Meet the Fantastic Four

Looking forward to this, hope it's not cheesy like the other films.

I love when people get mad at casting before they've even seen anything.

Also this thread is an embarrassment.

I fucking hated the first two Fantastic Four movies. I don't even care that this one is being made. But the amount of whining over messes to the continuity instead of wanting to see a new spin on source material, something brave that takes risks instead of just slavishly sicking to whatever story is absolutely mad to me. Why wouldn't you want to see something new with these characters? Do you think they should stop making the comics and just re-release issues now? There are no new takes to be made on this material?

As for the race thing who gives a fuck? He might be adopted, he might share a parent, they might not explain the fucking thing at all. If Michael B Jordan is the right part for the role, then who gives a fuck whether he's black, blue, a dinosaur or dead?

Would have loved to see Marvel announce this casting and everyone go "well I trust marvel, I have faith this'll work". That may be so, that the film won't work because of many things, but not when giving the cast ac chance is some utterly dumb shit when all have proved themselves to be actors elsewhere.

Making Johnny black but keeping Sue white is contrived as fuck. If they wanted to show some balls and appeal to a minority, they should've made Reed black. Or make both Storm siblings black! But dont half ass it. Johnny and Sue being siblings is an intrinsic part of their characters, so they better explain something.

don't have any faith in this when the previous FF looked much better suited for their roles, and those movies were turds. Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm is the worst offender. Seriously?

Well I guess I have to see this now that Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan are in it. The black/white thing's not a big deal to me, but I'm not really attached to the characters at all and I like both of the actors. They should just pull a Louie and not address it at all to maximize the confusion/outrage.

I like how aggressively unflattering those four pictures are.

Yup, it's a fucking cop out and Reed Richards and Benn are too young too. I hope Dr Doom is young too, because it's going to be hilarious. And like you said, if they had any balls they would either make Reed black or both Sue and Johny black, but no....

Balls would've been making the smartest dude in the MU a black dude married to a white woman. With Idris as the lead.

My white aunt married a black guy. They had two daughters. Her youngest in turn has had two daughters with a white guy. Daughter A is as dark as her mother and has curly hair. Daughter B is very light skinned, with blonde hair and blue eyes. They look like sisters with different skin tones, hair and eye colors.

I'm not excited for the movie, I don't even know where they're going with the plot, but there's nothing about Sue and Johnny being sis and bro that's implausible. Genetics are like that.

If they were going to make a character black it should have been Mr. Fantastic. It's less to explain plus it also opens up the option to have Franklin/Val Richards be interracial kids.

Either way I would rather Marvel have the license back.

Lol at everyone saying Marvel needs the rights back. So what? They can punch it into their generic movie machine and churn out sad, predictable shit like Thor 2 and Iron Man 3? Rofl. I'd rather take Fox experiments a million times over than the shit mill that is Marvel Studios.
If Marvel is going Cosmic, FF are very much needed to keep the films close to the original material. Reed Richards is an integral part of the Cosmic universe.

Also, IM3 was everything but predictable.

Dear god I wish they'd just sold the rights back to Marvel so we could have Stark, Pym, Banner, Richards conversations of scientific import.

Instead we'll get whatever this clusterfuck will spew out. If you clearly hate the source material so fucking much, make something else entirely. Christ.

Shouldn't the Thing be Latino or Asian?

Well, they still can get it right. Asian seems like a good fit for Dr. Doom. Silver Surfer can be the Latino guy.

I dig this casting. Teller, Jordan, Bell, and Mara are all favorites.

Based on the comic “The Ultimate Fantastic Four,” the contemporary update will focus on the characters as young men and women.

I thought so. I guess this means I'll have to read UFF.

Also, Millarw$rld.

Nah , this isnt about bravery, its about Fox losing a license , that is why people are skeptical because properties they were PERFECTLY happy shitting on for smedium dollars were about to go back to a studio and probably make them far more than they did. MBJ is not the issue , I agree who cares what J.Storm is cast as, because lets outline all the reasons to make this film. Its clear "KEEP THE RIGHTS TO FF4 PROPERTY" is primary. The ploy is working though, lets concentrate on the casting. Fuck the casting FOX having the property if this movie is made is the problem.

The only hope for this would be a First Class take on it set in the 60s during the space race, otherwise I hope it bombs. Too many villains tied up with the FF that could be put to great use in the MCU.

What is the fucking point in doint a shit movie that is going to bomb hard just to keep the license? Just give it to Marvel so we can have a competent Avengers with the best villains already.

Personally, I won't be seeing this movie until Latinos get a proper representation. Where's the love, FOX Execs?

I don't understand why people aren't giving Josh Trank the benefit of the doubt. Talented writer/director and 4 very, very good actors. Don't write this off yet.

He's had one movie and it didn't exactly blow most people away. It's not hard to understand.

Not to mention how quickly they have to get the movie out, the fact that it's based on the Ultimate line and the fact that the studio dropped two fantastic turds on us already. There's not much reason for hope.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I just don't like changing the ethnicity of a character just for the sake of having a black guy in the movie.

It would be the same in the other direction. I also wouldn't want Falcon, Black Panther, Luke Cage or other changed to white guys.

I was cool with Nick Fury, because well the Ultimate Universe was a fresh start so they could do what they want, I also would be cool if a new Spider-man movie would come out with Miles Morales being the lead role. And I am still mad that the Green Lantern movie was not about John.

But changing a character that was never black in the source material with Susan as white sister just strikes me as odd... I mean you could have hired a afro-american for Silver Surfer or other roles .. hell even The Thing could have a black actor.

It just feels so awkward, it is the same with them changing Galactus from a spacegiant to a fucking cloud, I just don't like those weird drift aways from the source material.

Also taking the UFF as source could end really badly, since it was awful.

Their principal is called Dr Victor Vondome, but the kids call him Von Doom....

No one had a problem with Alba and Evans being siblings.

I don't really give a shit about Johnny being black, what i give a shit about is FOX still holding the rights and the film apparently being based on that steaming turd of a comic Ultimate Fantastic Four.

Can't wait to see set pics of Doom goat.

At the very least, it's a talented group of young actors. I'm gonna see what direction they're going with before I make any judgements. It's not like it can be any worse than the last two FF movies

its a racist opinion.

also racist.

"...but some of my best friends are black"

But changing a character that was never black in the source material with Susan as white sister just strikes me as odd...

actual twins:

use black actors for the characters with covered skin? eeshh.

It just feels so awkward, it is the same with them changing Galactus from a spacegiant to a fucking cloud, ...
matter-ist.

sorry for singling you out in a thread of similar posts. i know what youre getting at, but its all apparently racist.

Er... isn't the Human Torch kind of the dumb, athletic-type, or was that just in the previous films? Yeah, let's make that guy black and not the super-smart leader... smh.

It started in 1989 with Batman
Batman didn't start any boom. They just made Batman movies that people liked. Hardly anyone followed suit, even DC didn't follow up with anything more then more Batman movies (Edit: and I guess that Steel movie that I'm glad I didn't know existed until now.). Spider-Man is when studios really started to take comic book movies and run with them.

I think you'll find there has been a steady stream of hero movies, but the recent massive wave I think started with XMen.
