Marathon Releases September 23, 2025

Looks pretty good. Love the visual design/art direction. Shooting looks solid as expected.

This game will live or die based on how good the loot/economy is.

Love the art style and art direction. Looks like they mostly kept the Destiny gunplay, which is a huge plus. Can't wait for a beta.

My entire gaming history is essentially from multiplayer shooters, goldeneye, to halo 3 to battlefield 2024 so I would consider myself on top of my multiplayer game, to even rare titles like Socom, metal gear online and Marathon actually looks good, it's an extreme art style that at the end of the day is different than call of duty or gears of war, I figured out how to get into the beta and will judge it from there, no traditional campaign has been the norm for years, you'll see testing the servers and maps, and over the new few months we'll decide if Marathon has a foundation.

Did it occur to you that they just showed a montage of the action?

You could make the same kind of videos for Hunt Showdown.

Embark made a 6 minute video of ARC Raiders that heavily featured down, slower, tension filled moments because they were proud of the energy they put into that aspect of the game.

Folks...Marathon is an action based Extraction Shooter.

Match of the Day highlights are not an hour long. Actually...hang on...Embark did it in 6 minutes.

You show off what you're proud of and hide what you didn't put energy into.

MOTD is always around an hour.

I do hear where you are coming from, I think they did a poor job today which is unusual for Bungie. Its like they are trying to hide the hardcore nature of the game to appeal to the masses.

If this is basically Tarkov then sell it as much because at the moment they are sending a confusing message. If the game is good then it will sell. Looks like they don't know the target audience which i will admit is a little worrying

Have no interest in playing an extraction shoorter, especially full priced. I would have given it a try if was F2P cuz Bungie does shooting feel really good. But that was a sick trailer, i could watch a movie based on that. Also agree this would have made a great single player game with good story and they could have added a multiplayer mode on top of it to further monetize it.
I would be a hyprocrite because i reacted the same way with Destiny in terms of being a games as a service, lootbased etc. Its one my favorite games, that being said never played an extraction shooter never had an interest to, so this will be something new for me.

hearing Aztecross going over more of the story based elements and secrets in the game has piqued my interest.

As well as listeing to Jake the Alright and byfs talk

has got me really interested in the lore and the world of Marathon. Its not going to be for everyone but a single player should've been a no brainer here the lore/story sounds really interesting.

Wtf is it with these devs going for colorful mid shooters these days. Didn't they get the memo? Who the fuck wants this?

Where the fuck are the exclusive sony games? I lost my patience with these morons.

This looks good to me, its like Dmz from cod. Love the dynamic weather . And all the other teams in the same map . Reminds me of the Raids in Destiny as well woth other teams in the map

You have optimism in you. That's good.

But I played this game with Concord, thanks to James Sawyer Ford James Sawyer Ford (lol). I saw that gameplay reveal and allowed myself to think "Oh there just has to be cool stuff I'm not seeing". There isn't. There never is.

The people producing these promotional presentations are taking every cool looking thing the game has and dangle it in front. No one who's trained to produce marketing material would ever hide attractive aspects of their product.

Also, disclaimer...I'm day one on Marathon. It's still my most anticipated game of the year. It's just not the leap I was expecting.

Naughty Dog made some good multi-player games on PS3/4 with Uncharted 3/4 and TLOU, why can't they continue to do that?

Even Santa Monica made a good multi-player game with God of War: Ascension.

I was so looking forward to Factions 2.
I hope they uncancel it, cuz i think that would have been an awesome game.
Imagine all the extra players they would have nabbed by now with the TV show coming out.
Make TV accurate skins and all.

Damn.........

Except the problem with Raiders was it was actually boring as shit and needed a ton of work. Great up sell on the video though, Bungie should take notes and I'd never thought id say that.

Same people saying this will die are the same ones who said marvel rivals would fail and it's made like a billion dollars at this point in time lol. I'm not a multi-player fan at all, but this honestly didn't look too bad and i expect it to be big when it launches.

I'm not being sarcastic here. Kudos to the art team and director of that short. Beautiful.

Anyone even remotely linking this to Concord is out of their mind. Peoples slapping concord term on anything with colors beyond brown and grey is getting tiring.
This is legit the most amazing thing I've seen for any videogame in ages. The presentation, style, visuals are all incredible.
Dudes got amazing atyle. He did 2 shorts for netflix love death +robots and also this watch dogs legion trailer few years back

Music is great. Gunplay looks solid. I don't know if I am sold on the art style. It's unique for sure but maybe a little too abstract for the mass market.

True, my point is just that I greatly prefer the ARC Raiders philosophy over what I think is Marathons philosophy. That doesn't mean I'll prefer ARC Raiders or that Marathon will flop.

Concord has a lot to answer for lol.

Why is this art style acceptable?

It looks like Halo 5, flat and boring.

It looks fuck all like Halo 5 you knob.

Can someone quote me when 6 months after launch they give out some generic statement about reevaluating their road map and listening to players, then one month later say their focus is on Destiny 3

I actually like the art style.
I could see myself being interested in this if it was a regular shooter.

Couldn't care less about the extraction shooter genre though

Only gunplay looked good, and with the news that it is full priced?
Nope, gtfo.

Sony needs to return to cinematic single players games and stop chasing the GaaS goose.
They have Helldivers 2, thats enough.

If it were F2P or around the $20 mark I'm sure I could get me and my friends into it, but extraction shooters rub me the wrong way.

Impossible to balance, extremely frustrating to play and ripe with opportunity for the devs to incentivize monetization in a pay to win kind of way.

Every death will be salty. Be it the enemy team had better loot or because I had amazing loot they put me in the highly skilled lobby so that I would lose my amazing loot and be more inclined to pay for microtransactions.

Despite the negative discourse on Nintendo Switch 2, i got a feeling this is also coming to NS2.

This could be fun and make some money. Just depends. Destiny 2 made money only cause Destiny 1 was very good.

Yet, Bungie still has not hit the highs of Halo since they have been on their own.

It's not full priced. It's likely $40

Is this running on Destiny's crappy engine?
Since nobody addressed this yet: Yes, this is running on Tiger Engine (Destiny 1 and 2's engine).

Actually it shows. The way materials are rendered and lighting is cast.

I understand why they keep it, because hey, use what you have, but i also know that Tiger Engine has been difficult to work with according to former devs. So to stick with it, eh. Atleast the gunplay and movement will be pretty good, but you can tell Marathon isn't pulling out all visual fanfare.

In fact, Deadlink looks incredibly similar to this.

But hey atleast this is an FPS using something else than Unreal Engine 5. The only other recent game to do this is La Quimera.

That artstyle makes it look so cheap. Nad another BR game? Good luck winning it from the established games already available.
Sadly this game is not for me.

In what world do they think this art style looks good?

In what world do they think this gameplay is unique enough to pull people away from their current multiplayer FPS game of choice?

In what world could Sony have not learned from Concord?

This fucking generation has been an absolute waste. Great hardware. But no vision for the software, except "See that thing that made a fuck-tillion dollars? Do that!"

It's looking fine, doesn't look bungie revolutionary, though.

will play the Alpha/beta see how it is but i just don't know if this is going to be the massive breakthrough hit like D1 was.

Looks meh as fuck. Doesn't even really look like an extraction shooter. Looks like a new Destiny game mode.

I'll try the alpha though and I hope it's good.

Conflicting views.

Luke Stephens video says maps are small and you'll get into firefights with other teams. Skill Up says the opposite and you can run around just battling enemy bots.

Maybe their playstyles are different or played different maps.
