Mario Kart World |OT| See that mountain? You can drive to it.

Just booted up a bit, love the mode free roam

Is it running at 120fps or 60 ? I thought you had the option for both but couldn't find it

So far I'm a bit disappointed. Fun game in grand prix, but almost every track is lacking in personality? They all just float together and don't feel as tight as any of the precious tracks in all of the previous games. Also, very few distinct melodies in the soundtrack - almost every song seems to be a remix or tribute to old songs.

Like, yeah it's fun but pretty much every track (and song) in Mario Kart 8 was super memorable whereas these ones... Hmm. Very few of them so far.

Hooray, 50cc is complete. I love the sound of the turtle shells as they get close to your Kart. I think my favorite Kart is the W-Twin Chopper. R.O.B. H.O.G. is adorable though.

The AI is turbo douche mode all the time now. I'm really enjoying eating multiple guaranteed spiked shells just as the finish line is coming into view if I'm in first place. This is some great fucking Mario Kart AI, even by Mario Kart's low standards for bullshit AI

Lets-a go!

The camera with MKW actually kind of cool. The winner gets camera time. And any time you pass a friend in the race, they see your face on your car as you pass - both even if friends don't have the camera. I didn't watch any previews so some or all is probably not new news.

The more I play this, the more I think the graphics are mid AF.

It's all so hazy and empty and jaggy. Not a fan of the art direction. The previous Mario Karts looked way better in my opinion.

Free roam was a mistake. It's fun for a bit but couldn't they have put their time in making a more focused experience on track? What's even the point?

MK8 had like 100 tracks. This has 28.

It looks fine and a nice step ahead, but driving in the open world is kind of boring? Driving in the sea is really nice, but it all feels so barren and I don't know.. simple? Soulless?

By the way, for such a casual game they sure as hell don't explain (besides an ingame manual) how tricking or wall riding works.

Open world in racing games is something i don't enjoy. Like in Need For Speed etc. But in Mario Kart World it is optional so it's all good.

I'M A COW RIDING A DOLPHIN AND JUST ATE A HAMBURGER!

I feel like this should be the definitive review of Mario Kart World. That's all you need to know.

I love how Nintendo fused Mario Kart with the 3D Mario games, and it's going to take a while for everyone to discover all the secrets and gameplay innovations. Whether this is hailed as the best MK or not, you have to give them credit for trying some new ideas. You can tell Nintendo felt like they took the series to its final conclusion with MK8, and they must have been wracking their brains for years trying to determine what to do next. Kudos for taking some chances and giving us something more than merely "Mario Kart 9."

I do hope the $500 MKW bundle stays around for a while. That's a good deal, although I still feel the price is too high. It's possible that I'm in the minority on this one, and we will soon discover if gamers are willing to pay higher prices for consoles and games. It's kind of funny that I really want to have an Atari 5200--a fully decked-out system with refurbished joysticks, track-ball and digital joystick adapter--which would end up costing me around, oh...$500.

Also, if I'm understanding this correctly, the cups with the tracks with a rolling start and long straight away sections are just the open world section to connect to a traditional track and the last segment of the race is just one lap of that traditional track. I'm not sure that's the best way to incorporate your open world, but I kind of see what they are going for. Not having a marathon course that covers all tracks and how they are interconnected a la SSX3/On Tour seems like an oversight.

I also really hate the font and text color choices, especially on the countdown timer.

Agreed, there's some great tracks here but they went above and beyond with MK8. I still consider it the greatest racing game of all time.

Having a blast, never played mk8 so can't compare it but yeah this is good times

how does progression work? It looks like you get skins from the meals. what about karts? Feels random when I get one

Any other progression?

Collecting coins will unlock karts. And you get stickers. And other cool stuff in free roam.

MK World looks significantly better than MK8 for sure. However it just has one problem for me, it's boring af. The gameplay even on 150cc is way too slow.
Yes. They should just import the Mario Kart 8 tracks and give them a visual makeover.

Knockout Tour is fun but everything besides that is extremely boring and bland and empty and soulless.

I think the open world is fun exploring, I've been driving around stoned messing around

having said that, I think it would be pretty cool if it was shared with other players. or at least gave you the option to have a world shared with other players.

or even have the ghosts of other players in the world, like they do in Riders Republic

If you create an online multiplayer lobby everyone just drives around the open world until you set up a race (which you don't even have to do). You can even still collect stuff and find secrets
