This unit has always tracked well on Amazon, but it's misleading.

Meta Quest isn't available at most retailers, so these are always going to be inflated.

For example, if I look at my local GameStop, there's nothing within 100 miles of me. I can't even get it shipped to my house from Gamestop.

There are 2 units available at my local Walmart. There are 3 at my local Target.

It's definitely something that favors online sales.

That's what people said when it was announced that quest 2 was outselling both xbox consoles a couple years ago. People were were mentioning that the online success wasn't meaningful then.

People are just going to have to accept that it can and has sold well before.

It’s in Best Buy, Walmart and many other electronics stores. Doesn’t really mean much if it isn’t in GameStop.

I'm not saying it isn't selling. I'm just saying, I'd be careful of using Amazon charting as a 1:1 analogy for it's overall sales.

Amazon can be a decent tool to see what's going on in the market, especially in flashes, but I think there are major limitations to it as well.

If you keep up with Aamzon and then compare it to Circana charts, it's never 1:1.

When someone responds before finishing reading a comment...

It's not sold in major quantities at brick and mortar retailers. I didn't say it wasn't there at all.

Sorry but the 'Roy' controller rumors are all we are getting out of Deckard. That thing is a mystery.
Yeah, this is what I am waiting for. I am not going to get ZuchVR and Valve seems to be the only potentially decent alternative in the near future. Yeah, there are some Chinese alternatives coming, but I don’t want ThoughtsOfXiVR either.

Everyone else is going AR glasses route it seems because they see it more profitable long term.

Yes I'd never use amazon as some overall sales chart either, I was making another point.

I got a Quest 3s a couple of weeks ago. I ditched my projector and my other displays for it after using it for a day or two.

This is honestly some sci fi level bullshit, feels like Minority Report and SAO came to life. Laying in my bed, having 3 virtual screens in front of me. as large or small as I want them, anywhere I want them. It's tough to explain this experience really. It's a bit like with touch controls for smartphones, or 3d graphics for vidya - you kinda need to experience it yourself.

I wasn't nearly as impressed by any of the VR Games (RE4, Metro, Beat Saber) as I am by the general computing abilities. Obviously it still has quite a way to go (Passthrough especially needs to improve) and there's lots of setup and hoops to jump through in order to set it up like that, but that's exactly what being an early adopter is like. Flat displays honestly feel primitive to me now :D

3s is just a quest 2.
3 is legit, I got one for my dad and he plays population one all the time.

Anyway - quest vr is a casual city. It's a perfect gift for your dad or kids. filthy casuals that is.
For me there are no real games on this that I would prefer to play in vr rather than on nice big oled tv with hdr

I'm looking to buy a Quest 3 but it's a bit too expensive on amazon.it. 550 euro and 450 euro for the 512GB and 128GB respectively. I would instantly buy a used unit for 350... If I could find one.

Do you mean this only if you plan to play standalone?
I thought it was good enough if you plan to use it together with a good PC.

I doubt the Deckard would be priced competitively against the Quest 3, much less the 3S. I don't think anyone can really compete against Meta, except Nintendo. If their Switch 2 was "triple-hybrid" and could be slotted into a VR headset shell (Like the Pimax Portal) and required every game to have all three modes, VR gaming could finally blow up.

I am ok with it being say $1K or so. But yes, it’s not going to be mass market like the Quest.

Meta is willing to lose $tens of billions every year. No normal company can afford that.

I just grabbed a 3S on Amazon since it came with a $75 gift card.

So far it seems almost identical to the Quest 2, only with a noticeably higher internal resolution, and much better pass through. Still, I haven’t played any Q3 exclusive games yet.

And since it’s a 3S, I’ve got lower resolution screens and fresnel lenses, so the actual headset seems pretty similar to the Quest 2. The resolution doesn’t bother me in-game, but it’d be nice to have those pancake lenses and a wide FOV. But I also don’t want to spend $500 on a Quest 3 just for that.

VR/AR is going to take over gaming. I know everyone on this forum doesnt want that, but it's going to happen.
It's not going to happen overnight, but neither computers, the internet, nor the smartphone revolution did.

And then we can be the ones who brag: "We were here since the beginning!"

I think VR can be successful without it needing to take over regular gaming. There's just no scenario where that would happen imo. They can coexist fine.

Throw away Christmas present . Happens every year.

That's one long ass fad. Quest's been doing gangbusters at Christmas really since the Quest 1, and certainly the Quest 2, which is like 5+ years at this point. They're genuinely cool products with some awesome experiences, but unfortunately developer/publisher talent generally has no interest in the platform, which leads to little consumer interest in the storefront of buying games, which leads to the incredibly sparse releases doing mediocre at best, with the cycle repeating's a positive feedback loop.

I've seen the things at walmarts and targets all over in my city. Even got my son one from Microcenter who has 25+ of the things in store.
