And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
"Dark Souls Clone" surely tickles my interest... on other hand I don't have much faith in the industry to deliver a product like DS.

Is the battle system an "awesome dude simulator" like Shadow of Mordor or something more... substantial?
Plenty of depth. From the info I've gathered, this game seems to be like a slower Souls. You've got plenty of risk reward situations and there's punishments involved although not as strict as Souls.

The purported size is what's required before you can play the game while it continues downloading in the background. Sony ought to make that clearer.

I don't think that's true. The Evil Within shows 34.6, that's the size of the whole game, Alien Isolation 17.3, Driveclub 14.7, Mordor 26, etc.

They are showing the size of the full game on all those titles. Why it would be different with Lords of the Fallen?

When I start playing games that I immediately see has lots of game depth, I instantly try to figure out everything before I even start to progress the game. Here's a list of things I'm going to be cleaning out of my depth-backlog as soon as I reach my first enemy that I can force-respawn.

- i-frames on fat/medium/light roll
- i-frames on fat/medium/light jump
- framerate, tearing (PS4)
- multiplier cap (does it exceed 2.0?)
- hit cancel animations and frame delays per weapon type
- timing on parries (how strict it is, compared to Demon's, Dark 1 and Dark 2)
- delay required before being able to backstab

If someone comes up with anything else they'd like me to try out, I'll gladly help out.

Probably a mistake, then. People were seeing ~3GB for Driveclub. Maybe pre-release titles show the download required for play and post-release ones the full size? That'd be a weird way to go about things, though.

I have been excited for it since the reveal. I am quite anxious to play another take on the Souls formula. And despite having a bunch to play and look forward to already, I will still likely have it on day 1 along with Sunset Overdrive.

Killing enemies gives you an XP and item multiplier (x1,02, x1,03 etc for each monster). This keeps going up (we don't know the cap yet) until you decide to level up - or if you die of course. The huge risk reward gameplay is excellent.

well that sounds amazing to me.
Thank u sir!

This is right up my alley. Souls frustrates the hell out of me. So much so that I've not finished either of the ones I've played.

The Steam store page mentions "partial controller support". Anyone know what that's supposed to mean?

I dont see anything that relates to Souls games, they miss nearly everything that makes Souls titles so cool, like the purpose, story, atmosphere, unique art, hard combat etc

This seems like a good action title, among the many others like it and i hate the art so far (besides the cool video)

The hype is about zero right now for me

I still focus all my powers to find time to play Dark Souls 2, so all my hype is spent there :)

Despite the gameplay looking like a late-to-the-party Dark Souls with a less consistent atmosphere and less creative enemy design, I am ready enough to play a next-gen hack-and-slasher type game that I will play this if the reviews turn out favorable.

Admittedly, however, Bloodborne and Dragon Age being on the horizon lessens my hype for any given next-gen fantasy game. I would have bought this outright were it earlier in the generation, I almost bought that game from the Mars: War Logs people out of a need for some next-gen RPG.

So, they just said after NG++ the games basically ends.

I actually don't have a problem with this. The enemy scaling in Dark Souls 2 is so stupid. After NG++ I pretty much had to use the best weapons in the game and any hit I took would do an absurd amount of damage. I even used a trainer and put my guy to max level and enemies just have way too much health that makes things far too tedious for a game I've already beaten. Most of the new items from the DLCs weren't even viable to use anymore since they're so weak after NG++

So after telling myself I wouldnt, I decided to watch the lobos video...

The devs need to crank up dat damage. Everything about the game is amazing... I need it in my veins. But so far, watching him play with the warrior class, the enemies are doing no damage to him at all.

Thats all they need to do for me to be happy. Turn up the enemies attack frequency, and their damage.

Do we know if the game has difficulty settings?

LobosJr (known for his Dark Souls challenge runs), just uploaded a 5 hour gameplay vid on his youtube channel:

Naturally, he's approaching it from a Souls players' perspective, and he seems to enjoy it. I think it's looking pretty great.
Looks so good. Glad I stumbled onto this thread since I almost forgot this game was a thing. Let alone a thing that comes out in less than 2 weeks.

Not sure if this is the right topic for this but has it been stated if the soundtrack that is included with the Limited Edition(aka first print) is a physical disc or download code? One of the pics I saw showed a physical disc but you never can tell these days.

I thought the same, but I saw some later areas later in the dev stream and it seemed much tougher. I assume it's just a much gentler difficulty curve compared to Souls. Also, the rogue seems much more susceptible to damage... another reason to pick it! Still, I wouldn't expect it to be too challenging if you're a Souls veteran.

It does not.

jumped around a bit in that 5 hour video, game looks good, definately doing that dark souls thing (or trying to). is there any sort of mage class?

I can't get over the main character design, especially how they keep plastering him everywhere as if he's supposed to be appealing.

I have no hype for this game because my hype-ometer is broken, my three most awaited games this year ranged from terrible to okay. The hype is most certainly not with me at the moment.

This game being really good would be a great surprise.

If you are going to copy something Dark Souls isn't far from being the best choice.

Not bad. The video did give me a better perspective of what to expect of the game, and I kind of liked it. Interesting leveling risk/reward system.

It still does look quite uninspired in the graphical designs (pretty light effects though), and those "lore records" felt extremely boring, but I can see myself playing this game. But likely next year, once bugs have been fixed and the inevitable balancing patches have been deployed.

Looks cools. Some things about the video:

  • He said that it was a Demo build. So I hope that the damage was lowered, because if not, is super easy.
  • There is a lot of decision making, that's cool. I hope that affect the story in the future.

It looks really good, but is anyone else put off by the lack of flinch animations? The character is just wailing on people, and they only really pretend to notice if its some form of crit hit or explosion, really takes me out of the game, and adds to the overall floaty feeling.

Just watched a bit of it, looks like Dark Souls without the jank. Hope it turns out good, though. The dude got hit by a huge sword by a boss and just flinched slightly with damage numbers coming out of him, that looks stupid and is kinda dumb. I liked that part of Dark Souls, made combat more challenging, looks baby mode easy now.

Yeah for some reason Warrior starts with way too much armor and poise. He can literally just swing through people's attacks with little to no downside. I hope that gets fixed or there is no point to play a rogue who can die in 2 hits from the first boss.
