ME1 led to that Fox News nonsense, and that one guy calling it a porn simulator, where the player chooses all the positions and partners (he later admitted that he had never actually played or seen the game and simply been going off what he had been told). It's why it's been underwear ever since.

But couldn't one argue that it's free publicity? And you attract all "people" the with the allure of virtual boobs?

Maybe it's because I don't live in the US that I have a hard time comprehending how virtual side boobs can be so harmful as to deserve media coverage?

Not all the romances are like that though. The
Liara
one is the most explicit sex scene in the series. More than the ME1 ones.

Just beat it... Yup...

I'll say, it wasn't "raise $80,000 for a new ending" bad, but it was definitely not good. Geez...

Time to head to the spoiler thread. Just... man.

Liara's romance model in ME3 has

I finally started playing the game yesterday. I remember reading something about missions that will get unavailable if they're not done before others? Could someone clarify this for me? I'd like to do a 100% playthrough, what do I have to do to be able to play all missions?
Is this about sidequests or mainquests?

Do all available, non scanning sidequests before taking on anything with priority in it and you should be fine.

Visit the Citadel as much as you can, and make sure every system you can explore has 100% next to its name before you head to another mission. There's a certain mid-game event that will be the main reason some sidequests expire, while others won't. There's only one that got past me during my first playthrough, so I'll just put it this way. Shouldn't be too spoilerific.

Complete "Citadel: Improved Power Grid" before starting "Priority: Tuchanka".

My main playstyle during this playthrough has been to do a major quest, then explore every new star system on the galaxy map and get all the artifiacts and war assets I can. Then I head to the Citadel, complete the quests I can, and head on to do another mission.

You'll unlock some quests before you're able to finish them, too.

Thanks!

By the way - will I ever get details about what happened between ME2 and ME3?
Who is Vega? What exactly happened at Shepards trial? And why the heck is Udina councilor?

They don't explain what happened during Shepards trial..if you did arrival, that's the main reason she had to go to trial. Udina was made councilor in Retribution because Anderson was launching an attack on the cerberus base

The leaked script for ME3 shows the meeting just before the Reapers show up was going to be the trail, that why the scene makes no sense.

I say goddamn that endgame is hard. I'm playing on normal, with a level fortysomething shepard (engineer) but I just ragequit at

defending the missiles just before you can fire the last two at the reaper (london). First six brutes, then six banshees, and if you want to get away from the banshees the reaper fries you, RAGE

Still loving the game to bits. Must be some lousy endscene lol. And what's up with not being allowed to save anywhere?

As I'm getting no response in the ME2 OT, I'll try my questions here:

Sooo.. Thinking about doing an ME2 renegade run to refresh myself on the story and characters before beginning ME3. Some questions:

I want to play it on PC, which version is the best to get? The Steam version seems the obvious choice.

How much can the PC version be tweaked (graphics)? I have a more than decent rig, so I want to use it.

I have a completed ME1 save on my 360. I want to continue that character. Can I somehow use that save with the PC version?

Note: these questions are about Mass Effect 2, not 3. Hope it's okay asking them here.

Just whatever you feel is the best. If you like Steam, do that.

Besides forcing AA+AF, remember to use the texture mods listed in this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=461541

I thank you, mate. So the Steam version doesn't have any issues with fixes or mods not working? I kinda always read that Steam games always have "something" wrong.

Oh, right. If you are going to use Texmod (the program needed to implement the high res textures), you need to have a fixed/retail exe for the Steam version. It's pretty straight forward, imo.

What about the Origin version? Otherwise I'll just hop by a store.

Yeah, I think it took me three or four tries myself. The only reason I was able to beat it was because I used the bad AI to my advantage.
I hung out in the back right room with the table and circled around the table throwing my biotic shockwave and unloading my shotgun repeatedly.
Biotic charge saved my hide since I was able to get the heck out of there when necessary.

The whole time I was like, "Man, and you have to do this part on insanity? Impossible for me. It would never happen."

The endgame is really really hard.
I still don't understand how to kill banshees. I was playing vanguard in insanity with the geth shotgun. Never had much trouble with brutes. But banshees are just a big pain in the ass, especially when there are lots of marauders around to prevent you from running away from the banshees. How the hell are they so resistant?

I'm on the plot-heavy Citadel mission about halfway (I'm guessing) through the game, and man, the cutscenes in this game are horribly done, to the point where there's no gravity to anything. I'm not talking quality of the graphics or anything, I'm talking about what takes place in them. The character interactions and dialogue are like a grade B action movie. Specifically:

Scene where Thane is fighting Kai Leng. Should be impactful, as it's basically Thane showing up to play the hero before he dies. Thane appears to be doing well early in the fight. He's got a pistol, Kai Leng has a sword. So what does Thane do next? Run right up to Kai Leng, jump at him, and get stabbed. Again, pistol vs. sword, and they choose to do one of these stupid "Let's run at each other and jump into the air! It'll look really dramatic! Really!" scenes. Maybe there's something in Thane's backstory that I've forgotten that says he prefers pistol-whipping people to shooting them, but honestly, what the heck Bioware.

Then right after this when Kai Leng somehow drops onto Shepard's ship and is just standing there, you'd think the natural reaction would be to take evasive maneuvers and try to make him fall off (which should be pretty easy to do). Nah. They continue going perfectly straight, Kai Leng stabs through the ship's hull with his magical sword, and the ship crashes. Ugh.

Earlier in the game when Shepard visits
Kaiden
in the hospital, Bioware was clearly going for an emotional moment between them (with Mansell's piano score and everything), but the dialogue was SO generic that it just fell flat. That's unfortunately the case with pretty much all the dialogue in this game.

