is it really necessary to use the camera with move for MAG?

wouldn't the accelerometer stuff work fine?

just really dislike the idea of shifting on the couch affecting the way the game handles
You really need a camera. It's just that Wii has the camera on the remote, the Move has the camera on the TV.

well, i think escalation is the best 8 bucks i ever spent on dlc. i have been playing it non stop since it came out. i finally vetted out of valor and decided to try my hand at easy mode (sver). anyway, question for you experts (what happened to click by the way, perma-ban? and what for?). the steady aim skill describes it being for scoped assault rifles. does this count the red dot or just the 4x. i looked through a red dot last night and saw no wandering at all. leads me to believe it is just for the 4x. i am actually contemplating trying the shotgunner loadout. i figure if you can't beat em join em.

Finally going to jump into this over the weekend, all going well. Any suggestions/recommendations? Going to take me some time to get used to playing with the Move as well.

upgrade to a medkit with fully upgraded resuscitation as soon as possible. i usually do that before anything else so you can get max points from rezzing people to help level up. also, your teammates will be happy that when you rez them they get full health instead of partial.

Thanks for that. I love playing support classes, so that sounds ideal for me.

Can't decide between S.V.E.R. and Raven at the moment. S.V.E.R. sounds the coolest of the three factions, but aren't they also at a massive advantage? Daft as it may sound, that makes me much less likely to pick them. :p

Best part is that it's a support ability, not just a class. So any type of soldier can carry one, and should, since it helps a LOT. I always curse that one guy who runs past me doing nothing because he has no med kit. :\

I'm on Raven right now, there's a decent number of players in that PMC.

downloaded the updates and booted it back up after a like 6 month leave haha. Holy crap they changed so much (just in the armory) the skill points and weapons and eveything. So much is different, jeeze!

One of the biggest changes is the currency point thing, you basically have to purchase your weapons, gear, and everything. It's a nice change though, and generally things work out to be in line with your levels (for the most part). Nice that you can sell stuff off that you're not using.

Well I finished my tour with RVN (again) and jumped back to SVR (again)

Level 25 now and sporting the shotgun and almost fully have my Medical specked out. Also one point away from fastest sprint speed. Looking forward to getting the sensor jammer @ 40.

Oh if there's a good clan hit me up please- I keep getting invites but do not know who to join.

So I finally played some of this last night. Just some suppression, as I try to get used to the game and playing an FPS with the Move, but damn is the game confusing - the manual tells you next to NOTHING about the HUD! I levelled to four and have specced into Medical, with the second point in resuscitate as suggested, but it took me some time to work out HOW to resuscitate (it's L1, right?) and I still haven't worked out how to tell from the HUD who needs healing or ressing.

I'm not sure if the white cross above their heads indicates they need assistance or that they have medic capabilities themselves! Is there a guide to the UI anywhere, or a tips/tricks article that someone could recommend?

Obviously playing with the Move didn't help the overall experience, it would have been a lot easier if I were just struggling with the game and not with the controls as well, but I think switching to the DS3 to get used to it all might end up being counter-productive.

Enjoyed what I played though - mostly full games, didn't notice any significant lag and never waited more than a few seconds to get into a game. ^_^

EDIT: It doesn't answer all of the questions I have, but I found this Mag 2.0 guide, which looks useful. Most of the other guides I've found haven't been updated for 2.0. :(

Played some more last night, jumped into Acquisition to get a feel for the objective based play and had a bit of a mixed night. I'm still getting used to the Move (Tried changing from the standard competitive settings to TTPs recommendation last night and quickly changed back), but I felt like I was a little more successful in combat given the disadvantage I'm at (I seem to be playing with people a lot higher level than I am).

My main concern is still the HUD, it's crazy that there's no reference for what's what in the HUD. This is what I think I have worked out at the moment:

  • Blue dots are my faction
  • Blue arrows are my squad
  • My squad leader has a gold star above him (Why is this not reflected on the map?)
  • Red dots need to die
Is there any visible indicator of when my first aid kit is recharged, without me needing to switch to it?

