I don't get it.. why are people here disappointed that this game isn't as hard as Souls games?.. this game isn't for Souls veterans, or people who are good at them.. this is for people for whom the Souls game are too hard, but they still want challenge from a game - Lords is a harder game than majority of modern games - so this game is directed exactly at those people.. this game wasn't never meant to be as hard as Souls games so that's not a flaw of the game just because you wanted to be it when it was meant for different type of players.. you can still enjoy the game.. I'm sure that I'm going to even as a fan of From Software games

You need a little context here. You find the Souls games easy because your skills are above average.
Souls games ARE difficult in comparison to most games released these days.
They aren't hard. Well maybe the first time you play. The reason I got Demon Souls was because everyone and their mom was talking about how "brutally difficult. . ." this new game was. It's not close to the hardest game anyone has ever played I'd imagine.
From what I have seen of LoTF, there looks to be a challenge. If someone set out to make a Dark Souls esque game with an actually competent narrative. . .by all means. Step up.

Well said. That's like expecting all FPS' after Doom to maintain the same nuances to have worth or saying that all platformers must be Mario. If we want more souls-type games to exist we have to accept them having variances. It will only result in better games for us. There's room in the market for multiple games of each genre if each of them are different enough.
I agree to an extent...what always made it hard for me is that certain bosses are relatively "cheap" and the trek back to them is filled with easy ways to die lose your experience. It's hard in that it doesn't let you bank your earnings
Yes and yes. Also it has some gorgeous visuals. Definitely next-gen.
The Souls games have always been as hard as you choose to make them. They give you the option to go down the easy path or the hard path. They give you the option to stock up on healing items/spells. They give you the option to grind. It's always been up to the player.
That said, I never expected this to be as hard or harder than the Souls games. Dark Souls-lite seemed to be written all over this title since its introduction.

This is exactly why I will get this one. On Demons, I just gave up at a certain point as I tried forever to get past a certain boss. Lords sings perfect for me.

might wait for a steam sale, but a dark souls with less customization doesn't sound like the game for me. But I know plenty of people that might appreciate a less complicated DS-like game

how are the bosses? Not just mechanically but also their designs? I saw bits of the game, and none of the art really drew me in. Are there any cool creature designs or stuff like that?
No I didn't get 5 gig patch. I got a tiny one which was like a couple of MB's
Yeah, I just want another take on the Souls formula. As Vaati said in his preview, the Souls series is pretty much genre defining and it is wonderful to see someone else branching off and taking a shot at doing something similar. The Souls series is what it is and I love it, but I have no problem making room for something that takes the formula, trims some fat and adds it's own little flavor to it.

I didn't say it was a flawless online experience, but it wasn't nearly as bad as what happened with the PC version. It's also kind of silly to get upset with failed summons or invasions since the frequency of them was so high that you had more successful attempts than failures.
Then again, maybe it was just a 360 problem. I played it on the PS3 and those issues only occasionally popped up, and XBL was generally better in most games.
Seriously? I think that some of the visuals are nice enough, but some of them look entirely like cross gen (even though the game isn't) or like they got really lazy with the texture work. The footage I've seen makes it easily comparable to Shadow of Mordor. The character and NPC/enemy models look very detailed, but much of the terrain and other objects are entirely dull or "balloony" like no effort was really put into them. And that is where I think the comments about it resembling Darksiders have any merit. Not in the actual character designs (it's "kind of" similar, but not really) or any of the gameplay but the way the architecture and terrain looks in many areas.
But that's not really saying much. When Demon's came out and they were touting it as an "old school" type game, they were exactly right. Before last gen there were a hell of a lot more games of a similar difficulty, and especially during the 8 bit days. All that seems to be happening is that more people are getting to experience things they were far too young to have enjoyed upon release (or simply were not gaming at that point), and ended up growing up on the much easier games of today before ever playing them. Who knows if this trend of looking backwards will continue, but I hope that it does.

Really looking forward to this. The souls games were amongst my favourite games last gen. Probably were the best games ive played. It was the combat that was one of the main factors that pulled me in. It was a refreshing change from all the button mashers we came to expect. Most of all it was fun and LOTF looks like it carries on that tradition. I don't have a problem with it being easier. I'm hardly a gaming zen so should find some challenge there.
Take mordor for example. I found that fairly tough at the start and then once powered up it went easy mode as I wasted orcs with ease but it still never dampened my enjoyment of it.
If it's 15 hours worth of fun with the potential for more then I'm all over it.

This thread turning into an argument about how hard the game should be is pretty pointless. And it's kind of becoming a super-masculine bragfest.
Everyone knows the Souls games are hard. There are bosses in Dark Souls 2 that are downright designed to be played with a phantom, even if it's an NPC phantom.
If you want a super-hard game, go play Super Mario 3. As long as Lords doesn't have a health system and checkpoints like Halo, most of us will be happy.

