important to add to any non brits that they don't draw the borders themselves, they can only vote in recommendations by an independent panel. The last recommendations, which labour and the libdems voted down a few years ago, were favourable to the tories due to population shift.

Unless they draw one line over all of Scotland. Then we'll know how independent that committee is!

I really don't get this bitterness that exists purely because your party of choice is losing. The people have voted and for better or worse they have voted against your views.

"Everyone who voted in a different way than me is an idiot/selfish...." that's all I've gotten from this affair.

It's a liberal thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the bitterness exists because the tory party has been allowed to get away with mismanaging the economy for five years and lying through their teeth about it the whole time; and their punishment for this massive deception of the british public is another five years in power, giving them a chance to dismantle almost all of the things that the british left wing hold dear and to cement the distortion of british political discourse and ensure continued tory rule into the foreseeable future

this election loss is probably the biggest setback to the british left wing in a generation, and it happened because the tories were allowed to lie for years, completely unchecked

that's why we're bitter.

MP for chatham is conservative still. Excellent, she's done a good job here in the area and happy to see the results so far. Labours top end needs to go and have no fit state to run this country.

UKIP with 12% of the vote!! Over one in ten voters siding with a racist party.

Thankfully only the one seat currently.

I'm being extreme and joking but it's fine if the zero hour contracts were consistent. However they are not. My mother is on a zero hour contract for home help. They will a lot her 5 mins between calls to drive Circa 15 miles and if she is a minute late she gets pay docked. If she says it's not possible to get there in time she doesn't get any hours for 2 weeks.

I'm sorry fella but I'm calling bullshit on this.

No wonder the left is doing so badly if this the general conception.

Exactly. I earn under the UK national average salary of 26k and have voted Conservative as I have more faith in them to get things done than a labour and snp coalition.

My life/lifestyle in the past five years has got better and better so why would I vote against the party that has been in power during that?

The left love democracy as long as people do the "right" thing.

Anything that isn't left is a lie.

Why would you vote cons if you were poor? Serious question I dont know that much, I usually vote emotionally.

You'd be surprised. Often those from lower socio economic groups still vote Conservative (or in this instance UKIP). I'd imagine easily led Sun readers and people of that ilk. Bit like how some of the poorest in the US continue to vote Republican. I think the fear from the threat of immigration and fearmongering regarding the economy, is enough to tide people over in prioritising these things over fairer or more leftist or socialist policies, that would ultimately help them.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

Yeah yeah, because Labour leaving office with a budget deficit of 11% of GDP/£156b is a masterclass of economy management.

I mean, it is during a recession. If you're going to complain about Labour deficits, 2004-7 offers more fruitful territory.

So I've just woke up. I signed off after Nuneaton which pointed to the conservatives outperforming even the exit poll. What are we on track for now???

Do you understand what happens when a global financial crisis hits?

You have to spend.

Of course labour did under regulate the banking sector, but the Tories are hardly going to be tougher tha n labour on that when are they.

This seems incredibly patronising, do you really think your fellow countrypeople are so stupid that if what you said was true, barely anyone else noticed? Are you so cynical that you think that the Conservative party don't actually believe in their plan? (even if it was misguided/wrong/whatever).

i'm not blaming democracy? i'm blaming the tory party for lying and the labour party for not doing anything about it. i don't blame people for believing the tories when the labour party was playing the same tune.

you mean the budget deficit that appeared suddenly in around 2007? i wonder what could have caused that. surely not bailing out collapsed banks.

it's insanely frustrating to still have to be dealing with these mistruths years later, and with so much freely available information about what actually happened to the british economy over the past five years. this is why we're bitter. because the tories were allowed to lie for so long, and now everyone believes in the lie.

am i really so cynical as to believe that the tory party would lie?

you know, i might just be

Even immigrants sometimes tend to vote for the conservatives. My cousin is also a member of a conservative party, which is very ironic when you look at the goals of these parties.

That tends to happen after recessions lol. In fact, historically the rate at which things get back on track and improve after recessions, happens much quicker and more successfully than has been the case under Conservatives, though you could argue that was a result of this recession bring particularly bad. Personally I think it's partly because initially the Tories were too bullish on the austerity front, which greatly slowed down the rate at which things improved.