Also, I bought all three resuscitation upgrades and the game didn't tell me I needed to buy a medical kit... which I don't have enough CP for! Getting CP/XP at the moment is proving tough because the only means of getting them I have is by killing things, and I'm pretty shitty at that currently. :p

Hopefully when I have the medical kit I can start to contribute more.

Your leader it's the one with the red line next the name,
The star it's for veterans.
No, there is no indicator for the 1st aid, but after a while it will be easy to guess when it's ready again.

The medical kit is pretty cheap so it' will be not a big problem :)

BTW, MAG is pretty harsh for the new comers, confusing and frustratring when the competion is way more accesible and rewarding with all those little numbers and credits like a waterfall :)
But ,really, keep going, after the 1st few hours the game will shine.

Fret not, it's that level of depth that appealed to me in the first place. I detest CoD. ^_^

I play on SVER mostly, I'm playing in a clan called [D2] or Digital Deviants. Only been with them for a week but they don't seem to bad. Last night there was 17 of us on and usually seems to average around 10 so there's usually a group going.

Moved into Acquisition earlier and finally managed to get my medical kit. Everyone carries one though it seems, so each time I would head towards an injured/downed team-mate he was back up to full before I got there! :lol :'(

So we're back to me sucking with the Move. :p

Still, the nature of Acquisition means that I'm getting a lot more XP per match so I can look into other skills and items. Should I fully max out the medical tree, or look towards a tree that might keep me alive a little longer now (i.e. Resistances)?

What Click told me to do was I believe get Medical up enough to where you can revive fully, then go to resistances and lastly go to weapons.

That's what I did and it worked out pretty well. Starting with Medical helps a lot with getting points.

this works very well. and i always grab the first quicker reload skill pretty early. i focus pretty much on med tree, resistances (go for max health as quick as possible), and spec ops (for acoustic locator and motion sensor once i get to a high enough level) first. then i finish off with assault rifle skills, athleticism so i can get the max movement speed (not sprint), and close quarters (knife skills) last. some day i am going to try out a shotgun or lmg setup but i can't seem to stop running with my assault rifle and motion sensor.

Thanks for the pointers. Any recommendations on gear? At the moment I've only bought the medical kit - CP seems pretty hard to come by so I don't want any wastage!

grab a red-dot/reflex scope for sure. if you want to go stealth, definitely grab a suppressor/silencer. i like the acoustic locator at lower levels and the motion sensor at higher ones. but be warned, the motion sensor is quite pricy. as click mentioned above, don't worry about a foregrip (on assault rifles at least, i don't know about lmg's) since they aren't needed on an ar after 2.0. oh, also, about that motion sensor. it is pretty heavy. don't plan on carrying much if you have a red dot and a suppressor on your ar unless you are using the lightest armor. now as for the other equipment, i don't really know. i basically run the above loadout only. other users can help with the other builds i'm sure. i know the lmg is quite popular as is the shotgun. if you look back to the last page, click gives some great advice on smg loadout. i think he used the smg with both a motion sensor and a sensor jammer.

yes, definitely worth 6 bucks. i paid full price at launch and have put in close to 80 hours with no sign of quitting anytime soon. but that is just my opinion. you may hate it. but isn't a rental like 6 bucks. you could probably sell it for 10 if you didn't like it.

might as well post in here also.

if anyone wants in the sver gaf clan ( its the original one lol, i dont know if someone remade it) pm me your name and ill invite you. i forgot click or someone made me a leader during launch lol

Hmm, seems like they changed a lot since I had the game back in March(?). I guess I can give it another chance. I do like the skill tree. Man I can't imagine how long it's going to take to update a vanilla copy. :lol

Any ideas?

Not sure how long will the update take, but it's a vastly different game than it was back on Launch.

the patch is live yeah, bravo Zipper for the continued support, you guys did add/fix/change so much for free... but a real shame the European server seems to be offline most of the time so I just stopped playing instead of fighting lag-related frustration (put around 350+ hours into it anyway).

edit: the patch weighs 50 MB on booting the game + 650 on rebooting

Finally XMB screenshots are back, kudos to Zipper.

I could understand removing them from the later (open) beta builds, but it should have been back at release (things like this also heavily suggest this feature doesn't take from a game's resources anyway) so we could document some nice GAF games.

