I actually agree with that opening post. Also with the Anakin/Darth Vader thing. Also "Solid" in Metal Gear Solid stands for the step to 3D graphics, nothing to do with Solid Snake.

I agree with you. My first Foxhound shirt had "Metal Gear Solid written at the bottom.. I still loved it, but it definitely took away from it.

That's a bit of a misconception. While it's true that the step up to 3D graphics was one of the reasons behind the title, they obviously wouldn't have thought to call it "Solid" rather than something like "Metal Gear 3D" if it weren't for the play on words in reference to the Solid Snake character as the protagonist.

There's a Snake Soup article that has some quotes from Kojima which backs me up on this:

It's less that it isn't named after Solid Snake and more like him being the original protagonist isn't the only meaning behind the title, which is why Kojima continued to use SOLID in games even that don't star Solid Snake.
