Meta Quest 3S (128GB) & Quest 3 (512GB) are the best selling hardwares in Video Games category on Amazon US right now (ahead of home consoles)

Fuckin hell... These things are a bargain. I got a Quest 3s for my kid at Christmas for 400 Canadian. Came with the Batman game. (Which is REALLY good!)

Then I clicked on someones referral code. Got $70 in my meta account.

Then I shared my referral link on reddit and twitter... got another $140 in Meta credit.... in like 3 hours?

So I can basically buy every VR game worth a shit just in free Meta money.
If you need help with what to pick, a bunch of us here can point you in the fun direction.

And just so you know, it's super easy to clear the web browser history. 😉

If you buy one of these, in addition to the officially available games, do yourself a favor and get as many games with Team Beef mods available as you can. They work completely stand-alone on the headset and installing them is extremely easy. I grabbed them all now that they're on sale on Steam (in addition to pirating Prey, which is delisted), and for a few bucks I got 20 or so games, which were already exceptional on their own, fully playable in VR.

… and another $70 Meta referral rolled in.

Like what the hell..? They are giving Meta money out like crazy. No wonder the VR side of Meta is hemorrhaging money.

Hey man, I got my daughter a Quest 3 for Christmas, is there any way I can get in on that code? I wanna get my daughter more stuff for her headset, but Christmas hit me hard lol, so if there's anyway to save, then I'm all about it. She can't stop playing that damn Job Simulator game lol.

Yeah toss that this way. lol My daughter is asking me for all these Meta 3 games.

Sent you guys a message.

I dont wanna spam my referral on here.. but for anyone looking for a referral link just head over to https://www.reddit.com/r/MetaReferrals/

It's really easy to do. Just a heads up… if you've already set up your quest, no worries. You just have to do a factory reset and you will still get the Meta bucks. Most of the games back up to the cloud too, so you shouldn't lose much.

The very generous referrals are clearly to establish a loyal userbase.

Without that, they'd fail once Google gets into the market (especially as Quest OS is just Android at the end of the day - just somewhat gimped).

Just look at Windows Phone for what happens if you don't build up a loyal userbase.

Meta is drowning in money despite Zuck trying to burn it as fast as he can lol

They made record profit of $15 billion last quarter

Meta is also a major company, and they've already seen off Google's initial efforts to get in on the space.
Google doesn't really have any major advantages over Meta anymore, aside from - perhaps - the ability to bring in your Google Play Android apps to VR, but that's not a major draw.

At this point, Google and Samsung will be the underdogs when they jump in.

I have found that the 128GB works really well for a VR headset. The games are not really big yet. So, far I have not had to uninstall anything.

Really, I wish they gave the option with the Meta games to run them off the pc.

Yes... Meta is a cash machine.
Zuck is an animal.

Meta definitely has the VR market by the throat.

I'm not mad, but VR ain't it for me. It quickens the blood but it isn't as versatile as pancake gaming and the games just aren't there yet. The headset itself is an issue. VR needs a way to be played casually.

When Nintendo can put out a better VR headset than any VR headset available today that fits in a pair of glasses for today's equivalent of 300 dollars that plays full sized Mario and Zelda games developed by Nintendo, we will be ready.

What yall think? 10 to 20 years for this thing to be competitive?

Can you dope this thing? Like, if I have bad eyesight, is there a slider for that or do I still need to wear my glasses? Wearing glasses with a headset never was a valid solution to me.

Good. They're doing an amazing job so far.

I'd agree that they seem to be pushing it better than anyone.

Honestly.. I think only a founder led company would have the balls to spend this much money on this endeavor. Praise to Zuck.

I always find the hate for Facebook/meta hilarious. If you own any smart device, this company should be the least of your worries.

IMO, for Nintendo (and possibly for Meta) the key will be lightening the headset moreso than shrinking its size. Putting the battery in a puck a la the Apple headset would help. Putting most of the hardware (everything but the instantaneous eye and hand-tracking) into the puck would be better.

If the current VR components become common and cheap enough, then I could see Nintendo putting out a dummy headset and harness for not too much money. Just strap your Switch 3 to your chest and plug the lightweight headset in, and, presto, you have a passable VR setup.

Of course, by the time we get to Switch 3, I could see them going all in on streaming/casting, like the Wii U on steroids. And if the default hardware is a portable casting puck plus two joycon and a dummy screen, an optional lightweight VR headset would be easy enough to include as an option.

I think the world will only really take notice with VR is when either a Nintendo or PlayStation platform launches with VR and is bundled with every console.

So which headset should I get ? Quest 3 or 3S? When is a new one coming? Can I play Alyx without having a gaming PC?

No one knows about Quest 4.

if you really want the best clarity for under $600, get Quest 3. It's a big jump over any other option at that price point.

Quest 3s is good though and a great deal at its price point for under $400. Arguably a better value if clarity isn't a massive deal to you.

Alyx only runs on PC, but in all fairness, it'll run well on an ancient 1060 6gb.

Apparently they are still working on the brick fix.
It seems that those bricked by factory reset are totally unresponsive and probably cannot be fixed at home. Reportedly, Meta has been offering refurbished Quests as replacement - some for free, some for $150.

It does suck the more 3s were sold than 3. The pancake lenses are the real fucking deal.
I couldn't ignore getting one for $225 new on Amazon. As much as I'd prefer the pancakes, the deal was too good.

That new Batman game on the Quest 3 is sick. Loving that Arizona Sunshine 2 and a few others. Quest 3 is a fantastic device!

