Someone told me how to disable the steer-assist and now my cart seems to be going roughly twice as fast as before. I've gone from finishing multiplayer racers dead last (or close to) to being competitive again. What the fuck Nintendo.
I was literally screaming obscenities at the tv because people in similar spec'd karts would blow right past me even though I wasn't making any mistakes.

So, those staff ghosts. I won all the 200cc cups without much trouble, and I can't even beat the first ghost. Like, not even close.
It's 1000 times easier in 1st place than 4th+ in this game.
In 1st you only have to worry about 1 red shell/blue shell but in lower places it feels like you get bombarded with everything and anything. Makes it really difficult if you fall behind.
Doesn't help that the game is stingy af with items.

I reached the maximum number of races for the week, so my score resets to 0 every time I enter the lobby, and what ever I earn doesn't go towards my total score in the tournament for this week.

Puts invisible bumpers on the side of the course so you can't fall off.
Great for racing with lesser-skilled players.

Switch was having issues connecting to the 24hr fitness Wifi. Ended up using my phone to connect to 24hrs wifi, then connect my switch to my phone using the wifi tethering. Worked great, online matches were stable.

Well the debate is solved. The answer is to use a Kart while using a Bike.

Horrible CPU tactics just then.
About to win easily and had 2 green shells to protect my back.
Ghost gets me and takes the first shell and I get hit straight away.
A couple of seconds later as I'm about to win another ghost appears and takes my other shell and I get hit with another shell, which sends me to 2nd.

I was playing Mario Kart and all of a sudden I was filled with a feeling of dread. I wasn't alone, someone / something in the room was watching me. I sort of freaked out and woke up. That's it.
Honestly a pretty standard nightmare for me, it's just that I was playing MK cuz that's what I've been playing irl. Nothing too exciting! I didn't get hit by any shells...
But I'm still gonna blame you guys. Clearly the monster has been GAF all along.

Tried the 200cc for the first time and it felt like I didn't have any control over my cart. I just brute forced my way through the cup, hitting every wall and missing every turn haha

Use the damn breaks! It's hard to grasp at first but you must break, and can do so when drifting. Essential.

Not for me.
Maybe you have steer assist on? It's on by default.
Pause and turn it off.
Your character and kart my also be an issue. Larger characters are much heavier and with slower acceleration than the smaller ones like Baby Mario.
The real racing is also at 150cc.
