hey if you can recommend me more real lgbt manga i'm all for that too
i love the more grounded stuff too. moreso, i would say.
It's not manga but I'd suggest reading Blue Is the Warmest Color.

I honestly don't get why you guys are so obsessed with the fluffiest yuri you can find. It's more often than not romanticized and vapid fluff aimed at horny men.
I honestly don't get why you guys are so obsessed with the fluffiest yuri you can find. It's more often than not romanticized and vapid fluff aimed at horny men in a country where actual gay people are oppressed as hell and justified on the theory that young homosexuality is some kind of phase.
It's the same reason I was pissed off at the plot twist in Fuuka where Mikasa turned out to be straight - the idea that you just "grow out" of being gay and return to heteronormative conforming values seems completely off to me.
I'm not sure how you could not understand my position without being willfully ignorant. It's not a difficult argument to unpack. If a country is still pretty backwards towards gay rights, what does looking down upon inoffensive stories of gay relationships achieve? I don't get your position. While I wouldn't call the manga industry some all-powerful weapon in the battle of rights for minorities, positive depiction in media, in this case manga, is always good for building up acceptance in the mainstream consciousness. Not to mention, the vast majority of the so-called vapid yuri stories you're criticizing don't play off homosexuality as some sort of phase, but just as a pure-hearted love between girls.
Maybe read better series than Fuuka, or anything by the hack Seo Kouji. I suggest My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness and Our Journey to Lesbian Motherhood, since you seem to be invested towards the depiction of realistic lesbian relationships.

What is it with this series and random tone shifts that makes me feel like I missed a couple dozen chapters? What the fuckMousou Telepathy 417
Oh god. We're at this part. Will pick this back up after this arc is over.
Or the following scene where the weird alien tries to merge with Yuri by stalking her by night and trying to drop his spit/sperm? into her mouth. Totally innocent!

I mean, it's fine not to agree with an argument but the whole "pretending the argument is literally unintelligible" thing is disingenuous. If your position is "Hurr durr horny nerds", then I agree, you'd need a good measure of willful ignorance to take it.
Otherwise, just enjoy the fun stories, or let others enjoy it, alright? They're harmless, I promise.

Except everyone else readily understood the idea that I felt like the genre is exploitative in a way that isn't true in countries where gay relationships are more accepted as a real life thing because homosexuality isn't just a random fetish.Probably because there's not much of an argument to begin with.

I literally got pissed off about how they treated the gay character in it last week. And I don't disagree that a lot of stuff, even the stuff I read is exploitative in an uncomfortable way.I feel the same way about the garbage harem manga that tend to posted here from time to time. The shameless pandering, idiotic and repetitive plot contrivances, girls completely devoid of humanity, inherit sexism and main characters who are solely defined by their ability to facilitate self inserting make these manga unbearable. These stories are even worse than fluffy yuri, because while the fluffy yuri manga are total nonsense, the harem manga feed into the shitty otaku escapism that deny reality.
You should be pissed about Fuuka in general. It's total garbage.

I'm not saying you don't have a fair point, I'm saying exploitation of gay relationships in otaku culture is more specifically weird and uncomfortable for me.Then let me turn it on you; why do you read that stuff then?

Yeah, that's fair too. Everyone's got their own set of tolerances. But even though I personally abhor harem manga, I totally get why someone would want to read one. There's a very distinct appeal in reading that kind of story.
It's the exact same shit with fluffy yuri manga too. And I dunno, in a thread that's relatively relaxed and loose with manga (let's be honest, we read a lot of garbage), statements like "why do you like vapid fluff" feels entirely redundant. Especially when Aunt's Tits was a thing. (That manga sucked ass btw)
Fluffy yuri is a subset of furry yuri, typically involving animals with lighter body hair. It's generally frowned upon for its unrealistic depictions of romance between creatures that would usually be eating each-other's organs.Sorry to interject, halfway through a conversation no-less. But what are we saying when we say; Fluffy Yuri. Do you mean the cute, quaint ones, or am I missing something?

You can just say that you don't agree without being disingenuous about what is being talked about;
it comes off more like you just don't want anyone to be critical of things you like. It's okay to discuss ideas on a message board. It's harmless, I promise.
Attendee3: Does the GLBT community in Japan embrace yaoi and yuri manga?
Erica Friedman: Think of it this way: out of all of the people in the U.S., how many of them are comics fans? Not a lot. It's like that in Japan too. The lesbians who like manga are a very small part of the lesbian population, who are already a very small part of the Japanese population. So how do they feel about it? They like it lots. (laughs) If you want to find out more about it, follow my lesbian manga-ka list on Twitter.

Check out Shimanami Tasogare.
I'm surprised I haven't seen it mentioned here.
Attack on Titan
I feel like it's been literally the better part of a year since we saw what the actual cast is doing.
Oh wait that's because it is an we just get to see Reiner moping all day long and a ton of flashbacks that aren't actually as necessary as Isayama seems to think they are. At least not in this quantity.
I'm not saying you don't have a fair point, I'm saying exploitation of gay relationships in otaku culture is more specifically weird and uncomfortable for me.
That's not an example of that genre, just how I feel like gay issues are sometimes treated like a temporary disorder in manga in general.Your initial example is Fuuka though, which while I haven't read as far as I know is a far cry from most works in the Yuri genre.
It'd probably make more sense if you used an example thats actually a Yuri manga.

Does Devils Line have an official English translation? I've been meaning to add it to my collection but never got round to seeing if anyone sold it.

Probably not what you're looking for but:Any more suggestions? I'm still searching for one of these stories.
I wouldn't disagree, but I'd also say you'd struggle to find an example of that in the vast majority of contemporary yuri manga. Even the ones that are specifically aimed at men.