The pancake lenses does make a dramatic difference., Quest 2 to Quest 3 is like going from SD TO HD

My Quest 3 Recommends:

For exercise:
Beat Saber- with custom songs
Audio Trip- with custom songs
Synth Riders - with custom songs
Les Mills body workout
Thrill of the fight (was breathing so hard between rounds I thought I was having a heart attack)
Thrill of the fight 2 (online vr fighting is finally here)

For Fun:
Batman: Arkham Shadow
Arizona Sunshing 1 or 2 or remastered
Super Hot
Vendetta Forever (like super hot sequel)
Zero Caliber Reloaded
Ultrawings 2
Walkabout Mini Golf
Zombieland: headshot fever
Resident Evil 4 (the best version on any platform)
Real VR Fishing (best vr graphics ever?)
In death: unchained
Population One (fortnite in VR)
Robo recall: unplugged
so many more

For entertainment:
Wonder: (google maps in vr and can see the world)
BigScreen (watch movies with other people

Had a Rift CV1 that got stolen while I was at work, always wanted to jump back into VR and I think the Quest 3 will do the job. A friend brought one and he seems very happy with it except with DCS which is super blurry apparently. Other than that he is having a blast.

Might be my gift from me to me for my birthday in April :D

How could you recommend so many games and not have Pistol Whip?

Also I suggest grabbing Skybox VR as your media player. It can stream Youtube VR but it has no ads. Youtube VR without ads.

The Quest 3 is pretty damn good. The strap that comes with it is crap. Replace it with a load balanced strap.

I still need to play a bunch of games. I got the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge game, Batman, and Assassin's Creed.

I also need to do The 7th Guest and Half Life: Alyx.

Some Quest games are crossbuy with their PC versions on the PC Meta Store.

Or be the console itself, like the Quest is. Imagine if the Nintendo Switch 2 came out with a headset where you slotted the screen in and used the split joycons as VR controllers.

Apparently the Valve Deckard is going to be a standalone PCVR headset which will also be able to play flatscreen games like a Steam Deck.

Call me a bootlicker but I fucking love my quest 3 and that is very much thanks to Zuck. VR would be so far behind were it is today without Facebook buying Oculus. Mark and company have been great stewards of this hobby.

I feel conflicted about this statement. Because while it's very true that VR is much more successful from an adoption / business perspective, which is actually necessary to keep it from dying, I can't help but feel that the progression of the hardware and the general experience across most games has stagnated in terms of approach true VR. Quest 3 games are mostly corny, glorified mobile games with cartoonish graphics, and there doesn't seem to be anyone really pushing hard for hardware progression the same way oculus was in the beginning.

As a PCVR/PSVR2 owner, I've been blown away by Quest 3. However, there is a stark contrast. Games like Asgard's Wrath 2, Batman, Metro, and the most recent Ghost Town look and feel like they're running on lower spec PCVR, which is incredible. While most of the other games are average to trash looking, but the potential is there and we're seeing it more and more.

If anything, the last year has really accelerated what people that was possible.

there definitely potential but im not seeing it realized is my point. i guess im just too interested in VR approaching what I call "true" VR, not even from a fully tactile, sensory experience, but just even through vision. right now when you play the average "VR" game, i s your brain convinced you're in reality or are you fully aware you are playing a silly game?

hard to believe, but it's been almost a full decade since CV1. to me, it's still basically glorified viewfinder stage and meta seems perfectly fine with it. that's what bothers me.

It is being realized. Batman just came out and its literally a full fledged Arkham game in VR. The only thing that rivals it is Alyx imo. I actually prefer many things about Batman over Alyx, specifically the controls and movement. Way more fluid. It's the real deal and Quest's Mario. Ghost Town came out 3 days ago and its the best looking mobile game I've ever seen in my life. The tech has only been around a year with Quest 3. Asgard's Wrath 2 is a 90 hour open world RPG. I mean, what else can we expect, even PCVR didn't get that game. I'd say we already have more full AAA games than devices of the past with more time on the shelf. It's pretty incredible to even have those options this early, and more coming.

I'd say 90% of gamers have no idea Quest has options like this.

I still play it weekly.

not so much about meta but shit like this frustrates me, VR in flight simulator 2024 on a 5090 and running like shit, if only developers with the resources at hand like MS actually cared about VR they truly could take it to the next level, possibly eclipsing that "true VR" barrier

Quest 3 games are mostly corny, glorified mobile games with cartoonish graphics, and there doesn't seem to be anyone really pushing hard for hardware progression the same way oculus was in the beginning.

Most PCVR games were also relatively simple in terms of visuals.
Meta's push to standardize pancake lenses in the Quest 3 and improve pass through also counts as pushing hardware improvement.

The truth is that mass market PCVR adoption is so slow that if the Quest line didn't exist, we'd have the same type of low budget games on PCVR. Nobody can justify AAA development budgets on such a niche userbase.

We have this same thread every year. 😵‍💫 then by the end of the year we see this .,,

VR is not main stream and will not be mainstream anytime soon. VR is a chore. It's too limited, it's not relaxing. Most people hate it over traditional gaming.

On Amazon. They just be buying VR to complement their Switch 2 pre-orders. Do pre-orders count as hardware sales? I'm guessing no, so mebbe the wind's getting sucked out of the 240 watt monsters.

for all of y'all that whine about this gen being iterative and 'not exciting' from a hardware perspective, you really need to try the quest.

The jump to VR is a big as the jump to dual-analog in terms of gameplay and player control
