Marathon delayed by Bungie

People are overreacting to a delay that happens even to single player games. It may or may not work out for them, but it's the right step more devs need to do rather than just shoving something out that they know needs more work.

Delay can not fix the fundamental problems of this game. Its like thinking a delay would help save Concord.

They permed my boy? I thought he was coming back soon. I would love to hear how this is actually a good thing.

He thinks I got him permed 🤭

Prepare to Sprint for Damage control. Release on FEB 26 for 26.2

Will they steal more art in the during the delay.

This game and Fairgames are going to be either cancelled, or release to junky reviews and sales.

But in his slides, he needed these two games to round out that GAAS chart.

Eh, don't agree with this. He could easily have added Marvel Tokon, but likely this deck was made before the State of Play and it would risk a leak.

Marvel Tokon might be bigger than Marvel Rivals

Sony Business presentation hints at FY25 so maybe end of March 2026 is the time frame to fix it and launch it.

They'll have nearly 6 months (May) to put together fixes and maybe marshal resources from the Destiny team.

That will take us to late September early October for another beta. At this point if feedback isn't good, heads will roll and maybe the game is canceled. The plan will still be to launch within the fiscal year, so yeah, you're looking at launching maybe 3 months after the September/October beta.

They probably did that because they know the Bungie crew cant be trusted with confidential info. If bosses told employees last week there would be a delay and the company will tell gamers on social media this week, someone would had stealth dumped the memo on Reddit 10 minutes after everyone got it. And then gamers would be ragging on Marathon all weekend being delayed even though the company hadnt even confirmed it yet.

With how much confidential gaming info is leaked to the net (general industry stupidity by employees) and Marathon already has untrustworthy employees stealing art, who knows what the hell they'll do next.

So management wants to control the narrative going forward where internal staff and gamers hear it the same time.

I think you nailed it.

Yet another reason Sony should clean house at bungie. They only part of bungie that remains of that studio is the name.

The fact that it happened after the alpha test and they had announced a release date is the worrying part
Worrying? Absolutely, yet also not surprising considering the feedback. Can't think of one time a game getting delayed was due to it being in a good state. At least this gives them a shot at getting closer to something better for launch. That's a far cry from DoA.

Most complaints I've seen on Marathon are more gameplay related vs Concord. ARC Raiders also stole a lot of thunder during that period too. I think they have a solid enough of a base game to make something successful if they give it the time it needs.

Sony really wants their money back but they have no choice, so keep it in the FY25 and try to save it till then, that's what it seems they thought here.

Bros literally going to rework the entire game lmao

I still can't believe Sony paid 4 billion dollars for this. Absolutely insane.

The same could have said about Concord. Almost all complains where either because it shouldn't be a paid game(even saying this could save the game) or lack of stages.
Until they deal with the elephant in room, it will not matter. The game lacks any form of appeal. Its an ugly game, with unapealling artstyle and ugly characters no one have interest in it. A delay can not fix this.

They really need to cancel this. The damage is done. There's no salvaging it.

No one cares about Cyberpunk anymore. Move on. The games major flaws are at the core of the design, so beyond addressing bugs and adding new content, there's really no 'fixing' it per se. CDPR aren't even calling it an RPG anymore, they call it an "open-world, action-adventure story." Fucking gross.

Save us Todd.

With all the PlayStation Studios stuff slowly leaking, it was probably launch the game as is in September but if you want a delay you have to become part of PlayStation studios and have a closer supervisory situation going forward.

Anyone saying Marathon isn't fixable is trolling though.

If the game comes out in say March, that will be nearly a year from the beta... that's so much time to transform a game.

I would never trust gaming employees with confidential info. This industry has a wacky way of dumping leaks, telling the world about bad bosses and company culture, confidential layoff memos, ragging on competing games on social media etc... It's a loose cannon kind of industry.

On the other hand, how often does anyone see crazy shenanigans from other big popular companies/sectors selling stuff to consumers? Not too often. The funniest is when that GTA guy working from home had his laptop open and his own son saw it and uploaded alpha builds to the net. You cant trust they will be secure with info, and heck you cant even trust their kids roaming around the house either. lol

  • A better player experience for solo/duos
  • Prox chat, so social stories can come to life

To be fair these are the two things I heard most people complain about. It's better to let it cook a bit longer, games like this should be developed with early releases and community feedback. Chances of hitting a success straight out without that are so slim, may as well bring people along.

The delay was inevitable. Not a surprise. The list of things they're tackling first is reassuring. Shows they actually listened to the feedback. They still need to make the hero element of it make sense.

Having said all that. Sony better fucking learn here. Have a closed/public alpha for Fairgames without a release date associated with it. Come out and say "this is what we've been working on. Try it out. Give us some feedback" Instead of a glorified marketing demo. I hope this is one of the learning Hulst was referring to last week.

If this is true, I'm guessing it's because they did not want it to leak before the business meeting last week. The decision to delay was obviously made shortly after the alpha finished.

Suicide Squad as well. It's a tragic story we've seen multiple times this gen. RIP

Another victim of toxic positivity. You can tell the alpha was the first time the game was exposed to honest unfiltered criticism. Bungie must be filled with a bunch of spineless people-pleasers

No realistic delay can change the fundamentals or make the game what it was not meant to be (single player, co-op, f2p if it wasn't conceived with a f2p in-game economy).
Imo they should just focus on adding all the things they can and fix all the fixable things based on alpha feedback then do an open beta towards the end of the year and then they'll know if the project is destined to fail or not.

I hope they don't cancel the Gummy Bears game. I have to see it. I have to.

They probably gave Concord their vote of confidence before it got released.
