Just turn on auto-steering and auto-acceleration. The only thing you'll need to worry about are tight corners and making sure you get items. It's not that difficult to get him.

Auto steer is a blessing in 200cc, I managed to scrape through with a mix of 1 and 2 star ranks.

Pressing the left trigger occasionally does not stop the item roulette properly, it just blares my kart horn a few times as I push it trying to make the items stop.
