This might be my breaking point. I feel like I need a shower after this.

Guys, vile filth is just vile filth. It isn't secretly good or deep. The fact that Hot House exists doesn't make lesser vile filth and less vile and useless.
Porn is porn. Its reason for existing is to titillate and excite people. Some people like some really, really strange stuff. If it makes them happy, and it isn't harmful to others, who am I to argue with them?

That said, you shouldn't do things like compare Kana: Little Sister to War and Peace. Understand why you actually like it, and move on.

I'm not sure if I want to meet the person who's actually titillated by hot house.

It is interesting though. Sometimes it's just fun to explore the depths of human depravity.

The guy who does Hot House/Drainage City does do some pretty interesting art. It's definitely worth seeing the various ways he deconstructs the human body if you have the stomach for it.

So going by the translators post it appears that the only thing missing is an extra chapter from the volume. Do you know if it's important, Lain? Am I missing any relevant plot details? Will Tsuchida find true love or is he doomed to be forever alone especially now that Narugami got Eiko and by default Moe.

Nah, the extra story is a one shot that has nothing to do with the main story. It's sweet though (maybe a bit too sweet) and funny, so I hope it'll get translated.

Bleach shipping is an order of magnitude more vile than anything in Hot House.

I used to get you two confused all the time when I first started posting here.

I honestly can't fathom the reason some of this shit exists since I find it highly unlikely the dudes in this thread actually have the fetishes you'd need to like this stuff.

Probably the same reason guro came about in the first place. Some people enjoy "the deviant, the bizarre, and the ridiculous," to quote Wikipedia.

Another one of those purchases where the cover art influenced my decision, since I didn't really know what the story was about.

The story starts with a nameless robot getting thrown away by his former master and follows him as he scrambles first to find new batteries to keep "living" and then to find a new master. A search that brings him to a sad end and to a new beginning when Nina finds, repairs and names him Hoshikuzu (Stardust).
After this point the story starts skipping years (at first only a couple, then many more) showing some episodes/adventures of Hoshikozu, Nina and her husband Taihei until
enough years have passed and the only member of the family left is Hoshikozu.

The story is interesting, crazy and funny, with a really nice art style but I couldn't help wonder, while reading, how this could be an ongoing story. Especially in the last chapter
with the death of Nina.
The last scene gives a few hints about how it will continue, but I'm still kinda lost yet not less interested in seeing the next volume.

It really fucking isn't. Shipping is literally an inherent human behavior; the same pair-bonding instinct that birthed GirlGAF begat shipping discussions. I honestly don't think you could say the same for Hot House. Shipping is just one of those things fucking everyone does and some people take way too far.

I don't get why some of you folks can get so intimidated by shipping conversations here. It's not like the people doing it in this thread did it in a crazy kind of way.

Now guro; there's nothing 'normal' about guro. Conflating those two together is absurd.

I find it not-sarcastically weird that people will read straight up bondage/torture porn and then complain about Bleach shipping discussions. Like, crazy guro is sort of amusing and all, I guess, but its kind of silly to complain that people talk about Naruto too much when the alternative discussion is fucking guro.

Angry Grimace

I think he was joking.

I'm aware of that, I just find it strange people spend time reading things they obviously don't actually like but complain about people discussing things they actually like.

Edit: I suppose I'm just being cranky that people seem to get this huge stick up their butts about shipping for some reason while not having a stick up their butts for all sorts of other random ass topics.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Guro is just another genre, and it falls under the umbrella of "art".

I mean, we did a group reading of Onani Master Kurosawa and Molester Man. It's only chance that the author is actually a good writer. It could've just been a manga about masturbation, and we might've talked about it anyway.

After all, this is the "Manga" thread, not the "family friendly Japanese comics" thread.

Shipping, however, is something different. It calls to mind the most depraved and annoying parts of fandoms who are willing to fight tooth and nail over something that is really pointless. It's sometimes enough to make you stop reading something just because the fans are so grating.

One can be easily tuned out or ignored, just like how I imagine most of this thread ignores shiteater/smut discussion. The other is more difficult since most people can relate to shippers somehow.

People who complain about anything within ManGAF need to quit while they're ahead.

There's room for all here, brehs. Complaining is weak.

Now you're just being hyperbolic.

People preferring, say, IchigoxOrihime than IchigoxRukia doesn't immediately qualify them as 'depraved', whatever that means. Not all of us who likes to ship characters are getting involved in whatever craziness you may see in various fandoms. In here especially, the shipping talks are relatively muted so I don't know why some of you are acting like it's the end of the world or something when some of us talk shipping stuff in this thread.

And generally speaking even those fandoms are typically filled with fun-loving easy going people too, who just want to have fun. Only some of them are truly 'hardcore' or 'crazy' or whatever else you may call them.

And 'pointless'? I wouldn't say that. People derive enjoyment out of mangas with various ways; some due to their art, some due to their stories: hell, if people derive enjoyment because of characters shipping, then why would you or anyone else call it pointless? Not to mention there has been many examples of manga authors actually playing into this kind of thing.

It's all in good fun.

Haly

I'm not saying the shipping talk in here is as bad as it is elsewhere. I'm saying it reminds people of the extreme shipping going on in other places on the internet and those negative associations alone are enough to be turned off by any kind of shipping talk.

It really fucking is, especially with all the fan arts and stuff that are impossible to happen. It could fun for a while, but i have seen people ship all kind of shit to turn me off it for the rest of my life.

There is a reason the thread title says "not a lick of constructive conversation here". As facetious as it is, it rings of truth.

