Mario Kart World |OT| See that mountain? You can drive to it.

Yeah okay, this game is incredible. You win again, Nintendo.

I went into World being really skeptical about the changes and how wide and open everything is. But nope, it's perfect. It's just another perfect Mario Kart game.

Knockout mode is so insanely fun, I can see myself getting super addicted to it.

Free Roam is a mode for Mario Kart fans. I love just poking around in and around the tracks and some of the challenges are cool. When I got to the top of DK Spaceport there's a challenge to run it backwards and the time limit was pretty tight.

Yeah, I see it now. I don't get why they went for this, 8 didn't have this.
Maybe it's a callback to the N64 days

50cc and 100cc all done with 1st place in all races
I'll get started on 150cc after work

I'm glad to see that Grand Prix is still in the game despite it being open world. At first I wasn't sure it would feel like a regular Mario Kart game.
The vibe of this game makes me want to go on a road trip.

The soundtrack is a GOATimer too. Every course has its own music of course but then for Free Roam and all the in between there must be over a hundred Mario remixes and they're all fantastic. Every time I play there's one I haven't heard before. Can't wait for them to put this on Nintendo Music

Dude the music is absolutely incredible. I'm a huge fan of Mario music and jazz, and the MK8 OST is one of my favorites.

This blows it out of the water. The number of newly arranged deep cuts is wild. I want a rip of this album as soon as possible.

I feel like the $50 I paid as part of the Switch bundle feels like an appropriate price.
Did any of you pay the full $80?

The one thing I will say though, I am extremely happy with the hit detection and physics between players online. In 8 the desync is so bad it's basically like you're not even using items on people. You'll hit them and they just keep on sauntering by.

You will get punished properly in this game. Has me hopeful for Splatoon 4. Plus the finally long overdue included-in-the-god-damn-dock ethernet port helps a lot.

Been playing all afternoon. Its lovely, 9/10.
I was unsure until I loaded it up. Just driving round and loving every minute of it. I will get to the races at some point I am sure. This game looks amazing too. The people moaniing about the open world are the same ones that would also be complaining Nintendo played it safe simply making Mario kart 9... Lol.

The music is just epic too..

Alas, really not a fan of Knockout Tour. It's just silly. The first two stages are pure chance.

You also lose control of your vehicle far too much. It's tipped into being irritating.

Work and Family haven't really afforded me much time to play but I really like it so far. OH My Goodness the jazz arrangements of all the classic Mario music is too good.

If someone could help me out I'm confused about a few things:
  • The glowing food bag things, I've grabbed a few and just seem to transform you into a new outfit and unlocks it in the process? Are these just random?
  • I noticed if you hold jump you charge up a big jump with its own set of incrementing sparks. I found it hard to tell, but is there a negative to this like reducing your speed while charging?
  • Is there original track music? Grand Prix makes it incredibly confusing because I can't tell when tracks start and end, and keep hearing a lot of old arrangements. I really wish this game had an options menu because I'd like to turn up the music and turn down the sound effects.

the more I play this game, the more I love it

online feels identical to single player when it comes to lag, desync, etc.

every map is a banger

I enjoy free roam a lot. the world is just stunning. I love driving around and taking it all in. really excited to see what else they do it with it in regards to DLC

there seems to be a billion pow switches. feels like you can find one every 20 or seconds driving around which is a ton given how fucing HUGE the map is

I'm surprised there isn't more lag/slow down given world size. are they doing some black magic and actually instancing off the game, or is the whole world map loaded? because it is REALLY big

Free roam was a mistake. It's fun for a bit but couldn't they have put their time in making a more focused experience on track? What's even the point?

MK8 had like 100 tracks. This has 28.

It looks fine and a nice step ahead, but driving in the open world is kind of boring? Driving in the sea is really nice, but it all feels so barren and I don't know.. simple? Soulless?

By the way, for such a casual game they sure as hell don't explain (besides an ingame manual) how tricking or wall riding works.
Not really comparing apples here...Originally Mario Kart 8 on the Wii had 32 tracks. Then they added another 16 via the original awesome DLC. The deluxe version on the Switch had all this from the word go but then the additional DLC was an substandard copy and paste job from Mario Kart tour and looked totally awful compared to the time and effort that had obviously gone into the original tracks. Hell this DLC was torn to shreds on forums, now all of a sudden it's the best thing since sliced bread.

The new games world is awesome imho but each to their own.

I guess I just want more out of it than collecting a sticker out of all these challenges

Like I said each to their own. To me exploring this world is part of the fun. The HDR is pretty awesome too. There is more than enough to do and I have only just scratched the surface. At some point I need to complete some actual racing. Bummed people are not enjoying it as much as me.

I love it in a way but I also think the tracks are a lot less challenging from a driving perspective. Less corners less fast turning etc..

I was not too sure going into the open world and was a little put off at first. But then it simply clicked.

I never played MK8, how do rankings work?

when I go to multiplayer, each mode has a number next to it

is that my rank? if so, it seems like it can only go up?

Here's what I mean by hazy. Everything has this foggy look in the distance that just makes it look washed out all the time.

With the correct settings this game is a peach in HDR. These screens do not convey that. Driving around at night is very good.

the battle royale mode so far is the saving grace of the title, not much tecnique thus far but very fun, managed to get to third place two times but it's often up to luck since all you need is one attack and 15 karts surpass you

Doing Grand Prix, is it me or it's a lot of straight roads? I guess I should be taking all the rails I see?

Man I miss inside drift bikes

I swear, each location I do in free roam, I always miss 1 ? plate... always 1... does every location have one that's just insanely hidden or something?

Finally got triple stars in all of the 150cc races
One the series I kept getting hit by a shell on the last corner of the last race and then had to start over and over and over

I feel like the $50 I paid as part of the Switch bundle feels like an appropriate price.
Did any of you pay the full $80?
I did, I wanted a physical copy.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I would pay $80 for the soundtrack, alone. My favorite genre of music is jazz, especially funky fusion stuff. And my favorite OSTs are from Mario games. So this soundtrack is like a gift from the great beyond, just for me.

I have a feeling free roam with some good headphones will be my happy place for the next few years.

Not really a big Mario Kart fan, but loving this one. The free roam is great, and the music is amazing, so many tracks from past mario games, which was always missing in past MKs.

I have a theory that fun in Mario Kart comes down to drifting. If you drift every corner and try to perfect each boost at the right time, the game is dynamic and satisfying. Rewarding.

But people who just causually play with little drifting and turn normally seem to get bored of it faster.

Thats my observation at least.

Something idiotic always happens at the last turn of the last race, preventing me from getting three stars on 150cc. The classic Mario Kart experience.

You don't need to play 50cc -> 100cc -> 150cc, if you get three stars in 150cc you get them in 50cc and 100cc too. I'm skipping 50cc altogether since it's quite boring.

Aside from a few grievances I'm really enjoying the game, it's the perfect launch title. Super fun. And I haven't tried Knockout and Free Roam yet, I want to wrap up the Grand Prix cups first.

EDIT: Few other users said it already but the soundtrack is incredible.

Any confirmed method for unlocking Mirror Mode? I don't have it yet but I've seen it confirmed to exist
