So Carswell might genuinely be the only one, interesting.

Yeah, I put Cons getting 320 at the minute based on the initial seats the exit poll said they get and what they've actually got. I don't see how Lib Dems get 10 unless Cornwall comes in strong.

I mean yes, America are very slowly improving social and welfare issues. However, they're also a massive distance behind us to begin with, so that's a pretty weird stance to take.

in a decade at the current pace we'll be pretty close, shrug

plus it'd be nice to live in a country that actually feels like it's progressing rather than regressing

Or they could be so disillusioned with politics that they feel Labour and the Tories are the same in but name?

I'm going to say exactly the same thing people say about the Democrats in America, the two parties blatantly fucking aren't, and the major parties aren't going to care if all you do is forfeit your vote - apathy and cynicism will not save you from a bad government.

Labour and the Conservatives were more different at this election than they have been in literally decades, at least since 1987, so to be honest, if that was why people chose not to vote, those people are morons.

Really interested to see what Alex Salmond does in Westminster.

The next few years are crucial for our future as a union and a country,

Ah, interesting. I knew Nige had issues, didnt realise Reckless did too. Ta.

It's close, but I think Ashcroft polled it and found a lot of people had gone back to Conservative, they were prepared to keep Reckless for a year, but they want the Tories if they're going to have to keep someone for five years.

You're upset with the state of British politics, so you're moving to America?

I mean, have you thought that one through?
His post is accurate. We have a party that's proposing expanded benefits. We're drifting leftward you guys rightward.

Your social safety net is still huge but its weird. I blame it on the fact were becoming less "Anglo" in political style with changing demos. We also have the weird federalism thing that makes living in NY like a different country than Kansas

Clegg's lost, a source close to him has confirmed to the Times.

This election campaign had a number of similarities to NZ's election, and it appears as if the massacre of the left is another one.

Due to a cock-up on my part that means I need to leave my house early and the announcement of these recounts I think I'm going to miss Thanet South and Sheffield Hallam. Fuck's sake.

I get you and have always voted. But I also get why some people wouldn't vote. Do I think it is right not to vote? Nope. But others have different opinions.

Labour get one in, would have to be Edinburgh too.

I didn't expect SNP to get any seats in Edinburgh to be hones,Glasgow, yes (but not the clean sweep). It's been a ridiculously good night for the SNP. Anything over 50 seats is just insanely one sided & unexpected.

I mean, you're right that America is driving leftwards and us rightwards, but it will be a significant amount of time, at least decades, before the two could meet. The US political system is specifically designed to stunt any kind of serious reform, and the Republican party still place a frame on the kind of debates that are held in the US even if they're not serious electoral candidates for the time being. It just seems a very weird statement to say "I'm displeased with the state of egalitarianism in this country, so I'm going to move to a much less egalitarian country".

there's one anglophone country that has actually improved it's social welfare over the last few years;

Are you serious? I'm a Conservative Republican and I can tell you the United States seems like a bad fit for you. Even if Hilary is elected in 2016 by 2024 there will be a Republican President that will make Cameron look like Marx.

On a unrelated note I'm jealous of all you liberals who say you'll move if a Conservative Government is elected. If Hilary is elected in 2016 there is no place for me to go (Not that I'd ever leave just because I don't like my country's politics). The US is the last bastion of true conservatism on earth. There is no other conservative party that I feel would truly represent my views. Likud, the UK Conservative Party, or the Canadian Conservative party comes the closest, but there still a ways away.

The UK Conservative is probably the least rightwing right party in the Anglosphere, Australia and New Zealand would both probably be better bets for you.

The beaten SNP candidate in Edinburgh South is Neil Hay, the man who called supporters of the union "quislings". Should never have been allowed to stand for the party after that.

Mundell might hold on in the borders, it's pretty close from what they're saying on twitter. SNP were ahead until the rural vote started to come in.