It's stuff like this that prevents me from getting into the events of the game as much as I'd like to, and it's a real shame. It's been too long since I played ME1 to remember it accurately, but I know I was a heck of a lot more engrossed in the story and the interactions between the characters than I have been so far in ME3. Iirc the writing was much better back then.

EDIT: Oh my gosh, the scene at the end of the mission with Shepard and
Kaiden/Udina/the Council
was the most lol-worthy yet.

I
killed them like everything else. I had
Garus
use overload to kill the barrier/sheilds, tell
Liara
to use warp to DoT, then charge my assault rifle with armor piercing rounds. Also, have you found the special, "Kill things dead with one shot" gun in that area? It helped me thin out the heard at the start, but I wish I had kept it for the mega banshee invasion.
I kept yelling first aid into my kinect with no luck, then I'd use it twice in a row when I didn't need it. It was the one time where I mapped a power to my controller.

Well I figured out how to raise my galactic readiness on the 360 version without having live gold.

Play the PS3 version or PC version multiplayer. Apparently its linked across all versions tied to the origin account.

Completed ME3 two hours ago. The series as a whole has been the most satisfying and compelling, interesting and engaging series I've ever played. I didn't want the series to be over, I got too attached to the characters, as nerdy as that may sound. That combined with the amazing soundtrack really gave me a chills, wanting more. But knowing there probably won't be more is not a pleasent feeling :(

There are iOS apps that can increase your 'galactic readiness'. I think maybe something on facebook aswell.

But you'd have to make sure that you have the same origin log in.

I couldn't agree with you more. I am a huge SciFi Fan and with Mass Effect my long time dreams to actually play a space-opera videogame came true. And by the way...if you liked the song in the end credits, i can warmly recommend you to check out the other awsome tracks of the band behind the Mass Effect 1 and ME3 end credit songs, called Faunts

Yeah Faunts is totally great.

I'm taking my sweet time, just arriving at Priority Citadel
II
at like 22 hours. I'm really enjoying it. The only thing that has annoyed me so far is (small character thing relating to choice in previous game)
Not seeing Kelly Chambers, because I didn't have dinner with her in Mass Effect 2. I did everything except that, thinking it would tie into Romance stuff too much. I saved her at the Collectors Base, and feel like that should be enough to warrant seeing her again in 3.
Outside of that I'm really glad they brought back the intense blue color palette, compared to the rusty orange found in ME2. Can't wait to play more.

Also the music that played at the end of Tuchanka gave me chills.

Also a great score. Man I hope Bioware pulls a Microsoft this E3 and announce ME 4 5 and 6 :p
Mass Effect: C-Sec, a Turrian Detective game, solving space crimes on the Citadel, with multiplayer taking place during the First Contact war (Human vs Turrian).

So does ME3 support cloud saves at all? I'm not talking about ME2 imports to ME3. I'm talking about me saving my existing ME3 profile/saved games to the cloud on one console and then accessing that same ME3 profile/saved games from a different console. I already read the FAQ here but I its unclear to me if this only affects ME2 saves stored in the Cloud or if it pertains to ME3 saves as well.

I'm currently trying to access my ME3 profile from the second console but the game doesn't seem to be detecting it. Isn't it supposed to auto sync the cloud save when I launch the game or am I missing some step? I'm only seeing the new game option and there isn't an option in the game that appears to let you change where you want to put saved games.

Thanks (and sorry if I'm being dense)

well, I decided to spoil myself on the ending a bit just to be prepared because I want to play the game as soon as the patch comes out.

I didn't spoil myself fully but I know that
all relays are destroyed and races are wiped out
. If there is more to it, please don't spoil it.

I can understand how soul-crushing it can be especially after we tried so hard during the first three games. It hurts even more since it was out of our control. It's mind-boggling given the fact that the franchise should continue somehow.

but on the other hand it's bold and I sort of admire this. I think it can be some sort of comment on the fragility of existence and stuff like that.

anyway now I'm looking forward to playing the game because no way they would retcon such major change.

but seriously Bioware, wtf? It's space opera and it's
supposed to end well
to some extent. I play your games to feel good and all.

I'm looking forward to seeing you in the Mass Effect 3 OT3 Spoiler Thread. I'm saving this post btw, so you can see how wrong you were.

Just have it be Garrus when he was part of C-Sec before you met him. Then the sequel could be Mass Effect: Archangel. If you need something to get you behind the idea this should do it.

In dire need of save import help:

I want to go PC ME2 - 360 ME3, but the edit/import tutorials don't seem to address people who do not have ME2 on 360 and thus don't have a ME2 save folder structure to drop .xbsav files into...

I've tried doing it manually by creating a folder with the ME2 game id (454108CE) and my Xbox will at least recognize the folder as ME2, but any save data is read as corrupted. I'm pretty sure that it's because I didn't rehash/resign the data in Modio, but I can't because Modio won't recognize the ME2 folder.

I think I can get this to work if I can import someone else's ME2 folder from 360 save.

Can someone provide me with their 360 ME2 save data? Download Modio here: http://www.game-tuts.com/community/modio.php Use it to open up your profile on a usb stick and export the ME2 folder.

I don't have an ME2 disc available, but I'd appreciate any advice.

Yeah Garrus probably makes the most sense as a character to make a spin off game about. (Other than Blasto...)

He's got a kind of middle of the road between paragon/renegade personality, and he spends all his down time before/between games hunting criminals.

More journalistic integrity than most of the industry

I strongly disagree that disliking the ending is equivalent to having journalistic integrity, as that's a matter of taste. Journalistic integrity, in this context, would include the ability for someone writing about the controversy to give a nuanced overview about fans' complaints instead of lazy generalizations (as it would demonstrate that the person writing about the topic bothered to research it).
