Lords of the Fallen- Hype??

yeah, really. what does hype ever get us? it gets us titanfall, watch dogs, and destiny, each one equating to shit times twenty. fuck hype.

I actually enjoy all those games though despite them being over hyped. Screw the hype and appreciate them for what they are is what I say. I try that best I can to make my own conclusions and enjoyment on things on my own. Although I do understand how the media and stuff can build a game up to be more than it is.

I don't think it matters what the release date is. I just don't see this game doing well commercially unless it gets strong reviews and good word of mouth. From what I've seen, it looks like a game that looks good technically, plays well for the most part, has a solid UI...but in the end it's just...boring. There's just nothing compelling about it and it seems to lack its own identity. The name is also really poor. Being Souls-inspired isn't good enough.

Yes I'm hyped for it.

Dark Souls clone, I'm interested.

Guy who did The Witcher 2? I'm probably in. Game looks great.

Yeah I have a big feeling this one will be a sleeper hit. Not every game needs crazy amounts of hype though, that can obviously damage the game ala Destiny, but from what I've seen of Lords it looks to be a great action RPG that will give me a run for my money.

I was originally annoyed at the enemy feedback when being hit, but a recent gameplay video showed me the devs seemed to have added that in which instantly changed the atmosphere.

I'd rather get this face design than the horror show/dumb type faces of Dark Souls series. Also just from the videos I can tell the combat looks less clunky too.
If the game is good I'll get it down the line. Too many things to play recently.

wouldn't surprise me if this turned out to be a nice sleeper hit. From some of the previews it sounds like they've captured a lot of what made the souls games great and given it a really shiny awesome look (IMO).

I was really disappointed by DS2 but am looking forward to this. Not gonna Day 1 it but will be glued to gaf for reviews and thoughts. Week 2 if it turns out to be good.

Should have enough time to beat it and Bayonetta 2 before Dragon age Inquisition comes out.

ha ha ha ha

Yeah, faces make the game!

The constant comparisons to dark souls along with the game looking nothing like dark souls whatsoever makes me extremely skeptical about the games quality and confused about what the fuck the game actually is.

I completely forgot about this one, to be honest. Lack of marketing really does that.

Looks good though. Not sure I'll pick it up just yet, but I wouldn't mind doing so later on.

I am going to get it if the reviews are decent (or if I'm impressed by videos). I have too many games as it is.

And Bloodborne is right around the corner.

I'm excited for this game, but I'll wait for reviews.

I love "weighty" combat, main character looks great (for some reason, I'm getting Warhammer vibes), graphics look really good and the entire gameplay looks solid.

Only thing I don't like so far is that enemies don't flinch when you hit them. While I understand that some gigantic boss or enemy won't allow you to get him into some kind of stun-lock, lesser foes should stagger when hit, at least with a heavy weapon. At least, that's my understanding from what I read about this game so far, somebody who played it, feel free to correct me.

Some enemies do in fact react to hits, you can see it in some of the videos that are out there. Also, there are plenty of enemies in the souls games (and many other games) that don't react to your hits, I don't understand this worry/complaint.

Anyways, I am just as hyped for this as I am for Dragon Age, which is why I'm glad Dragon Age got postponed lol. They chose a pretty bad release date though, I hope it sells well...

I remember a lot of people saying similar things to what is being said in this thread about Dragons Dogma. And they were completely wrong, with it being for me the best RPG of last gen which I don't say lightly. A lot of people owned up to making a mistake on that game. A game without media hype or a shit ton of money advertising it can do well off word of mouth.

I hope for similar results. :)

Well I hope the game is good but there's a big difference between dragon's dogma and this: the developers' pedigree. Itsuno and his team developed DMC3 and 4. The guys behind Lord of the Fallen on the other hand? We know a couple of them worked at CDProjekt but that's about it (and that wouldn't tell us much... TW2 isn't good because of its gameplay and this game seems like it's all about the gameplay), and it's being published by a publisher known for pushing out complete turds. Now I'm not writing the game off straight away, but I'm taking the careful approach and I think a lot of other people are doing the same thing.

Well, I guess you alleviated my main concern. Thanks! :D

Souls games aren't actually that long, nor massive. They seem massive, especially if you explore every nook and cranny, but the games can be beaten in a matter of hours, if you're good.

That's the brilliance in my eyes. The games feel like Metroid in that regard.

Oh, I guess I'm interested. I'll wait til it gets a good deal on Steam, though.

This game is, more or less, completely linear, though.

] I didn't have any choice over my weapons though, and I'm not sure if that's something that will be available in the full version or not.

There are different armors, weapons, spells, etc -- there are a couple of gameplay videos that show various weapons, armors, spells.

This game seems like an arcade version of Dark Souls. It looks pretty awesome.

Not even remotely comparable with the freshness and uniqueness of Dragon's Dogma.

Really bad example.

If you're going to offer character customization yeah it's kind of important that you be able to make decent looking characters. Character customization being bad is a serious flaw of the souls games.

I made pretty good looking characters in all Souls games, especially Dark Souls II.

I'm always puzzled when people say things look generic. Totally looking forward to this one but will probably wait out for at least a review or two.

I am hype as hell. My most anticipated game this fall probably:

-exciting new IP from a new team (how often does that happen?)

-first AAA non-From Dark Souls inspired game

-Next Gen & PC Only meaning no compromise for last gen

-Smart looking design decisions to set it apart (like buffing from your dropped XP)
THIS + talked to dev for about 30 min, played a bit back in August it was fantastic.
Looks REALLY REALLY GOOD.

This game will be the bomba AAA game of the fall but will be the a lot of LTTP threads next year and will missed gems of 2014.

Also sadly the dev will bust by this time next year.

Confirmed having a 3 day-session once this gets released on a Friday. Gonna be awesome.

It's directly inspired by it in practically every way except I guess art style. I really hope that's not your sole criteria for judging whether games should be compared to one another.

I think it's reasonable to be skeptical about this game, but I've still got my eye on it. Reminds me of Darksiders in more ways than one - I wasn't sure if that game would be total ass or pretty decent. But it ended up surpassing all expectations I had, and was one of my favorite games last gen.

An action RPG with hard difficulty what is so hard about that? Why does every game have to have a label. Souls series didn't invent 3rd person action or unforgiving gameplay.

I wouldn't call it a "serious flaw". It's one of the most, if not the most irrelevant aspect of the games. And it's decent enough. It doesn't render the game unplayable or anything. That would be a serious flaw.

I think a large reason for the lack of hype is

1. Very little marketing, even when we are so close to release.

2. Game just looks GENERIC AS FUCK.

3. Every time I hear someone talking about the game, they mostly say it's like "X" Game + "Y" Game. It doesn't sound unique. EDIT: Heck, even you said it's like Dark Souls X Darksiders :D

4. That main character just looks bad.

5. They haven't shown anything that's genuinely extra-ordinary or great to get the hype going.

Many of these same complaints were made against Shadow of Mordor.

They chose a terrible date.

This looks like my type of game but there are just many other games comming that I simply want more.

I'm interested but not hyped. This was one of the few games I was interested in for the rest of the year, GTAV is the other.

Then I unexpectedly picked up Shadow of Mordor and liked it, but I'm still considering getting this one too.

Wish them success with this game, looks like they put alot of effort into it. Sucks theres not that much marketing. Gonna pick it up sooner or later.