That reminds me, does Lords of the Fallen have social mechanics akin to the Souls games? Stuff like messages, bloodstains (to show how someone died), summonings/invasions, and even NPC persistence (where they can be killed permanently). Though I suppose without the difficulty it would be a little pointless to include...
The social elements of the Souls Games - as much as their well-designed levels and supreme challenge - are what make those games stand out so much. The continuous threat of invasion is stressful, and a definite part of the "Soulsian difficulty" and, at the same time, the social aspects were what balanced out the intense difficulty of the games. They acted as both guide and tutorial, all without a word... provided you could trust them.

I can't work this out either. I mean most games these days copy each other in some form. For me it can be as much like souls as it wants. After seeing previews last year I always maintained that if it was remotely like souls then I know I'll like it.
Souls fans are a touchy bunch.
9.8 gb on PS4 I believe... Really small considering the PC version I believe is 20gb+.
if that is actually how you select the difficulty (as in, that actually affects the world) and not just a simple way of saying "warrior is OP lol", then that is the DUMBEST thing ive ever heard in a action game, or action rpg, whatever it wants to call itself
and thats coming from someone that pre ordered and is looking forward to it

Every genre had a beginning. How can someone enjoy a specific genre yet criticize the games for having similarities? Action/Adventure or Action/RPGs have existed for a long while now, but the Souls games really do feel like their own genre, especially compared to most of what is out there now. I mean, what genre exactly would you place them under? They are basically Oldschool/Horror/Action/Adventure/RPGs. Although I guess technically this game does go a lot farther than just having similarities. Still not really seeing a problem with it yet though since it's only the first so far, and it also seems like a decent fix until Bloodborne.

No, it has nothing to do with difficulty. Don't worry - the developers themselves said that all three classes are balanced throughout the game - some bosses will be easier with rogue and some bosses will be easier with cler/warrior.
Generalizations are not a nice thing.
"Some Souls fans are a touchy bunch" would be appropriate and more accurate to the situation as some Souls fans are interested in the product.
thats fine, like I said, that falls in the category of "warrior is OP lol". Dude made it sound like the classes actually defined the game's difficulty in general which worried me
Im still excited for this, but I also think people expecting another dark souls are in for a rude awakening, the game looks much more linear from what ive seen

Not really, no. If that is the case, he would only play Monster Hunter (or PSO in that matter) and call other game in that genre as "clones".
What he doesn't like (mine also) is that the game try to "bandwagoning" or coattailing the popularity of already established game. Taking inspiration is fine, but when almost pre-release materials and previews always and only said Dark Souls, then I found it problematic because to me try so hard to be remembered as follower of Souls tradition, only to be disappointed by game later. If only the game cites Dark Souls as the main source of inspiration, then try to become its own thing, it is much better as I'll disappointed because the game's own fault, not because it isn't able to resemble Dark Souls as it claim to.
No, every class is the same. It's the armor that affects your rolls. Rogues use light armor at the beginning, but if you put points into strength and endurance, you can use heavy armor obviously. But it's all depended on armor. Warrior's start out with heavy armor in the beginning.
You can pretty much put points wherever you want. Starting class just defines starting attributes. There is no level cap as far as I know, so there's no stopping you from playing however you want. Only things you can't change are the spells, but those are chosen after class.
From the videos i have seen so far it does not seem like something i would play or anything like Souls games, in any of art, design or gameplay.
Sure gamers can still enjoy it, but is advertised as a Souls like game and this is not true in the slightest imo and totally misleading.
Could just be my area but damn, my GameStop is getting 1 copy for Xbox One (not reserved), and 2 for PS4 (one reserved, and its mine). Another store close to mine received no pre-orders for the game and got 1 copy of each version.
I think the game is going to be fun though. Can't wait to try it out.

What date is the official release date? I ask because GAME say friday, shopto say tuesday, what date in the US? as my copy ordered earlier has already dispatched out for me, in the uk.
I agree with this notion, but name dropping the game that would be the source of inspiration too often will only hurt your own game. It's very different when it said "The battle is inspired by Dark Souls" than "We follow the tradition of Dark Souls". The former means that it built upon the basic gameplay framework that Souls game have, while the latter implied it would follow to the little detail such as character design, lore, and storytelling. Sadly, it's much more the former since the latter doesn't really matched up with those generic fantasy design.
That because Lords of the Fallen owns fault for namedropping Dark Souls far too often than it needed to. The game fault wouldn't be what it fail to achieve, but rather how it fail to become (poor man's) Dark Souls.
Personally the thing that turned me off from the game isn't the difficulty, but the generic/WoW fantasy design.

A lot of games copy mechanics within the same genre, but I think you "muddy the water" when rating the game as good/bad based solely by comparing it to a game it is similar to. I have only watched footage of LotF, but as someone who has spent hundreds of hours on all Souls games, I know not to play LotF expecting the same experience.
