes to females. If she's ugly, she's doping. Hot, she's not. Ledecky has no obvious roid pimples or anything else to indicate she's on horse hormones, so there's really no point judging her based on her appearance. It wasn't my intention to do that, but it might've come off that way. That said, Ye's androgenous appearance (which IMO isn't particularly androgenous for a 16-year-old with short hair, no makeup, and in athletic shape) has attracted some attention, so perhaps including Ledecky's picture was warranted to make the parallel complete.

Why is ony the Chinese swimmer getting targeted? Missy Franklin is 6'1 170+ lb monster that is destroying world records, swims TWO finals in 14 mins yet is under no suspicion?

Interesting notes about USA swimming for this Olympics. Were on track for 4 more golds than we had in Beijing. The women especially have been significantly more successful.

EDIT: In fact this will be our most successful outing for swimming since 1972 if you discount 1984.

If any of them are doped, they are doped with some crazy next level shit that is invisible in the test and which leaves no typical outside marks.

But anyway

My Katie, what did they do to you!

Yep. All of the doping accusations thrown around this year are pretty toothless. All of the athletes are tested, so if they test clean but you think they're doing something that can't be detected, invent a new testing method instead of just talking in circles.

Can you somehow increase your height with drugs? If not, 170 lb is quite normal for a woman of her height.

You can take HGH while your pituitary gland is still active. That's what i did when I was 10 years old. I grew 7" in about a year, but now I'm 5'7" and am done growing. Would I be 5'0" if I didn't take HGH as a child? IDK

I am going to the Womans football Semi Final at Wembley on Monday and can't wait to go! I did catch the last 6 or so riders for the Cycling Road event but this should be good!

Goddamn....and she's only 17? I though she was a lot older. Makes me sad to know that even if I did intense swimming lessons/training since the age of 1, I would still suck compared to these olympians since I don't have freak genetics.

I think sprinters have the nicest bodies. Everything is ripped and proportional. The men gymnasts have noodle legs and the male swimmers look like Starscream.

They look like beats by dre.

I read an article that said they're giving away a bunch of Beats by Dre to athletes. It's causing some problems with them wearing them instead of headphones from whatever companies are sponsoring the various teams.

I just noticed an article that the US overturned a loss on appeal today for boxing? What a freaking joke.

You are correct, sir.

ESPN said:
After the American team protested the result, AIBA's competition jury reviewed the bout and ruled Vikas had committed nine holding fouls in the third round alone. He also intentionally spit out his mouthpiece in the second round, which should have resulted in at least four points of deductions.

Get this shit out of the Olympics. (If gymnastics and diving weren't huge draws, I'd say get rid of them too - judged sports have too much potential for things to go wrong.)

Hah, swimmers are thin and trim but the one thing they all have are extremely broad shoulders. Makes for a very impressive physique. Then again I'm a swimmer with broad shoulders so I'm biased

No way is Phelps going to be at Rio, Brazil in 2016 but it was nice watching the entire medal chase through the years

I bet he changes his mind 2-3 years from now and tries for a comeback. He drops the 400 IM, keeps the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, and relays. Maybe tries the 200 free again.

I've seen so many swimmers retire only to try for a comeback later. It's his bread and butter and why he's rich. Makes for another great story and payday 4 years from now.

I knew that when I saw NBC put up that Fab 7 interview at the beginning that they had nothing for the night lol. It's been nothing but fluff

Im with you, unless his post swim endeavors turn out to be successful.
