Meet the Fantastic Four

Thought MBJ was pretty great in chronicle, he has tons of charm. This definitely isn't just done to appeal to minorities

Hmm. I liked Jordan and Mara. Not sure about Bell, but I guess it depends on how they're dressing up the Thing. Can't stand Miles Teller but Reed is supposed to be the unlikeable one anyway so I guess it fits.

The biggest question mark for me is Trank. I can believe that Fox wants to take this property more seriously than last time, but I didn't like Chronicle at all so I don't know what to expect from Trank directing this.

lol @ the utter confusion in this thread over Mara and Jordan playing siblings.

Er... isn't the Human Torch kind of the dumb, athletic-type, or was that just in the previous films? Yeah, let's make that guy black and not the super-smart leader... smh.

He's not really dumb, just bro-y. And it's basically the same character Jordan played in FNL.

I tried really, really hard to like the first 2 Fantastic Four films.

That pic in the OP makes it really hard for me to have even an ounce of hype for this.

I wouldn't really call Johnny "dumb". Besides, if what I've heard about Ultimate Reed is true, you'd HATE it if they made him black.

Don't remember any backlash when Jessica Alba was Sue Storm who was basically mexican...
I remember everyone calling it a bad choice then too. Especially when they tried to give her blond hair and blue eyes. She looked awful.

The only reason people still don't bring it up is because those movies were so bad that Alba being a bad casting choice was one on a very long list of problems and people just recognize that they're garbage and move on.

If this is true then I shall accept the L, especially since I wasn't on the internet that much back then because where I lived we could only use struggle dial up that took like 1 hr 22 mins to load up a myspace page.

People didn't like how young she was either (23).

I think you'll find there has been a steady stream of hero movies, but the recent massive wave I think started with XMen.

True. You could go from Batman all the way to Batman & Robin, then jump to the Blade-series, via X-Men to arrive at Spiderman 2002.

But I agree with you that the current wave indeed started with X-Men.

I don't understand why they didn't just cast a black Sue Storm if they were going to cast a black Johnny Storm. Casting Kate Mara as Sue makes Jordan's casting look like trolling for controversy.

Jamie Bell does not like Grimm in any shape or form. Even before Grimm got turned into The Thing, Grimm was pretty stacked. And if there's one thing Bell ain't, it's stacked.

Not wondering about the black human torch, but wondering how they'll play off the fact Johnny and Sue are supposed to be brother and sister? Maybe adopted like in that 90210 show?

But I'm not sure about this casting myself. Thought Chiklis was cast pretty well, as was Julian McMahon the past films. Chris Evans did bring some humor to the role. Can't wait to see how it plays out though.

I agree that Chiklis was a good fit for Ben, but McMahon really lacked charisma or presence or intensity. Doom is a comic book icon, and his interpretation of him was lackluster at best.

It's only controversial to dumb people

But yeah, Hollywood casting isn't exactly known for being well though-out.

The non-Marvel Marvel universe movies are pretty much side chicks at this point

Fox is gambling big here. They've got nothing to lose. They are rebooting a property they fucked up to begin with. Damaged it further with a sequel. Now they are throwing in a casting decision(s) that are desperate to say the least. Instead of getting press that will be positive by say announcing a plot direction to get people excited; they are instead trying to generate hype by stunt casting.

If it takes great, Fox Wins! If it doesn't Fox loses a property they no longer want after 3 failed attempts.

Fox wins again because then the property reverts back to Marvel. Damaged in the public eye. Another reboot even done properly by the people that care might not generate excitement.

Hmm... All right. I guess they just played that up in the original movies then.

Let's cast the black actor as the character we get to cover up in flames. SMH.

Eh, aside from Reed Richards, all of the Fantastic Four are sort of hidden, with Susan Storm being able to become invisible. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, if I were making this movie, I'd probably make Ben black. I would then compare and contrast his treatment by certain groups and individuals pre- and post-transformation. It wouldn't have to be preachy about it, but it'd certainly be a new take on the character and allow for some social commentary to boot.

Let me get this straight.

This guy is supposed to portray the smartest person on Earth.

I so want the rights of these characters to come back to Marvel, Fox can't keep doing movies if they keep bombing right?
As long as they make them they can keep bombing over and over. It doesn't matter if they're good. The license only runs out when they fail to put out a product in a certain amount of time.

Her dad and grandpa were pretty much mexican though to my knowledge.

AFAIK she once did an interview in which she stated that she feels she is american and doesn't have a lot of affection with her 'roots'. However in a more recent interview she did state she was proud to be latina.

I feel like changing a characters race, just to change is pretty dump and just shock tactics. There are plenty of characters of color that you don't have to go reverse white washing.

But Fox is going to Fox.

I do remember plenty of bitching when Alba was cast as Sue. The thing is (HAHA), comic-book movies were a lot smaller back then. I'm sure there things would be noiser these days.

That said, brunette Alba is superior Alba.

Into the blue Alba is best Alba

(dunno if the gif from the movie would be NSFW)

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I just don't like changing the ethnicity of a character just for the sake of having a black guy in the movie.

It would be the same in the other direction. I also wouldn't want Falcon, Black Panther, Luke Cage or other changed to white guys.

I was cool with Nick Fury, because well the Ultimate Universe was a fresh start so they could do what they want, I also would be cool if a new Spider-man movie would come out with Miles Morales being the lead role. And I am still mad that the Green Lantern movie was not about John.

But changing a character that was never black in the source material with Susan as white sister just strikes me as odd... I mean you could have hired a afro-american for Silver Surfer or other roles .. hell even The Thing could have a black actor.

It just feels so awkward, it is the same with them changing Galactus from a spacegiant to a fucking cloud, I just don't like those weird drift aways from the source material.

Also taking the UFF as source could end really badly, since it was awful.

Who said that's why they hired MBJ? Why isn't he just the best actor for the script that was written?

Well, releasing movies that keep bombing out of spite seems like a bad business decision.

Evan Rachel Wood would be an amazing sue storm!

Why do you do that to me, man? I now want that to happen :(

Anyway, I really, really liked MBJ when I watched Chronicle. Kate Mara is awesome too, so that's it, it doesn't have to be the worst thing ever... I hope.

They should have gotten Chris Evans for Human Torch again, but wearing his Captain America suit all the time, then when people points out the he is wearing Cap's suit he'll be like: "I Don't know what are you talking about".
I'll pay top dollars for that movie.
