I guess the liquid type guy in Doflamingo's crew may be some kind of Snot/Mucus based DF. Some people have pointed out that he appears to have a runny nose, Baby 5 is repulsed by him, and his sound effects in the chapter usually go along with snot.
Doflamingo's crew really seems to have some interesting(odd) DF's.

Yeah, but at the time most of BW came off as sort of joke characters.
A fight between a snot logia and Chopper could be pretty comical though.

Soma has to be one of the happiest characters in awhile. Outcome was definitely expected really but the tastes testers, the dudes especially made the food just seem like it tasted oh so good. I wish I could taste. For the future, thank goodness he didnt join the Don RS, was afraid that might happen but if he can explore even more clubs and help them out that'd be good too, though maybe he will start his own.
I wonder if this will get big enough to get its own festival making many of the dishes in the series. 23 pgs next chapter will be wonderful, no color page?

I like how despite the whole Food Battle element, its breaking down into a generic harem featuring Food Tsundere as the probable victor.
Also, isn't there some kind of really shitty aesop in this whole, "defeat me and I'll love you" trope?

Unlike most shounen cooking manga, food in Soma are actually rather conservative and normal. Chaliapin steak is a commonly known and etablished recipe in Japan, and the nifty "tricks" he used were all pretty conventional stuff, just unexpected to be used in a don.

Just like a sandwich, it's a single combined dish and not considered separate entree, so the balance between the toppings, the sauce, and rice is crucial to a good don.

It's specifically in an donburi (where the name don comes from) and the toppings can be anything, as long as it goes well with the rice. There are seafood dons too you know.

The manga is written by and for Japanese audience, who know what a don is.
Explaining a don is like an American comic book explainng what a hamburger is lol.
Imagine Tony Stark stopping in his tract to explain what a cheeseburger is upon returning home! lol
EDIT: Oh, and a little trivia. Weekly Shounen Jump is more than a little responsible for associating with the popularity of beef don. Kinnikuman back in the 80s popularized the gyu-don (beef donburi) in TV ads and its show, and it became a national success, propelling Yoshinoya (a giant don restaurant chain) to massive food chain giant and cement itself as one of the cornerstone of fastfood in Japan.

I'm more referring to the translators. Usually if something is super foreign they will put in a note explaining what it is.
Ah gotcha. Yeah, a TN would be nice for manga like this.

I don't think the US version's TOC has any relevance to the popularity of the series. I think that's just the order they print it in.

I don't like the fact that his first Food Battle had him quitting the school as the challenge. He obviously wasn't going to lose at that point. Its not like it was implausible he could get owned otherwise since he's just some new punk.

Hey you're right about that. I hope going forward he doesn't get those as his challenge anymore.
It would at least allow him the possibility to lose other then those terrible "lose to the antagonist in a non-direct way just before the real fight" stuff that these series love to do.

I don't really like the fact that so far he's just a super Ace with no real flaws beyond making shitty experiments (which so far appears to just be a sight gag). Granted, I'm probably putting too much analysis into something we're calling Food Smut. (you can't call it Food Porn because that means something else. There is Food Porn in here as well, actually)
So far she's displayed the most impressive adaptability to Soma's shenanigans. The complete opposite of Erina

Hmm, it really does look like HQ is adopting the "Kuroko system" of having a main duo (the main guy and his best friend) for every team. Not sure how I feel about that.
Because of this chapter I'm also really afraid that (like Kuroko, haha) Hinata will be reduced to coming up with new moves every time his current thing gets countered. Fortunately it doesn't look like we're heading there, since this time they can just come up with a different sign or randomly decide to switch the 2 keywords.

Probably not. As Naked-Apron-Guy said during their challenge, Souma doesn't really have much else to bet with at the moment. I'm sure that if/when he starts his own club stuff for that (budget, members, appliances, clubroom etc.) will be put at stake. That will allow him to lose with having actual "consequences" and allows for Souma to think up some inventive cooking techniques to deal with not having, for example, a good oven.

I wouldn't be too afraid of the duo's on teams, at least just yet. So far I like the different strengths of the teams(blocking team, receiving team, Aobajousai with it's spike/setter combo) and I especially liked "The Brain" twist(if it can be considered that) as it went into the idea of a decent team with one piece excelling them to being better than they are.
I also really hope they don't go into Hinata learning something new each time he's countered. Him learning a feint or being able to aim for a tip should be the extent of his progression for the most part. Let the guy at least learn to receive and pass the ball first. :/
I sincerely hope that matches will not just rely on the main duo.

It's already set up for the other setter to come in at some point. Plus they've set up for the other 1st year to eventually be a good/special server.
I really can't see it focusing only on Hinata and Kagayama. I think a lot of it will depend on the strength of the other team. With Aobajousai it's serve/setting so it's focusing on Nimaya's recieve(only once so far though) and Kagayama's sets.
