So is sport fully funded through the national lottery in our country, or is that just one of the primary sources?
After the amazing performance so far I really think we should be looking at increasing the investment so we can maintain and build on this - just look what it's done for cycling, and I would assume rowing too as we're great at that as well. Some of the track athletes really starting to benefit from it now too, we should make sure if a sport thinks it can improve but needs money, if we have the money then the sport gets it.
A lot of factors I'm not considering there like budgets and whatever, but now's not the time for rational thinking after today

Well, When you have 5x as many people you potentially have 5x as many athletes.
Population definitely plays a factor, It's part of the reason why China is dominating, and I suspect India will too in 10-20 years

Well apparently we massively overestimated our targets in the swimming, were predicted 7 medals but only got 3. Some more investment there could do some good, though there are rumours that funding could be cut in that area given our poor performance in the pool.
bullshit way to count medal standings.
But it's so useful to make sweeping assumptions. Spherical ducks in a vacuum and all that.