Wow, they finally put screenshot capability back.
No more need to bust out my digicam whenever I own people, lol.

I should play MAG again...

Screenshot time! (click for original image)

Mulitqueue works really well, if you're not looking for a specific mode you get connected much faster.
Does someone know what the numbers are representing?

lol at the low player count for Sabotage, it used to be 3k+ per faction, fucking CoD...
can you still play a full 256p Domination game ?

Only used the multi queue option, but yeah I think so. I was even able to play the addon mode as you can see in some of the screen. I think it's ok considering that's mostly EU, then there was a PS3 firmware update today, MAG update, middle of the week, GT5 etc. Might check again this weekend
(playing GT5 at the moment as well)

They represent the current number of players queue'd up for that Queue from your faction.

thanks, makes sense

I picked this up today. Just wondering though, would I need the DLC in order to play it?

Not really, maybe in your later levels they might be interesting as they give you new maps/game modes and I think still the very helpful exp multiplier. Though the first addon is kinda dead, the second, Escalation, seems to have longer legs and was much more positively recognized (and it's simply neat because all 3 fractions can play on the same map).
There is some small, free DLC though, too.

btw., The first (or even both) addon should be offered to PS+ users for free in the near future, just so the mode can get a few more players.

So I just got this. I wasn't really planning on buying it, but it's $10 at Gamestop right now and I figured it would be worth it if only for the Move support.

I'm prepared to be overwhelmed, I only briefly played the beta. So, what faction should I join?

SVER if you want some good teamplay.
Valor for the best weapon in the game.
Raven for the good balance in the defensive maps.

BTW SVER.

I played for a little bit.

Just getting to a game was a nightmare. The first patch was just 48mb, but the in-game update took forever and the installation part was insanely long...and the first time I tried, it had an error at 77% so I had to do it all over again. Not a great way to start out a game.

I joined SVER first but I could not get in a match, I would sit there for several minutes in a queue but nothing would happen so I deleted that and joined Raven. Took a few more minutes but I FINALLY got a match like 90 minutes after I put the game in my PS3. What a buzz kill. Anyways, it seemed alright, I like the Move controls but it can be tough to make quick turns and adjustments with it. I would have played more, but by then it was late and I was fuckin soured on the game for the night.

This in addition to the not-so-fun gameplay (in before MAG thread kills me) is what killed my hype for the game during the beta. It just wasn't... fun... for me, and the teamwork wasn't there for me to see if it was actually good despite the terrible gunplay/gameplay or not. The insanely long patcher (didn't they say they fixed this?) in the Host Shots Golf 5/Out of Bounds patcher style just killed the game further for me.

Edit: The Queue system shouldn't take forever. But it really depends on the left playerbase in addition to the team/factions. If you're going for 128/128 (256?) players in a game, you're going to have to expect to take a few minutes before the game starts as it has to find those players online to fill the two factions slots. I didn't care for this, but it was reasonable.

The smaller 64 player games should be easier to find and matchmake into.

Imagine how people are going to feel on Xmas day when they get GT5 for Xmas. The servers will be getting hammered and you're expected to download 3 updates. :D

Anyway, just saw that the 2.10 patch is out, downloading now and keen to give this a try later. I said I was going to after I got 2.0 but then I got hooked on Table Tennis. I did try one round of MAG but after a 6-7 month hiatus, it felt like I was the n00b again and was taking me awhile to get used to the controls.

So I have the sudden inexplicable urge to play a tactical shooter for the first time in YEARS. Would this be my best bet for ps3, or should I wait for SOCOM (or another series)? How is the gunplay in this? Is there a good selection of real weapons? I've read through and seen a lot of mixed views, and I played the beta VERY briefly myself, but any further objective advice would be greatly appreciated!

MK46 Mod1.
It has the best balance between: damage, recoil, rate of fire, stability, spread.
And it looks deadly. ;)
I've rolled a valor chara just to use this weapon.

BTW go SVER if you want to enjoy MAG, it's a bit i'm not playing between COD,GT5, Dead Nation, but i think it should be the same old story with Valor: a bunch of very good players in a sea of clueless noobs.
