Marvel Legacy: Spider-Man goes back to basics (spoilers)

This is my problem with comics. Why can't they let major characters truly move on to a new status quo without resetting everything? Give them a son or daughter and build them up as the new stars, inherent the books, whatever, but please stop taking the same person back to an ancient setup all over again. It's cyclical to the point of nausea.

This is so hilarious.

Is he gonna be living with his Aunt May, too?

Sigh.

No one seems to read the information before commenting

And, no, it is NOT about Peter becoming a photographer again. It’s a new twist. It’s something we haven’t seen in Amazing Spider-Man yet.

The fact that they're specifically saying he's going back to the Bugle in a "mysterious capacity" and making sure to point out that he's NOT going back to being a photographer should tell people that while yes, they're putting Peter back in a more familiar element, this isn't about resetting anything to a status quo.

A few people have called it in this thread but if the twist is that Peter is now the owner of the Bugle, that is a new direction for the character that allows him to grow while also acting as an homage to his most well-known career.

Honestly the struggling Peter bit makes zero sense so I was glad they dropped it. Jesus they can't let Peter be even close to something resembling happiness.

Man I barely even care about comics but this dan slott guy seems like a hack. But he seems like a nice enough guy on twitter and comics are dumb anyways so eeeeeh. I can't be mad.

I read Scrappy underdog Peter Parker. It's always justified to make him a piece of shit and his life shitty.

I don't want to read anymore Scrappy underdog Peter Parker. Shipping this for sure.

Yeah, but I was talking about Spider-Man. How long has Slott been on now? I'm assuming probably Stan Lee wrote more, but Slott's got to be up there. JMS wrote for a long time, too, I think.

Slott has actually written way more issues than Stan because Spider-Man has been 2 or 3 times monthly since he started writing it. He's written something like 20% of all issues of Amazing Spider-Man.

I've actually liked Peter's new status quo.

Dan Slott always returns to form. His "dreaded Parker luck" fetish means that everything Spidey does has to boomerang and blow up in his face. I mean, its one thing to have a troubled life, but when your writer thinks that's all you're good for? That gets boring as fuck.

I've been off an on annoyed with Peter Parker, and it isn't getting better because he's being written as an absent minded rookie.

I'm getting my "back to basics" Spider-man stories with Renew Your Vows, Miles Morales, Spider-man 2099, and Scarlet Spider.

I'm good.

This is the first time Slott has reset what he has done with Peter. Everything else built up to Parker Industries.

you took the wrong context from my words.

I'm not saying history is repeating itself. I'm saying Dan Slott is repeating history for reasons.

Most comic fans only want the illusion of change. Slott has had Peter doing completely different things since his solo run started ~7 years ago and now it's going back as part of bigger push in response to those complaints. We don't really know what Peter's life is going to look like in Legacy though other than he will be working at the Bugle in a role he has never had before.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Slott has been out of ideas for years. I actually enjoyed his run up until Superior, then it was clear he was tapped.

I think I'm starting to realize that I might just be easily entertained, as I just read Spider-Verse and really enjoyed it, and haven't found any Slott stuff that I've actively read that I've disliked. Then again, I don't have this longstanding history and attachment to the character.

Yeah, well at this point it sounds better then anything that Marvel's currently doing with Spider-Man in the comics I guess. Still not great.

Wait was Spidey not on its original numbering?

I thought it went back to it a while ago did they undo that?

Yeah, but they restarted all their current titles mostly in response to the new 52 at the time.

Marvel is too petty to admit they were wrong on that one. We're probably better off just enjoying Renew Your Vows while we can.
The issue there is that a ton of people at Marvel and potentially Disney have never liked the marriage and have regretted it from the beginning.

90s?

90s Spidey was Clone Wars Spidey... fuck that shit
I can understand wanting JMS Spider-Man, but the 90s wasn't a weird time lol.

this looks objectively terrible.

I hope we get to see handsome, genius recognized by Reed Richards, greater superhero exploits than most avengers combined, Peter Parker struggling again like he should be.

I still buy a lot of trades from my local comic book shop. So I don't feel bad. I just won't be buying anymore Spider-Man.

Nah go before that. Web of Spider-Man and amazing (Erik Larsen) was great. I think the maximum clonage shit was like mid to late 90s.

Yet another relaunch? Or no, back-to-basics and original numbering. They fucked shit up, now back to start. I heard rumors that Legacy isn't even a permanent return to original numbering, but just a promotion ultimately leading up to yet more relaunched books and new #1s.

Marvel haven't learned shit.

If this new arc ends with Peter running the Daily Bugle, which would absolutely be moving the character forward and doing something new, this will be a fun thread to revisit.

Given Slott's politics, that could lead to some fun anti-#FakeNews stuff. Using Peter Parker as the MCU character pushing for truth and responsible journalism makes sense.
Honestly it's 50/50 on him being the editor or a journalist/senor photographer/whatever. You never know with Comic book companies like DC/Marvel.

It sounds like Peter will be involved with The Daily Bugle again after some time away. What role does the Bugle fill in his life?
In Amazing Spider-Man we’re going to see The Daily Bugle and the Bugle cast come back in a big way. And, no, it is NOT about Peter becoming a photographer again. It’s a new twist. It’s something we haven’t seen in Amazing Spider-Man yet. After 55 years, that’s a pretty cool trick, right? And it’s a development I’ve been dying to get to for a long time!

He's either the owner, or he's in Robbie Robertson's position.

Owner of the Daily Bugle would be amazing, guys. So many fun stories there.

I dunno, I've always thought Slot has done a great job at keeping things moving for Peter. I've actually complained in the past that they change the status quo too much.

Slott's even doing his own Brand New Day?

Dear God, how long is he going to fucking BE on this book?

He doesn't need to be a mega rich corporate guy, but for the love of god, don't go for the scrappy underdog crap again because it just feels forced now. The guy has several connections in the rich superhero world. The guy is a genius. Stooooop.

He's either the owner, or he's in Robbie Robertson's position.

I feel like even being an Editor or Journalist would be out of the question. Wasn't it a big thing before Peter went to work for Horizon labs how he got outted as having edited his photographs, getting him blacklisted for Journalism?