I don't want to see this thread turn into NarutoFan anymore than it already does every Wednesday. I mean, I could always make a "Non-WSJ Manga thread" but splitting communities is never a good idea.

If people get their enjoyment from reading mangas from shipping, or form a big part of their enjoyment from shipping, I see no problem with it.

People enjoy stuff in various ways.

So what do you suggest? Ban people altogether from talk stuff like shipping or any other thing you might consider as stupid?

Maybe the next OT should put more clear restrictions on what is allowed and what is not allowed in the OP? Things like that?

I'm saying people should make more of an effort not to turn this thread into a shithole.

The only shipping I know that genuninely got REALLY out of hand was the Zuko/Katara/Aang shit from A:TLA.

That will forever be a taint on humanity's legacy.

Magi 181
It's such a shame Mog turned into such a crazy old man :(
Anyone want to take bets on what will happen once Aladin has pacified Mog and solved this whole mess?

I'm thinking that Aladin will become the magical city's official Magi, and publicly announce that the city is under his protection, while he continues his travels with company.

Speaking of shipping, there are some really crazy ones that either make you laugh or go wtf.

Then the names they call that ship is hilarious. Pokemon shipping is notorious for this.

Oh that note I have started the Oriemo manga. Way different in tone than the anime or light novel. I'm enjoying it so far.

Except Guro is a genre that literally consists of gore-porn. I don't think it deserves equal consideration with practically anything else that gets discussed here. I don't really expect to convince you since you've made your disapproval of MangaGAF clear in a number of other threads (e.g. the Shinkegi no Kyojin thread). I honestly don't know what exactly what your beef is, but you might as well just say it because I'm tired of the implication about whatever it is in every other thread.

Thread regularly goes to shit every Wednesday when this thread turns into a microcosm of the most annoying parts of the manga reading population. Is that hard to understand? It's clockwork at this point.

We've discussed Okama's Hanafuda here before, guro is not too far removed from that.

It's like console wars on gaming side, and THAT shit is actually bannable.

So the manga reading population of GAF represents the rest of Manga-internet and that makes you mad? I honestly don't get it. You think the manga-population of universe needs to reflect your need to read [whatever it is that Halycon reads]? That doesn't really make sense to me.

Guro weirds me out because I don't get the impression anybody here actually likes it. They just read it for shock value.

Because if you had a problem with Wednesday mangaGAF, I certainly haven't seen your complaints before. So why all of a sudden?

Wednesday GAF is all in good fun with some members talking a bit far but we end up joking about it or taking shots at each other.

I don't see anything wrong with making fun of a manga and praising the one you like. Big One grading the big 3 is one of most hilarious parts of manga GAF because someone always has something to say about it.

I'm saying people should make more of an effort not to turn this thread into a shithole.

I like to think that many of us are truly not intending to make this place into a... ah, shithole. But to say that every once in a while light-hearted stuff is not allowed in favor of *always* serious discussions with furrowed brows will make this thread, I think, a lot less enjoyable to be a part of.

Anyways, members of mangaGAF usually already recognize those who typically stir unfavorable shit in this thread and ignore them for the most part--or at the very least, not taking what they say seriously at all.

I guess ultimately what I want to say is, don't be too uptight, relax a little, and maybe just go with the flow...?

I honestly doubt anyone here takes his 'scores' or 'reviews' or what-have-you seriously.

It's simple. I like GAF because, thanks to the moderation policy, it's a bit cleaner than le reddit or 4chan or other places. Wednesday GAF brings a bit of internet stupidity in the thread every week.

You think the manga-population of universe needs to reflect your need to read [whatever it is that Halycon reads]? That doesn't really make sense to me.
Well if it did the thread would be a lot more fun for me. So, from a practical standpoint, yes. I do.

Guro weirds me out because I don't get the impression anybody here actually likes it.
A lot of people here only read the Big 3 because they've always been reading the Big 3, One Piece excluded. There are disingenuous reasons for reading manga in this thread in abundance.

They just read it for shock value.
And people watch horror/gore films for shock value too. So, really, we're talking about something that is commonplace.
Translation: I'm a fan of guro so stop talking bad about it?
Sounds like a Duwang translation. Really it's more:

"Don't knock guro just because it's not to your tastes."

Because if you had a problem with Wednesday mangaGAF, I certainly haven't seen your complaints before. So why all of a sudden?
lol

I'm not vocal about it here because it falls under the category of "thread shitting" and I, unlike others, actually make an effort not to shit up threads.

Wednesday GAF is all in good fun with some members talking a bit far but we end up joking about it or taking shots at each other.
Beam. Big One.

Big One grading the big 3 is one of most hilarious parts of manga GAF because someone always has something to say about it.
Yeah... okay. I guess some people are into that. It's an incomprehensible taste... just like guro!

Beam. Big One.

Two people out of what, 10 regulars? 15 regulars? And it's not like people are taking their baits every week. Heck, I still think that Beam is relatively harmless, especially compared to Big One, who likes to get really personal (and should be banned for it).

Strong words, my friend :)

Anyways, nearly all the folks here are cool beans in my eyes.

It's often enough that they have basically become living memes and you know what "Beam" and "Big One" refer to without any elaboration whatsoever.

A shitstorm.

But no, this is not a call out post, not that I could name specific regulars if I wanted to. Really, I'm just airing my grievances because it felt like the right time to do so.

Look, I'm pretty much the biggest Big One mark outside of of Beam and I can recognize he's trolling. I'm just a sucker for trolling packaged in a certain way.
